Oley Dibba-Wadda

Was draftified with a very thin consensus three weeks ago. One commented that the article wasn't notable whereas its the person who has to be notable. I have moved the article back into the main space and added lots of refs that were readily available (e.g. on de:wiki) to confirm the notability. Maybe a re-posting could have been considered? Victuallers (talk) 13:47, 28 September 2025 (UTC)

@Victuallers: Hello, consensus was clear there, with a quorum of three participants advocating against keeping the article in mainspace at that time, so re-listing wouldn't have been prudent, especially since AfD participation has been low as of late. The way you restored it and added several sources is what the community encourages with this sort of AfD result; this is the draftification process working as intended. Thank you for rescuing this article. Left guide (talk) 15:36, 28 September 2025 (UTC)

Re: contentious topics

Thank you for the heads-up re: Israel-Palestinian conflict. I am one of Wikipedia’s 10,000 most active editors of all time in my first decade of editing but since 2015 I have only edited the encyclopedia in an IP-anonymous state. Please help me with this nom. Thank you 85.131.184.138 (talk) 07:06, 9 October 2025 (UTC)

Hello, I do not know why I am being notified of this since I had no involvement in that situation. I believe you intended to notify @The Kip: (courtesy ping) who made this arbitration enforcement action. You may attempt to briefly ask them to consider self-reverting and filing a procedural nomination on your behalf, but it's entirely up to them; if they decline I'm afraid you're out of luck, since IP addresses don't have standing in ARBPIA (Arab-Israeli conflict) and aren't really supposed to be engaging in discussion for this topic area. If you have an account that's extended-confirmed and not blocked or under other relevant sanctions, you can log in and make the nomination yourself. Left guide (talk) 07:18, 9 October 2025 (UTC)
Already done. Thanks again for your help. 85.131.184.138 (talk) 07:43, 9 October 2025 (UTC)

Welcome to New Pages Patrol

Hi Left guide, I just wanted to let you know that I have added the new page reviewer user right to your account. "Elisha Taylor Baker" listed at Redirects for discussion

The redirect Elisha Taylor Baker has been listed at redirects for discussion to determine whether its use and function meets the redirect guidelines. Anyone, including you, is welcome to comment on this redirect at Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2025 October 12 § Elisha Taylor Baker until a consensus is reached. GreenLipstickLesbian💌🦋 17:30, 12 October 2025 (UTC)

This concerns this edit Special:Diff/1243056949; sorry if you'd prefer that I just undid your bold redirect, but I've seen too many NPRs accuse people who undo (imo) nonsensical redirects/tags as being disruptive or promotional that I just take these to RfD automatically. Also, I get this was a while ago and you were probably cleaning up the old Greg Henderson articles (and this seemed easier than AfD?), but as a reader of Wikipedia, redirects like this always confused me before I figured out how to access their page history; it's not intuitive, it's just frustrating. At least if the page is a redlink I get told that Wikipedia doesn't have an article on the subject, you know? GreenLipstickLesbian💌🦋 17:46, 12 October 2025 (UTC)
I left a comment at Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2025 October 12#Elisha Taylor Baker. I think this should go to AfD, he's not notable per GNG nor NARTIST, sources consist of 2 databases and 2 connected non-independent sources. Netherzone (talk) 17:57, 12 October 2025 (UTC)
Also wanted to say that a better redirect target is Centennial (pilot boat) than Marine art, where he is not mentioned at all. Netherzone (talk) 18:54, 12 October 2025 (UTC)
Oh, disagree! There's no information in that article about him, the sources don't discuss him in the context of that painting at all, and my reader self would still be much more frustrated by the Wikipedia software hard-sending me to that page than I would by it giving me the search results. I admit I don't quite get all of RfD's insider baseball rules (where the plausible typo deletion criteria is called "implausible typos"?), but I can't see an AfD agreeing to preserve an article some participants view as promo garbage solely because the page creator added an picture taken/drawn by the entity to a different article. GreenLipstickLesbian💌🦋 19:43, 12 October 2025 (UTC)
Just trying to offer an alternative as a helpful suggestion (maybe not so helpful? :). I am fine with whatever happens to this article. I'm exhausted from what was a massive clean up and not am really interested in spending my time jumping back in. Please do as the community wishes. Netherzone (talk) 20:04, 12 October 2025 (UTC)
@GreenLipstickLesbian: Hi, thank you for the editorial courtesy extended and the additional explanation. Yes, this was part of a cleanup spree of that user's article creations I did quite a while ago that I don't have much interest in being involved in these days. In hindsight, it's not an excellent redirect target. Since you and Netherzone are both in agreement to restore and send to AfD (which is also an option I am open to), I am going to speedy procedurally close the RfD to do that. I really don't have much of an opinion on the exact fate of this page, other than I'm doubtful it meets notability guidelines for a standalone article. Regards, Left guide (talk) 05:31, 13 October 2025 (UTC)

