Hi Richard75. You might want to ask about File:Jack Berrill.jpg at c:COM:VPC because there's a possibility that the dust jacket you photographed has already entered into the public domain under US copyright law. Under US copyright law, a dust jacket is considered to be independent of the book it "protects" because it isn't a permanent part of the book itself and can be easily removed. So, under US copyright law at that time, a dust jacket was required to have its own copyright notice and other copyright formalities independent of what was being provided for the book itself. There's no visible notice on the file you uploaded, but only the back of the jacket is visible. If there's no visible notice on the front of the jacket as well, then the entire jacket could possibly be treated as c:Template:PD-US-dust-jacket. Moreover, given the publication date of the book (1958), even if the jacket does have a copyright notice, it's very likely that said copyright wasn't renewed, and the file could possibly be re-licensed as Template:PD-US-not renewed. In either case, the file wouldn't need to be treated as non-free content, could be relicensed accordingly, and then moved to Wikimedia Commons. -- Marchjuly (talk) 05:09, 13 February 2026 (UTC)
