  • Always sign your posts on talk pages. You can do this either by clicking on the button on the edit toolbar or by typing four tildes ~~~~ at the end of your post. This will automatically insert your signature, a link to your talk page, and a timestamp.
  • Leave descriptive edit summaries for your edits. Doing so helps other editors understand what changes you have made and why you made them.

Population data

Hi Moon1238. I've noticed you adding 2021 population data to some Croatian municipalities, so I thought I should let you know that that's my (long-term) plan for all 500+ municipalities – it may be time consuming, and I have it all sort of automated, i.e. ready for copy&paste: Wikipedia:WikiProject Croatia/To Do List/Missing settlements/Municipalities & Wikipedia:WikiProject Croatia/To Do List/Missing settlements/Towns. You, of course, may use that data, or wait on me to add it. I'd also like to invite you to join our Wikipedia:WikiProject Croatia/Participants. Thanks for your contributions, and see you around! Hello again. Please note that contributions like Special:Diff/1301746775, Special:Diff/1301634313 and a few others you made recently may be deemed copyright infringement because of translations that are too close to the original. All material from nonfree sources should be paraphrased. Joy or other admins may need to delete and hide these contributions. Ponor (talk) 13:25, 21 July 2025 (UTC)

@Ponor what's the original, another Wikipedia or elsewhere? --Joy (talk) 13:57, 21 July 2025 (UTC)
@Joy mostly the municipality official websites, linked as sources in these few articles. It's sort of obvious that they're 1:1 translations of the original pages already from the writing style: "We do not know the details of the founding of the parish in Sveti Križ Začretje." ← "Nisu nam poznati podaci o osnutku župe u Svetom Križu Začretju." or "The town entered the 21st century by renovating the granary building, built in 1796." ← "Mjesto je ušlo u novo tisućljeće obnavljajući zgradu žitnice, izgrađenu 1796. godine. " and so on. I'm sure these edits were in good faith, but I've seen quite a few 1:1 translations being deleted, so I though we should intervene while it's not too late. Ponor (talk) 14:47, 21 July 2025 (UTC)
@Moon1238, please confirm that you have read and understood Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing and Wikipedia:Copyright violations. --Joy (talk) 07:25, 22 July 2025 (UTC)
@Joy I have read it and I apologize for translating too close to the original. I thought it would not be a problem since the sources are the official town and municipality websites. Again, I apologize and I will make sure to paraphrase in the future. Moon1238 (talk) 09:19, 22 July 2025 (UTC)
Please go back and review the longest, most riskiest of the edits, and trim them to summarize. --Joy (talk) 09:38, 22 July 2025 (UTC)

Introduction to contentious topics

You have recently edited a page related to the Balkans or Eastern Europe, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia's norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have an expanded level of powers and discretion in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures, you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.
