From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Hi Patken4, I am at State College and am involved with the PSU athletics department in a professional capacity. Please do not undo my edits regarding Beaver Stadium. I understand that you likely have this article on your watch list, however, you are not affiliated with The Pennsylvania State University. Thank you in advance.
Patken4, I was thrilled to see that you had started an article on Kobs Field at MSU. I am a descendent of John Kobs, and my family has remained actively involved with MSU athletics. I noted that the middle initial is wrong in the title, though corrected in the text (John H. for John Herman). Being miserably new to wikipedia, I haven't been able to work out how to edit the title so I thought I ought to consult you, the person who began the article in the first place. Thank you in advance for any assistance that you can give me. Best regards. Plummy28 (talk) 01:42, 24 July 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for the info, I did not know that. spongeman2007
No problem, maybe we should put it was reduced because of the lawsuit. Just a suggestion though. (So in the future people don't try to change it) Thanks again. spongeman2007
Hello Patken4...I'm a wikipedia user who also happens to be a Wichita Wings fan, and I wanted to ask you about the reversions you made on the Wings page. I heard that the National Alliance Soccer League bought the rights to the Wichita Wings name, and they were going to revive them, albeit in a much lesser indoor league. I wrote the sports editor of The Wichita Eagle, and he confirmed that this was the case. Since then (late November), I haven't heard anything about the Wings or this new soccer league. I was writing to ask if you had any news about the Wings current status, as I'd like to know more. If you do, please leave a message on my talk page. Thanks, Borksamoht 08:05, 13 December 2005 (UTC)
- Nevermind, I realize now that you edited a page that already had reference to the NASL removed by an anonymous editor. If you do know more about the current status of the Wings, please do let me know, but if you don't, I quite understand. Thanks, Borksamoht 22:43, 13 December 2005 (UTC)

Chatsworth Stadium

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Chatsworth Stadium, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? GetDownAdam (talk) 15:48, 24 April 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for the addition to the page! I understand how there is some notability now, but now I'm trying to find some kind of concrete evidence that Chatsworth Stadium is, or rather was, the old Kings Park Soccer Stadium. I'm not sure if you're from Durban, but if you are, you will know that there is a stadium in Chatsworth, a significant distance from Kings Park, where games are still played. If, in fact there are two notable stadia in Durban called 'Chatsworth', I'll swallow my words, but I have the feeling that there in an error somewhere and that this mistake is just being accepted on WP, and any changes or attempts to change it will just be rv because it looks like I'm just trying to delete an entire article, and people don't take kindly to that. I'm happy with keeping Chatsworth Stadium, but I'd like to remove all ties with Kings Park. I'd appreciate some help trying to sort it all out. Please! GetDownAdam (talk) 15:29, 26 April 2008 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of Les Cox

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
A tag has been placed on Les Cox requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article, which appears to be about a real person, individual animal(s), an organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, does not indicate how or why the subject of the article is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}} at the top of the article, immediately below the speedy deletion ({{db-...}}) tag (if no such tag exists, the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate), and providing your reasons for contesting on the article's talk page, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. You may freely add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.
You may want to read the guidelines for specific types of articles: biographies, websites, bands, or companies. Orashmatash (talk) 22:16, 28 December 2010 (UTC)

NBA Arenas
Hey, I noticed that you put up the arena histories of all the NBA teams on the infoboxes. Even though I completly agree that this information needs to be somewhere in the article, I'm not quite entirely certain if that info need to be on the infobox. Do you think you can intergrate this information within the articles itself, like using an "Arena History" subsection inside a team's history section of an article?

An error on one of your stadium articles
Hi, I just caught a major error on one of your stadium articles. (Tom Kimbrough Stadium) I just want to inform you but I will correct the mistake. The West Texas A&M University football stadium is formally called, Kimbrough Memorial Stadium and it is named after West Texas State University's former football coach and athletic director Frank Kimbrough. I will transfer the information regarding West Texas A&M University to Kimbrough Memorial Stadium while I put some new info in Tom Kimbrough Stadium article because there is such a stadium in another part of Texas. :-) --Who What Where Nguyen Why 06:33, 8 June 2006 (UTC)

Hi, I noticed you have added just about every player left on the List of Manchester United players. Thanks, that's really great! However, I would like to draw to your attention that some of the appearance counts of the players you have added are wrong. I think you may have read the appearance counts on this website wrongly. For example, for Harry Moger, you listed him as having 242 apps and 22 subs. However, the website lists him as having 242 league appearances and 22 FA Cup appearances. Also, that website only lists appearances in the league and the FA Cup, but not in other matches. In this other website, Harry Moger is listed as having 266 appearances with 2 appearances in "other matches". I have corrected their appearance counts, and a link to the edit can be found here. If you do not agree with me, feel free to revert the edit. Once again, thank you for your help and Merry Christmas! Thaurisil 15:54, 25 December 2006 (UTC)

