Would a mythological person count as a fictional person? --Giorgio Bicchiere (talk) 00:12, 16 November 2025 (UTC)
- Welcome to Wikipedia!, @Giorgio Bicchiere. WP has zillions of articles on mythical creatures. They would be fiction if somebody has written a fiction about them (Superman, Odysseus,...). Make sure to provide a WP:Reliable source for any content you add. Have fun! Lfstevens (talk) 01:06, 16 November 2025 (UTC)
- I am aware of that, @Lfstevens. Just wanted to ask because someone put La Llorona under Category:Fictional female murderers of children, and as someone who has an interest in mythical creatures, I don't know if the categorization is appropriate. Giorgio Bicchiere (talk) 02:21, 16 November 2025 (UTC)
- @Giorgio Bicchiere I don't have any skin in that game, but looking at the other members of the category, I don't see any other conventionally mythical figures (are there any other mythical female child murderers?) That would suggest that La Llorona is not a good fit. You might choose to check in with that editor who made that call. Lfstevens (talk) 17:15, 16 November 2025 (UTC)
- OK, thanks @Lfstevens.
- Also, apologies for asking at an inconvenient time, I was unaware my mentor @ObserveOwl is away. Giorgio Bicchiere (talk) 21:08, 16 November 2025 (UTC)

Question from Danrooster42 (02:30, 26 November 2025)
How do I change the font on every Wiki using the Custom Global CSS option? I try and publish the changes but it seems to do nothing. --Danrooster42 (talk) 02:30, 26 November 2025 (UTC)
- I'm not an expert in this, but you might try something like this:
- /* Global font for all Wikimedia wikis */
- .mw-body, .mw-parser-output, body, #content, .content {
- font-family: "Segoe UI", Roboto, "Helvetica Neue", Arial, "Noto Sans", sans-serif !important;
- } Lfstevens (talk) 03:29, 26 November 2025 (UTC)
- Got it. It originally wasn't publishing due to some browser setting, but it works with a different browser. I'll play around with the exact code, but this is effectively solved. Thank you! Danrooster42 (talk) 03:48, 26 November 2025 (UTC)
Question from Smart Andrew (21:01, 28 November 2025)
how to add this insert to my draft (for example, the king of England from such to such a year is the predecessor/ successor) if something is not the king but the baron, I make an example of the king to make it clearer what I'm talking about. That's how it is here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Louis_IX_of_France --Smart Andrew (talk) 21:01, 28 November 2025 (UTC)
- Welcome to Wikipedia, @Smart Andrew! Not sure I understand your question. If you want to create a succession chart as in the Louis article, my advice is to start with this template and fix it to show what you want:
- {{ahnentafel
- |collapsed=yes |align=center
- |boxstyle_1=background-color: #fcc;
- |boxstyle_2=background-color: #fb9;
- |boxstyle_3=background-color: #ffc;
- |boxstyle_4=background-color: #bfc;
- |1= 1. Louis IX of France
- |2= 2. Louis VIII of France
- |3= 3. Blanche of Castile
- |4= 4. Philip II of France
- |5= 5. Isabelle of Hainaut
- |6= 6. Alfonso VIII of Castile
- |7= 7. Eleanor of England
- |8= 8. Louis VII of France
- |9= 9. Adèle of Champagne
- |10= 10. Baldwin V, Count of Hainaut
- |11= 11. Margaret I, Countess of Flanders
- |12= 12. Sancho III of Castile
- |13= 13. Blanca of Navarre
- |14= 14. Henry II of England
- |15= 15. Eleanor of Aquitaine
- }}