Hello! Voting in the 2025 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 1 December 2025. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2025 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:58, 18 November 2025 (UTC)

Interpreting close

Hi, could you clarify what you meant by this close here? I'm a bit confused since the article was deleted even though you closed the discussion as a soft redirect. (Should I recreate it as a soft redirect, or no?) – Closed Limelike Curves (talk) 01:47, 18 November 2025 (UTC)

@Closed Limelike Curves: Hi there, what the close means is that I read the discussion as having no consensus between deletion or Wiktionary soft redirect for the Bnuuy page. Since there's very minimal support for keeping, our WP:NCRET guide section essentially advises closers to change the page to the prevailing non-deletion outcome, which in this case was the Wiktionary soft redirect. Yes, this title was previously deleted in a recent RfD, recreated by you, and then nominated for RfD by another editor, so it seemed to be fair game for other outcomes. A Wiktionary soft redirect works a little different than a normal redirect in that a reader has to click on the small blue button in the middle of the {{Wiktionary redirect}} template to reach the Wiktionary entry, that's how the soft redirect works. As to the question in parentheses, I do not know how it can be recreated as a soft redirect since it already is a soft redirect. If there's something missing here, please do clarify. Left guide (talk) 02:38, 18 November 2025 (UTC)

Your draft article, Draft:Uprights

Hello, Left guide. This message concerns the Articles for Creation submission or draft page you started, "Uprights".

Drafts that go unedited for six months are eligible for deletion, in accordance with our draftspace policy, and this one has been nominated for deletion. If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply edit the submission, and remove the {{db-afc}}, {{db-draft}}, or {{db-g13}} code.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you read this, you can request its undeletion. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the draft so you can continue to work on it.

Draft Reviewal

Can you please review Draft:50-50 club and see if anything needs correction. Wishing you all the best and a happy Thanksgiving. Dafootballguy (talk) 03:36, 28 November 2025 (UTC)

@Dafootballguy: Hi, I'd suggest looking over WP:NOPAGE to decide if this material really needs to have a separate article or can simply be incorporated into Shohei Ohtani, and WP:GNG to see if it meets our notability guideline. I have my doubts about this topic, but if you still believe the article should be published, you are free to move it directly into mainspace yourself (after which it may be subject to a deletion discussion), submit the draft for an independent reviewer to decide using {{AfC submission}}, or discuss with baseball editors at WT:MLB. Administrator Elections - Candidate Instructions

Thank you for choosing to run in the December 2025 administrator elections. This bulletin contains some important information about the next stages of the election process.

As a reminder, the schedule of the election is:

  • December 2–3: Housekeeping phase (we are here)
  • December 4–8: Discussion phase
  • December 9–15: SecurePoll voting phase
  • Scrutineering phase

All times are in UTC. The first date in the range starts at 0:00, and the last date in the range ends at 23:59. So for example, the Discussion phase opens on December 4 at 0:00 UTC, and ends on December 8 at 23:59 UTC.

