Hi, could you please remove those live AfC templates, help request flags, and other templates from your Archive 1 page, they are triggering alarms all over the place. Thanks, -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 13:43, 8 January 2026 (UTC)
- Sorry about that. I think I've removed them.Palisades1 (talk) 13:57, 8 January 2026 (UTC)
- I think I've fixed it by copying the actual wikitext from the talk page history. Pallisades1, please take a look at Help:Archiving a talk page. Tell me if you need help with that. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 14:05, 8 January 2026 (UTC)
- Great thank. Again, sorry about this.Palisades1 (talk) 14:11, 8 January 2026 (UTC)

Harvard style references
Ideally, references like Crowley, pg. 809 should be done properly, using {{sfnp}} as {{sfnp|Crowley|2019|p=809}}. If you would like to see an example article that uses this technique, see Robert Hooke. A big advantage is that the source code is much easier to read as it is not cluttered with inline citations.
There is an excellent essay on how to use the technique, at User:SMcCandlish/How to use the sfnp family of templates. I would be happy to help if you like. 𝕁𝕄𝔽 (talk) 20:17, 25 January 2026 (UTC)
- Hello JMF thanks for your help on the citation issue. To make sure I have it right I've done a test using sfnp on Irish Boundary Commission. I'm not sure if it is displaying correctly. When you get a chance, please take a look at it and let me know if it is correct.
- The changes were made from the original Murray (reference 7) and displayed on references 62, 125 & 127.
- Again, thanks for your help.Palisades1 (talk) 15:05, 27 January 2026 (UTC)
- You might want to read the debate at Wikipedia talk:Citing sources#Proposed deprecation of rp template. Other preferences (though obviously Philistine
) are available. 𝕁𝕄𝔽 (talk) 17:07, 27 January 2026 (UTC) - I had a look at the Boundary Commission article and you should be able to see from the diff what needed to be changed to resolve the errors. Please don't hesitate to ask if I can clarify anything specific. Probably the main thing was to 'expose' Murray in the 'sources used', using {{cite book}}. I used {{refbegin}} more for "artistic impression" than "technical merit" but if you have a lot of sources, the
apply hanging indentoption, which makes the author surnames stand out, is helpful to readers. (even though mouseover an sfnp reference pops up the citation info). - If you are feeling enthusiastic, there are a lot of citations of Rankin and O'Callaghan that would look nicer (IMO!) using sfnp.
- On a more general note, I see that you cite the Boundary Commission report heavily. I trust you are aware of WP:PRIMARY and the risk of OR interpretation (I haven't checked). 𝕁𝕄𝔽 (talk) 19:03, 27 January 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks for your help. As a complacent <ref></ref user I see now that using SFNP certainly helps to clean up a page with numerous citations. I also see that the source for the references needs to be exposed in Works Cited. I will start working on The Troubles in Ulster (1920–1922) which has 208 references and can certainly use help.
- Also, although I've added a lot to the Irish Boundary page I didn't add the multiple parts from the actual Boundary Commission report. I will check out WP:PRIMARY. Again, thanks. Palisades1 (talk) 19:28, 27 January 2026 (UTC)
- I think I have made the proper changes to Seán McCaughey. When you get a chance can you please take a look at it and let me know if it is correct? Thanks, Palisades1 (talk) 16:10, 29 January 2026 (UTC)
- Looks fine except I prefer {{sfnp}} (which gives "Thorne (2019), p. 123", which is the style of ref/ref citations) over {{sfn}} (which gives "Thorne 2018, p. 123), but that is a just personal preference and you wrote it so it is your call.
- The same 75th anniversary is cited twice (rather than use a ref name=) and User:Headbomb/unreliable has source as questionable though it is not listed in Wikipedia:Deprecated sources or Wikipedia:Perennial sources. So at least a "handle with care" and better source if possible (which may not be easy in the circumstances and may not change anything).
- The caps in the section heads need to be removed per MOS:SECTIONCAPS. 𝕁𝕄𝔽 (talk) 10:05, 30 January 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks. I will work on some short pages and use sfnp when I launch into The Troubles in Ulster (1920-1923).Palisades1 (talk) 13:46, 30 January 2026 (UTC)
