Jimmy Eat World

Hello, I wanted to discuss your edit here. I personally believe the fact that Adkins is the lead singer should be noted in the second sentence, as opposed to just a "vocalist" in the group. With the fact that another member is noted as a backing vocalist, I think it merits pointing out that Adkins is the lead singer. What do you think, though? JeffSpaceman (talk) 11:50, 11 November 2025 (UTC)

Sure. I can hopefully try to explain my thoughts. First, the word vocalist itself makes more sense because Tom is called a "backing vocalist." So there's consistency in word choice. While I can't cite hard evidence, I've perceived that singer is an outdated term and that vocalist is used more broadly, especially in rock music, where the vocals tend to encompass more than just singing. Regarding Jim as the lead vocalist, I just don't think the distinction is necessary. For all intents and purposes, Jim is the vocalist of the band. I really don't know any other way to explain it other than that it's just unnecessary to call Jim the lead vocalist. With that said, there's really no right or wrong here. As some examples, Killswitch Engage refers to Jesse as the vocalist and doesn't even mention that Adam D is a backing vocalist (despite having prominent vocals). Coheed and Cambria says that both Claudio and Travis do "vocals" even though Travis is a backing vocalist. Foo Fighters refers to Dave as "vocalist." pillowcrow 05:47, 12 November 2025 (UTC)

Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Musicians/Archive 13#Timelines. There you go. Countless articles de facto follow this practice. mftp dan oops 18:43, 19 December 2025 (UTC)

Incidentally, Jimmy Eat World's article is another fantastic example of a band who absolutely does not need a timeline. mftp dan oops 18:44, 19 December 2025 (UTC)
No offense, but that's hardly anything official. It's a quick discussion between three editors, with one mentioning "a general rule of thumb" that doesn't seem authoritative in the slightest. I don't see why their opinions should hold much weight. pillowcrow 05:12, 20 December 2025 (UTC)
Then allow me to be the catalyst. I hope to see you participate on the WikiProject talk page tomorrow. mftp dan oops 03:15, 21 December 2025 (UTC)

Trade name

@Pillowcrow: Please stop removing trade name from articles, you are being WP:Disruptive and also being annoying. The word trade name is not banned from being in articles. I also suggest that you stop being in an WP:Edit war with me. Catfurball (talk) 17:14, 27 February 2026 (UTC)

@Catfurball: Undoing unnecessary edits is not disruptive. Insisting on making unnecessary edits is disruptive. I also suggest that you stop being childish. pillowcrow 04:01, 28 February 2026 (UTC)

@Pillowcrow: I am not being childish that is being rude, and name calling violates WP:Civility and can get you WP:Blocked. Catfurball (talk) 16:49, 28 February 2026 (UTC)

@Catfurball You're only proving my point. pillowcrow 01:37, 3 March 2026 (UTC)

@Pillowcrow: And it proves to me that one day an admistrator will block you for your rudeness, and true Christians do not name call. Catfurball (talk) 16:41, 3 March 2026 (UTC)

I didn't name-call. I labeled your behavior—accurately. Take a chill pill, dude. pillowcrow 01:40, 4 March 2026 (UTC)