We are currently in the Housekeeping phase. Your candidate subpage will remain closed to questions and discussion. However, this is an excellent opportunity for you to recruit nominators (if you want them) and have them place their nomination statements, and a good time for you to answer the standard three questions, if you have not done so already. We recommend you spend this phase getting your candidate page polished and ready for the next phase.

The discussion phase will take place from December 4–8. Your candidate subpage will open to the public and they will be permitted to discuss you and ask you formal questions, in the same style as a request for adminship (RfA). You are strongly encouraged to be around on those dates to answer the formal questions in a timely manner.

On December 9, we will start the voting phase. The candidate subpages will close to public questions and discussion, and everyone will have a week to use the SecurePoll software to vote, which uses a secret ballot. Anyone can see who has voted, but not who they voted for. You are permitted and encouraged to vote in the election, including voting for yourself. Please note that the vote totals cannot be made public until after voting has ended and as such, it will not be possible for you to see your vote total during the election.

Once voting concludes, we will begin the scrutineering phase, which does not have an exact end date, but typically takes a few days to a week. Once everything is certified, the results will be posted on the results page (you may want to watchlist this page) and transcluded to the main election page. For candidates that have not been recalled, in order to be granted adminship, you must receive at least 70% support, calculated as support ÷ (support + oppose), and must also have received a minimum of 20 support votes. For candidates that have been recalled, you must receive at least 55% support. Because this is a vote and not a consensus, there are no bureaucrat discussions ("'crat chats").

Any questions or issues can be asked on the election talk page. Thank you for your participation as a candidate, and best of luck.

You're receiving this message because you are a candidate in the December 2025 administrator elections.

A baton for you!

The admin baton!
Congratulations on becoming an administrator! Apparently per "ancient tradition" I am to treat this baton like a hot potato and pass it on, so I pass it on to you. Tamzin was the first to bestow it unto DanCherek, and it arrived at my doorstep (talk page) a little while ago through the generosity of The4lines.

I personally don't have anything useful to say, but The4lines had good advice that he heard from Epicgenius who heard it from Chaotic Enby, I am told: "we have a pretty helpful guide, but the true secret is to be unafraid to ask others for help and guidance. You'll suddenly get so many new buttons, and it's okay to not know what each and every one of them does right off the bat. On your first days, you can start with areas you feel most confident in: there is no pressure to use the tools everywhere at once, or even to use them immediately at all!"

That's all I have to share; good luck and cheers. Yue🌙 (talk) 00:56, 17 December 2025 (UTC)

Rams vs Seahawks

The Seahawks victory on TNF appears to warrant the creation of a article for it. From the start the game had massive playoff implications and it wasn't a disappointment. The comeback makes it an even better article, should an article be created? Dafootballguy (talk) 23:08, 19 December 2025 (UTC)

@Dafootballguy: I'd recommend looking at our event notability guideline WP:NEVENT to see if this very recent event fits that criteria. A key section there I'd like to highlight for this situation is WP:DELAY, which advises editors to wait until some time has passed (perhaps a week or two) after an event has occurred to definitively judge whether continued coverage is available. There is no deadline for creating an article. Meanwhile, you could consider directing these efforts towards expanding the existing Rams–Seahawks rivalry article. Perl Mongers deletion undo?

The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

Hei! Some of us active in the Perl community learned of the deletion notification only recently, and were looking for ways to improve the page.

Perl Mongers are a completely volunteer-driven open source network of independent communities, and while we're not as big as before we've literally been around for a quarter century. We still exist, even if "secondary sources" don't actively write about us! AND being a purely volunteer-driven effort, we need more time than a few measly weeks in the middle of December to search for articles!

The same goes for the PerlMonks and Yet Another Perl Conference pages. PerlMonks is still actively in use, and is operated in a similar shoestring volunteer manner. The YAPC conferences are still happening, and often organized on a volunteer basis by Perl Monger groups.