- Haha, there's almost a competition now between us to see who can create the articles for the best players in the dwindling articleless players pool. I think I'm done, because searching through the list I just can't see any more articles with any biographical meat on them, the last article I created today was of Bruce Crowder, and he played only 243 games and scored 98 points back in the 80s, and after him there's another significant drop off in career notability out of the players still without articles. But be sure to let me know if you somehow find someone else notable and manage to create an article about them. Croat Canuck Go Leafs Go 16:55, 26 April 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah I agree I think we basically have all of them. Friendly Competition is never a bad thing, I kinda have this competitive streak where I want to have the most (and most notable) NHL player articles created on Wikipedia, and SkudraFan1 gives me some competition there, its pretty stupid but its hard to argue with the results. Right now though I'm pretty much done creating stubs for awhile, I'm more going for maintenance, clicking on random player articles and making sure they are up to snuff.

People from categories
There is a lot of contention about the use of the people from categories. You seem to be using it to designate place of birth. From what I can tell this is against convention. Please respond before expending too much more time contributing to the project in this manner. TonyTheTiger (talk/cont/bio) 18:32, 9 May 2007 (UTC)
- My concern is that it is preferable to use people from categories to describe where people were raised or resided for legthy periods of time. A good example of a well policed category is Category:People_from_Wilmette,_Illinois. I have seen much debate at WP:CFD about proper uses of such categories. I am not sure everyone in Category:People from Chicago belongs there simply based on their birth. I concede that maybe they don't have a hospital in Wilmette and thus can't have births there. I am not sure.TonyTheTiger (talk/cont/bio) 19:21, 10 May 2007 (UTC)

Finnish ice hockey players
Are you creating articles about Finnish ice hockey players with some pre-defined template? I had to fix several of your articles that contained misspelled surnames (they were missing the diacritics on ä and ö). Not only that, but some of them had interwiki links to the Finnish Wikipedia, which led to nonexistent articles even when I corrected their spelling. Also, Ilves is an ice hockey team, not a place, and the wikilink to Nokia goes to the mobile phone company - I think you meant Nokia, Finland. JIP | Talk 17:02, 20 May 2007 (UTC)
Baseball players new articles
Hello and thank you for your great work with creating that NHL players articles. I see you are now creating articles about baseball players. Please, insert always also a death year and place information. Thank you. :) - Darwinek 19:51, 28 May 2007 (UTC)
- Including real full names would be good, too. - Darwinek 20:07, 28 May 2007 (UTC)
Article Creation
A tag has been placed on Nemo Leibold, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.
Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. If you plan to expand the article, you can request that administrators wait a while for you to add contextual material. To do this, affix the template {{hangon}} to the page and state your intention on the article's talk page. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this.
- While I (and it seems others) appreciate your dedication to producing content, I think your efforts can be utilized by focusing on quality not quantity. Every article you have created (that i have reviewed) seems to do nothing more than list what teams a baseball player played for, the dates of birth & death (if applicable), and a snipet of information. These articles all meet the WP:SPEEDY criteria. I have marked a number of your pages as such. It would be great for you to spend some time creating articles with referenced content that does more than just state a bare boned list of facts. I will be happy to provide you with some examples of articles that are created with good content. Nothing personal and be well! I have marked this page for watching, if you want to continue discussing, we can do so on here. //Tecmobowl 00:43, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
- The thing is, they are basic stub articles. They contain basic information about the subject matter. All the information is properly sourced. If the articles were to be expanded, they would currently have a decent introductory paragraph. I don't see anything in WP:STUB that would disqualify the articles. Patken4 00:50, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
- While I appreciate the effort to create stub articles, these creations do not merit inclusion in wiki at this time. Here is an example of a stub article that I wrote. It is an attempt to communicate a reasonable amount of information about the person so that it can be expanded on further at a later date. Be well. //Tecmobowl 00:57, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
