WINC (AM)

Sammi and I have discussed this one and while I understand your changes and understand that Radio-Locator is depreciated, it's unfortunately the only site with AM station coverage maps. FCC LMS and CDBS, which have never had AM coverage maps, don't list one for WINC. REC is limited on them and WINC is not one of the stations that has them. So, unfortunately, Radio-Locator is the only source.

If you notice, I only linked to the daytime and nighttime coverage maps. No other information, no other pages, just the maps. That information is not depreciated. That [https://radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/page?p=maps comes from the FCC, likely CDBS. You'll find it says "These maps are drawn using engineering data from the FCC." So, while the site itself is depreciated, the coverage maps are directly from the FCC.

As I told Sammi, I am open to suggestions, but unfortunately, at the moment, we have to use the only information available to us and that's Radio-Locator, not REC (which I did include for transmission site location confirmation) or LMS/CDBS. - Neutralhomer • Talk • 21:13, 11 February 2026 (UTC)

Thank you. I also shouldn't have to message you three times to start a conversation or dig into the USGS for coverage maps which were identical to R-L's. Unfortunately, they are only daytime maps, so nighttime cover is unsourced. We quite literally can't source nighttime coverage. - Neutralhomer • Talk • 19:37, 12 February 2026 (UTC)

@Sammi Brie has suggested to me that citing REC is acceptable, especially for AM stations. FCCData sources the contour maps from the FCC's engineering data but render the nighttime ionsphere slightly different. Those have been what Sammi and I have used to create contour maps of our own for use in specific articles.

An aside: With regard to this, the Virtual Editor minifies the infobox template because that is by their design. This is not a personal motive of mine to remove the spacing between the field name and the =. Nathan Obral • he/him/🦝 • t • c • 20:50, 12 February 2026 (UTC)

VisualEditor, not Virtual. That is actually in the TemplateData for the parameter. It would be possible with consensus to display spaces at all times (mw:Help:TemplateData#Custom formats). Right now, if you make an edit through VE, it will automatically enforce block parameters, one space after all parameter names, if you touch the infobox (e.g. Special:Diff/1338032200 which I specifically did as a demo). Yep, this is something that VisualEditor does by default when you edit an infobox (VE has other "features" that can be annoying to some, such as adding quotes around ref names without them). I can suggest using User:Taavi/Aligner.js after modifying an infobox, if it's bothersome. – Epicgenius (talk) 15:41, 13 February 2026 (UTC)

Coverage Maps

The FCC coverage map links are being marked by InternetArchiveBot as "dead". When you click on them you get a message saying "CONTOUR POINT FILE COULD NOT BE OPENED -- NO CONTOUR WILL BE PLOTTED!". There are JSON maps directly from the FCC that FCCData.org (e.g., REC Networks) utilizes in their coverage maps. At least from an FM standpoint pointing to REC should be sufficient enough. Because Sammi and I are well-versed in getting the data, we have created contour maps hosted on Wikipedia for multiple radio and television articles, which have also proved helpful.