Please note that visibility on Wikipedia is very important for open source communities like these. Being removed from Wikipedia is almost like a death sentence, as this will affect the discoverability and therefore the ability to find new contributors for these communities.

Could you please restore these pages and give us some time to improve them?

Preceding unsigned comment added by Sjoshuan (talkcontribs) 10:11, 22 December 2025 (UTC)

@Sjoshuan: Hi, since you have a conflict of interest, you may start a draft on the deleted pages and then submit for approval using the WP:AFC process when you have secondary sources discussing the topic attached. You have as much time as you need in draftspace to research for sources, there is no deadline. Good luck. Left guide (talk) 16:40, 22 December 2025 (UTC)
Can't these pages just be "undeleted"? They were reasonable as they were. Sjoshuan (talk) 18:52, 22 December 2025 (UTC)
@Sjoshuan: They cannot be restored directly back as articles because there was community consensus to delete them, and my duty as an administrator is to simply follow that consensus and not override it. However, as a compromise, I can restore the pages to draftspace for you to work on. Would that be ok with you? Left guide (talk) 19:19, 22 December 2025 (UTC)
What community consensus was that? Those pages existed since decades, containing artifacts of a shared culture. They suddenly got put to deletion candidates status with a short notice, without letting us any time to provide improvement work. Smonff (talk) 19:37, 22 December 2025 (UTC)
(talk page stalker)
Hi @Smonff
The community consensus was a result of this discussion: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Perl Mongers
As @Left guide mentioned to @Sjoshuan above, you're welcome to work on these in draft space and submit them through AfC to see if the revisions address participants' concerns. Standards for notability are very different now then they were when the article was created in 2008. Let me know if that's helpful? Star Mississippi 20:31, 22 December 2025 (UTC)
I feel like the definition of 'consensus' may also have changed in the interim since 2008. The original internet detective work was carried out by someone with a conflict of interest about the name of our Perl Community's "White Camel Award". The other two individuals are not known/recognized by me. Mind you, I have only been active in the Perl community since 2008 when I started working as a data wrangler at the modENCODE Consortium's Data Coordination Center, a project which relied extensively on both the BioPerl project and CPAN. So three people with some kind of elevated Wikipedia status makes it a Consensus Discussion, is that what you are defending? Mdperry (talk) 23:08, 22 December 2025 (UTC)
The consensus can only be assessed based on the participants in the AfD discussion, which is the community's dedicated deletion venue. If you believe there was an error in the deletion, you may file an appeal at deletion review (WP:DRV) to seek community input. Left guide (talk) 23:26, 22 December 2025 (UTC)
The argument around "community consensus" is rather weak here I'm afraid:
That's community consensus? I think you need to take a long hard look at your policies around deletion of articles on Wikipedia if this is how easy it is to erase decades of history, culture, and reference material at short notice. Leejebay (talk) 07:18, 23 December 2025 (UTC)
My only question is if there is no deadline, as that page also specifies for deletions, why is the deletion of these pages within a week not questionable as well? Grinnz (talk) 20:12, 23 December 2025 (UTC)
As previously mentioned earlier in this thread, the deletion of the pages can be questioned by anyone at deletion review. Left guide (talk) 20:35, 23 December 2025 (UTC)
What exactly do you expect to happen as a result of your ever-so-insightful comment, Grinnz? Will the entire Wikipedia community go, "Oh my goodness, it never occurred to us that deletion discussions are limited to seven days, contrary to our 'no deadline' mantra!"?
You already got your answer here. Canvassing on Reddit for people to petition here is a violation of our code of conduct. I will now close this thread. If you wish to appeal the deletion, please take the matter to WP:DRV. Further comments here will be seen as bullying, and treated accordingly. Thank you. Owen× 20:57, 23 December 2025 (UTC)
I find it charming that a bunch of users who have almost zero experience here are questioning the foundation of Wikipedia as a crowdsourced project based on community consensus because--Oh no!--the page about their little club was deleted.