- Tecmobowl, if one of your reasons to delete these is that you're afraid no one will come along and improve on them, this can be easily corrected. If the baseball project has a list of articles that need to be expanded, I can add links to these articles on that list. That way, all members can simply clink on a link and improve any article and all the articles would be in a central location. Patken4 01:30, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
- That is certainly "one" of my reasons, but not the only reason. You are clearly dedicated to wiki's intent, I just think we have different ways of going about it. I would love to bring in some more people to discuss this, and am open to suggestions on how to do that. I do not think that an article on a professional athlete where very little information is provided qualifies as a good stub. I too am guilty of this, so i don't want you to think I'm attacking you. During the 2007 NFL Draft, I was helping to create article stubs for athletes that were selected. I did the article for Laurent Robinson. As you can see, there is not much difference between that example, and articles you have created. I have been busy collecting information on Robinson, but if someone nominated that for deletion in the meantime, I would not complain. The fervor with which you create articles (which is quite impressive), leads me to believe you could not possibly enhance the articles and will not be doing so in the next day or so. I hope you see where I am coming from. Wikipedia is a powerful website and I would like the content to be as rich and as accurate as possible. // Tecmobowl 01:42, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
- With the exception of an infobox, there really isn't anything different between the Robinson article and my recently created articles. Robinson's article and, for example, Rick Camp, both have basic biographical information (birthdate, birth city) and a basic description of their nobility. Robinson's article adds height, weight, and college. They are both basic stubs. A stub does not need to be a good stub to stay. It just needs to assert nobility, cite sources, and provide a very basic biography of the subject. Expansion from that makes it a good stub. For example, this is how the Babe Ruth article looked for the first two months of existence. Granted, Wikipedia was far less known in 2001 than today. But the Ruth article at this point did not cite sources, did not signify itself as a stub (if they existed then), and did not categorize itself (once again, it existed then). If that article existed today, it would either be speedily deleted or an expansion tag added to it. Patken4 01:57, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
- As I said, I agree that the Laurent Robinson article is no different. If need be i can go place a {{db-author}} tag there. I agree that a basic biography is all that is necessary. However, I don't know that a line stating the teams the athlete played for suffices. Al Stump is a stub that I created that I believe does what is required. You will notice a couple of requests for citations, these came from a section of the Ty Cobb article. I am close to removing those as it does not appear anyone has been able to come up with a source for those statements. //Tecmobowl 02:15, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
I agree with the assertion that these are valid stubs. I have removed the CSD template from all of the affected articles, as the CSD template was used incorrectly and I don't believe the nominations were done in good faith. See my response to Tecmobowl's post on my talk page for my reasoning. Caknuck 01:26, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
- Well you just said the articles were not done in good faith, it's clear that you don't understand what that means. I have elaborated on your talk page and don't know how to continue this discussion with you. // Tecmobowl 01:42, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
- I understand perfectly what assuming good faith means. I invite you to review the three procedural anomalies I cited on my talk page. If you can reasonably explain your reasons for a) using CSD instead of AfD, b) not consulting the WikiProject prior to your mass nominations and c) targeting articles authored by one editor without discussing with the prior, then I will admit that my assumptions of bad faith were incorrect, and that this is just a procedural mistake. Caknuck 01:49, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
- After tagging the offending pages, I came here and left a tag AND a note. I don't believe I have anything else to say to you. Let's not clutter Patken4's talkpage with this aspect of the discussion. // Tecmobowl 01:54, 30 May 2007 (UTC)