Question from Crispybeatle (00:10, 16 December 2025)
What are tips for better writing? Yes, I know I'm not "new". --Crispybeatle (talk) 00:10, 16 December 2025 (UTC)
- Hi @Crispybeatle. Here are some ideas:
- Prioritize neutrality : Present facts without bias. Avoid words like "amazing" or "tragically." Use phrases such as "critics argue", "supporters claim" for opinions, and "a study reported" (rather than "proved" or "demonstrated".
- Lead with a strong summary : Start articles with a concise section that defines the topic, summarizes key facts, and stands alone as an overview. Aim for 1–4 paragraphs.
- Cite reliable, preferably secondary, sources : Every substantive claim needs an inline citation. Favor secondary sources (books, scholarly articles, reputable news) over primary or user-generated content. Use <ref> tags consistently. No need to individually cite all the sentences in a paragraph supported by a single source. Just hit the end of the paragraph.
- Structure logically : Organize with clear sections and subsections. Use headings like "History," "Description," "Impact," and "See also." Follow the Manual of Style for order (lead → body → references → external links). Avoid compound headings such as "Structure and Function".
- Write for a global audience : Use clear, straightforward prose. Avoid jargon, idioms, or region-specific terms without explanation. Spell out acronyms on first use. Keep sentence structure as simple as possible.
- Be concise yet comprehensive : Eliminate redundancy. Favor active voice where possible, but prioritize clarity over flair. Cover notable aspects without unnecessary detail. Remember that most people now access WP from their phones and are not looking for long treatises.
- Maintain encyclopedic tone : Avoid promotional language, peacock terms ("legendary," "groundbreaking"), or weasel words ("some say"). Stick to verifiable facts. Stick to consensus or indicate that a point is not consensus.
- Link internally : Use wikilinks `Article name` for related topics on first mention. This builds connectivity without overlinking.
- Handle images and media thoughtfully : Place fair-use or free-licensed images with descriptive captions. Align them properly and ensure they add value.
- Follow formatting conventions : Use templates like `` for key facts. Format dates consistently (e.g., December 15, 2025). Adhere to the WP:Manual of Style for punctuation, lists, and quotations.

Question from Yourecoveredinbees (17:31, 17 December 2025)
How are you Lfstevens, I see you mostly copyedit. I'm wondering if you have any recommendations for tools to ensure I'm following the rules on paraphrasing sources correctly, to avoid accidental plagriarism/copyright concerns. --Yourecoveredinbees (talk) 17:31, 17 December 2025 (UTC)
- I only have a Bachelor's so don't know the tools used by grad students and scientists to go about this. If you have recommendations on who to ask for advice I'd appreciate it. I'm doing it manually but still worry. Yourecoveredinbees (talk) 18:34, 17 December 2025 (UTC)
- Welcome to Wikipeda, @Yourecoveredinbees. The first thing not to do is copy and paste text from the source (unless you wrap it in quote marks). Stick to writing with your own words and you'll be fine. If you want to check your work (or any article) for violations, here's a tool you can try: Lfstevens (talk) 15:50, 18 December 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks for the link! I'm checking it out now. Definitely not copy-pasting; just ensuring I'm developing an encyclopedic tone and not regurgitating. Yourecoveredinbees (talk) 15:56, 18 December 2025 (UTC)

Question from Emegh (19:26, 18 December 2025)
Hello, I am trying to add images of artwork to existing wiki pages. For example: Laylah Ali. There are plenty of images of her work online that are credited, like from Museum websites. If the image is on a Museum Website, does that mean it is part of the public domain? Which CC licenses should I use? Thank you. --Emegh (talk) 19:26, 18 December 2025 (UTC)

Question from Nukenennis (19:52, 18 December 2025)
Hi! How do you cite sources and why are people downvoting my edits? Thanks --Nukenennis (talk) 19:52, 18 December 2025 (UTC)
- Welcome to Wikipedia, @Nukenennis. Easiest way to add a source on a computer is to type ctl-shift-K and fill out the popup using one of the options there. If you have an url, or a doi or similar, the editor can often create a cite for you. Otherwise, fill it out as best you can. Here's some more info: WP:Sources.
- On your other question, I have no idea. You can leave a message on the page of the editor who downvoted your edit, and they might explain. Lfstevens (talk) 20:14, 18 December 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks!
- Also, turns out the number I was looking at was actually characters removed, not downvoting.. sorry! Nukenennis (talk) 20:48, 18 December 2025 (UTC)