Yes, that is how consensus works on Wikipedia, whether you like it or not. The page was correctly deleted, and the deleting admin offered to restore the page to a draft for you to continue working on, an offer that you have ignored. Wikipedia has a low tolerance for single-purpose accounts, which is what the swarm I see here is. You are entitled to turn down Left guide's compromise offer, but the page will not be restored to mainspace without sufficient sourcing no matter how persistently you badger us. Owen× 13:58, 23 December 2025 (UTC)
My experience of Wikipedia is limited to that of a consumer, for sure, but running back to its early days. You know - those early days when that "little club" was the language and community that literally helped build Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Wikipedia#Hardware_and_software
I stand by my comments and would like the original user's conflict of interest investigated because I feel it's deeply concerning that this kind of approach is acceptable. Anything else is a failure.
Last I'm going to say on this, wading back out for good. Leejebay (talk) 14:23, 23 December 2025 (UTC)
I've been an admin here for 20 years, and am very familiar with the "early days". I appreciate the work of Perl programmers on this project, but I'm sure you realize that doesn't give the topic any special rights when it comes to retaining a page in the encyclopedia about Perl fan clubs. A conflict of interest bars a user from editing an article in mainspace. It does not bar them from voicing their opinion about it in an AfD discussion, especially if that opinion is supported by policy. I'm sorry you wasted time coming up with arguments that are irrelevant for disputing the result of a deletion discussion. If you were genuinely interested in restoring that article, you would have jumped on Left guide's offer of restoration to draft, instead of trying to vacate the AfD based on discrediting its participants. Owen× 15:02, 23 December 2025 (UTC)
OK, one last comment before I go home for the holidays and forget this entire thing.
> If you were genuinely interested in restoring that article
Here's the kicker: I'm not, I've made no comment to suggest I want the articles restored. Maybe that's inferred from what I wrote, but it's not what concerns me.
I'm more interested in the policies that shape Wikipedia as a reference source and an important container of cultural and historical information. I'm interested in what happens when link rot means sources disappear - if archive.org vanished overnight then how much of Wikipedia's sources would be now gone? Would that warrant the deletion of all articles that rely only on them for sourcing?
I'm interested when the burden of proof of sources is shifted to those who may no longer be around to provide it (the Perl community is getting older, we are losing people). I'm interested in how the fractured nature of the web these days, walled gardens, and now LLMs, reconcile with requiring open, accessible, repeatable sourcing?
These are important issues, more important than some random page about a "little club". But all of these little things add up. Leejebay (talk) 15:21, 23 December 2025 (UTC)
I started my software career writing Fortran IV, because Fortran 77 was still a few years away. At a mere 38 years old, Perl is young, especially compared to other topics covered by this encyclopedia. Notable topics generally don't have their sources succumb to link rot. I still have my Fortran, PL/1, and System/360 Assembly textbooks sitting on my shelf (but seem to have misplaced my Cobol manual). If you're interested in debating Wikipedia policy, WP:VPP is a good place to start, although it would behoove you to familiarize yourself with existing policy before suggesting improvements. Sock accusation

Figured I'd warn you that a new user accused you of sock puppetry at Teahouse. Not sure if you care, not sure if it matters, and I know you probably don't need to defend yourself or anything but figured it might be useful to know. The user has already been warned. January–February 2026 Backlog Drive | New pages patrol

New Pages Patrol is hosting a one-time, two-month experimental backlog drive aimed at reducing the backlog. This will be a combo drive: both articles and redirects will earn points.

  • The drive will run from 1 January to 28 February 2026.

  • Barnstars will be awarded based on the number of articles and redirects patrolled during the drive.
  • Two-month drive-exclusive barnstars will be awarded to eligible participants.
  • Each article review earns 1 point, while each redirect review earns 0.2 points.
  • Streak awards will be granted based on consistently meeting weekly point thresholds.