I hope that you haven't left the project. Those baseball articles that you created are very valuable to Wikipedia and I encourage you to create more. Don't let the misguided actions of one editor drive you away. -- No Guru 16:37, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
- I second that. You're filling a much needed gap in the wikirecord. While I don't presume to speak to the rest of WP:WPBB's Player Task Force, I know that *I* appreciate your efforts. Caknuck 20:05, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
- Calling my actions misguided is just ridiculous. I made some edits and engaged in discussion about those eidts. Other editors reverted my edits and those have remained in place. What exactly is the problem with that? Further to the point, I have openly communicated that Patken4 was a productive editor to wiki. //Tecmobowl 20:25, 31 May 2007 (UTC)

Hi Patken...thanks for all the blue links. :)
Hey there. I want to thank you for giving everyone in my list an article. Stub or not, it is important that these people have articles, and I really appreciate you doing that. I can of course give the articles the once over and make them larger. But thanks for beginning them and thanks for staying on Wikipedia.
Keep in mind, however, that, since everyone on the list is finished...there will likely be a second list. There will be more red links. Try not to overwork yourself when you get to them. :) -- transaspie 23:48, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
==Some more thoughts==
I have spent some more time looking at the issue of stub creation and I must say I'm much closer to your side of the issue than the side I initially started on. The more I think about it, the better I like the fact that people take your approach. I generally focus on focusing my efforts on a small group of articles at a time. This works very well with your desire to create multiple pages. In the spirit of being more productive, I have an idea for you. There are some areas that allow for people to request new articles and to list articles that need improvement. Do you think there is a way to capitalize on your efforts to make sure the articles you create make a way into a well organized list? I just think the current situation needs some attention, and I would suspect that the community could benefit from these efforts. I would be happy to have this conversation on my talk page if you don't want the content here. //Tecmobowl 00:21, 1 June 2007 (UTC)
- I know at the hockey project that I am a member of, we have a list of articles we have created in the last month or so. So as someone writes a basic stub, someone else will come along and add to it. However, this list only stays around for a month or two. If there were a list of articles that need improvement (probably best to break it down at the project of each sport instead of sports in general), then others can add to articles on that list. As an article gets better, it can come off the list. It could still be a good stub at that point, but at least it has been expanded. The only problem with this is some people who are unaware of the project won't add their articles to the list. But eventually someone on the project will see it and add it.
- The other suggestion is to sub-categorize the expand command. Right now, it is broken down by date someone wanted the article expanded. It might be possible to direct those to the appropriate sport. I wouldn't know where to even start with this idea. Let me know your thoughts. Patken4 00:39, 1 June 2007 (UTC)
- Hope you don't mind, i wanted to keep my thoughts consistent with yours so i copied the info. I like the idea of creating a list of articles broken down by subject, we would be better off. I am hesitant to suggest something that relies heavily on my input, simply because I don't always have time to come on here and contribute. I also like your second idea, although I probably have less of an idea about where to start with that one than you do. Have you ever tried to start a "drive" or a project initiative (or whatever it is called on here). // Tecmobowl 01:22, 1 June 2007 (UTC)
- That's fine. One thing I've noticed at the hockey project is we do have everything categorized on the article's talk page. What we do is add a link to the project on the talk page and someone will later categorize the article on the talk page (stub, start, A-class, B-class, GA, FA). Here is the link. We do currently have a lot of unassessed articles, but those slowly dwindle. I would think most sports would have something like this available to them. This is probably the quickest way to getting what you want done. Patken4 01:41, 1 June 2007 (UTC)
Verb tense
Pat, for someone who has died, you don't say "he is a former professional baseball player", you say "he was a professional baseball player". Okay? DS 18:01, 3 June 2007 (UTC)
Stubs
Hi there,
When you create an article such as Stade Charles de Gaulle, please include the national stub template (which is {{Benin-stub}} in the case of Stade Charles de Gaulle). Thanks--Thomas.macmillan 18:13, 3 June 2007 (UTC)
AfD nomination of Székesfehérvár Ice Hall
I've nominated Székesfehérvár Ice Hall, an article you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but in this particular case I do not feel that Székesfehérvár Ice Hall satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion; I have explained why in the nomination space (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and the Wikipedia deletion policy). Your opinions on the matter are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Székesfehérvár Ice Hall and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You are free to edit the content of Székesfehérvár Ice Hall during the discussion but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion discussion. Thank you. Rackabello 02:02, 12 June 2007 (UTC)
Moose Goheen/Temp
A tag has been placed on Moose Goheen/Temp, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done for the following reason:
Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not meet very basic Wikipedia criteria may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as an appropriate article, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is appropriate, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.
For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. It doesn't appear that you're still working with this temporary copy, so I've submitted it for the speedy delete. If you still need it, let me know and I'll untag it. --健次(derumi)talk 21:48, 15 July 2007 (UTC)
College Football Hall of Fame
Hi Patken, yes I've noticed all the articles that you also made (it's nice when you see somebody who shares the same entusiasm, many articles that I wanted to create you already had created and I believe the same thing has happened with you) and also I want to congratulate for all the articles about the stadiums and arenas of the world that you have made.
Yes, I would like to finish all the articles on the College Football Hall of Fame. When I started there were missing a lot, some articles of members that were already done didn't tell that the were enshrined, and so on. However, I will be out on a vacation next week, so I won't be able to conribute much, but I appreciate your help (if you can, of course). My goal also is to have all the the articles of the players who have played at least 9 seasons in the NFL, and also of all the players taken in the first round of the NFL Draft.
Thank you again and take care.Gypaetus 04:43, 25 July 2007 (UTC)
- Thank you, Patken4, I'll be leaving on the weekend so hopefully I start with a few articles, see you later.Gypaetus 19:00, 26 July 2007 (UTC)
- Hello, Patken4, I just came back yesterday night, it was a good vacation, I saw a Seattle Seahawks scrimmage. I saw that you have begun the College Football Hall of Fame articles and that you're already in letter G. I hopefully continue in these days. Thank you for the great work. Gypaetus 18:06, 6 August 2007 (UTC)
Merges
Hi Patken, I would like to ask you for a favor: there are some articles of professional football players which are duplicated, I don't know how to merge or redirect, maybe you can help me. The articles are:
- Al Lolotai - Albert Lolotai,
- Larry McGrew - Lawrence McGrew,
- Melila Purcell - Melila purcell,
- Michael Spurlock - Micheal Spurlock,
- Isiah Stanback - Isaiah Stanback,
Thank you very much for your help. Gypaetus 18:21, 6 August 2007 (UTC)
- Thank you, Patken4, I didn't know how to redirect pages, but I've learned on the spot. Those pages are fixed now.Gypaetus 23:42, 6 August 2007 (UTC)
