YouTube videos as sources
You recently assessed my article Krasnogorsk (camera), which I greatly appreciate, but you pointed out that I used YouTube videos as sources rather than external links. My quandary is a lack of any available literature or documentation on the topics covered in the videos. In the places where I used those videos as sources, they are the only available materials for citing the technical content about those models of camera.
What suggestions do you have? I chose the video content I did because it visually confirms the technical details I wanted to include. Does that material simply need to be removed, since there is not a better source at the present? Acetate K3 (talk) 17:48, 5 April 2026 (UTC)
- I believe you should move the videos to the External links section. It will be okay to leave the sentences without a source for now while you try to find another source, check out the Wikipedia Library. Ktkvtsh (talk) 18:24, 5 April 2026 (UTC)
- I believe, from what I've read, the source could be a YouTube video in very specific cases. Unfortunately, the videos come from independent creators and we have no way of proving what they are saying is true. Ktkvtsh (talk) 18:26, 5 April 2026 (UTC)
- @Acetate K3, read through Wikipedia:Video links. It may say you can end up using the video links. I'd say you choose whether to use them or not. If another user mentions it or removes them from the article, so be it.
- Sorry for the multiple messages. Ktkvtsh (talk) 18:27, 5 April 2026 (UTC)
- It's a tricky area where I have knowledge that what the are saying is true, but their breakdown of the cameras in the videos are really the best sources of information on these very rare cameras. It's a tricky spot, I feel. Thank you for your thoughts. And no worries about the multiple messages. Acetate K3 (talk) 18:47, 5 April 2026 (UTC)
