Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. Regarding your recent edits to Wafik El-Deiry when you modified the page, you introduced unknown parameters. Just because you specify |some_param=some_variable does not always mean that variable will display. The |some_param= must be defined in the template. You can look at the documentation for the template you are using but it is also helpful to use the preview button before you save your edit; this helps you find any errors you have made and ensure that the values you have added are displaying correctly. Below the edit box is a Show preview button. Pressing this will show you what the page will look like without actually saving it. It is strongly recommended that you use this before saving. Note I have likely fixed the error by now so check the history of the page to see how it was fixed. If you have any questions, contact the help desk for assistance.

Welcome!
Hello, Madhatter1986, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.
I noticed that one of the first articles you created or edited appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.
To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, which will be reviewed by other editors. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.
One rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)
In addition, if you receive, or expect to receive, compensation for any contribution you make, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation to comply with our terms of use and our policy on paid editing.

- Hello, I have no connection to Eslam whatsoever. Nor his field. Nor his university. What is the source of this conclusion? Madhatter1986 (talk) 08:08, 17 April 2026 (UTC)
- It's just unusual for someone to wake up one day and decide to draft their first ever article on a not particularly well known academic. It's more usually footballers, singers and models that get people interested in writing drafts. There again I write articles on structural engineers so it's not much more than a hunch. ChrysGalley (talk) 09:27, 17 April 2026 (UTC)
- I appreciate the clarification on notability, and I’ve already indicated that I accept your point on that issue for now.
- That said, I want to address the implication of a conflict of interest. There are many existing Wikipedia pages on academics of equal or lesser note, and Eslam is a rising scholar in his field whom I came across through published coverage and related articles. Choosing to draft an article on an emerging academic is not, by itself, evidence of any personal connection or undisclosed motive.
- I understand that your comment may have been intended as a hunch rather than a formal accusation, but publicly inferring a COI on that basis is not appropriate and comes across as unprofessional. It would be better to keep the discussion focused on the sourcing and notability question, which is the actual substantive issue here. Madhatter1986 (talk) 09:34, 17 April 2026 (UTC)
- You are quite correct that it is unprofessional, since I am a volunteer, unpaid. But yeah, the reality is that somewhere way north of 95% of academic profiles are either by the subject, by their colleague or by their students. In many cases they genuinely don't know of the COI provisions, so that is the reason for the "welcome" template. Having a COI is fine, it just needs a few notifications in the appropriate places, and you will see them all over Wikipedia, including for "autobiographies". There are versions of this template with 5 layers of warnings and cautions attached, but this is the friendly version! I am entirely happy to accept your assurances.
