Because it was a clear attempt to big up the credentials of a politician in the run-up to an election, something that can seen recently across a number of Israeli politician bios. Number 57 19:13, 13 March 2026 (UTC)

Don't call elections "shams".

In this revision, https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=2026_North_Korean_parliamentary_election&oldid=1210024463 you added a citation for the 2026 parliamentary election in the DPRK that stood for over 2 years. This language is non descriptive and editorialization. It should come as no surprise, as the DPRK would consider their elections democratic, and ROK's non-democratic, and vice versa. If they considered the method of democracy to both be equal, than they'd be the same country.

The primary issue is that "Sham" is remarkably undescriptive. There are many kinds of ways to make elections fraudulent. Gerrymandering, election intimidation, manipulation of the ballots, hand selection of candidates, etc, are all principles which go against the liberal tradition. In casual English, in most of the world, an election dominated by this could be called "Sham elections". The specific anti-democratic mechanisms of the DPRK are not addressed, just general "sham-ness". Your citation was a South Korean tabloid, using unspecific anti-DPRK language to appeal to its nationalistic audience, and thus does not meet the editorial guidelines of Wikipedia.

I removed it, and added some factual fluff to pad out the first sentence. If you wish to emphasize its anti-democratic nature, please use a better source and put it in the paragraph below.

Yes, I am aware I have written this to a English administrator who's been writing specifically articles on elections for years, and I am aware of the implication. Albassort2 (talk) 05:41, 15 March 2026 (UTC)
