I don't know who the IP is or why it was being cut, and I endorse the routine restoration of sourced material cut without an explanation. However I made the deletion after discussion and delay. I'd proposed deletion on the talk page, and it was endorsed by another editor but I let it linger to see if there were other views or if the story would develop further. The IP brought it back to my attention on my watchlist. If the story does grow I wouldn't object to having an article on the deaths. Also, if there is something new about Kaiser's involvement, like a wrongful death suit that brings up evidence of poor treatment of employees, then it'd may make sense to mention that in the Kaiser article. So there are certainly circumstances in which this material might re-appear in one or another article. The sad fact is that there have been countless tragedies like this in the past in relation to many companies, and there doubtless will be more. I believe the current sources and references are adequate to not have User:Sierralaw's additions to this article be counted as O.R. When I read http://www.peoplespark.org/ and additionally when I read "Hip-Hop Festival Takes Over People's Park" http://www.dailycal.org/article/101588/hip-hop_festival_takes_over_people_s_park I get more the feel of Sierralaw's edits. I will add that dailycal.org article as a reference.

A multi year annual occurrence within the park. Please read each of the citations provided. I realize that the L.A. Times article is no longer available free of charge, however that piece and the other freely available citations do support the fact that on a day by day basis the park remains largely inaccessible to those unwilling to tolerate a large homeless presence. The central problem is that People's Park homeless are not just benign folk who desire to sit on a bench or ruminate on nature--no, they view People's Park as their turf, many of them are mentally imbalanced in a very angry way, and residents who might wish to enjoy the beauty of the park cannot do so because of human detritus, trash bags that serve as suitcases, temporary shelters and other accoutrements of the homeless.

I helped build People's Park nearly forty years ago; it was a great idea. That idea has been corrupted over time, and I believe that today the evidence is overwhelming that the park fails to fulfill its original purpose. That certainly is my "Point of View."

The important thing, though, is that the article be supported by legitimate references and that it reflect the reality of People's Park. Recent revisions extended into the realm of advertising promotion and they were definitely O.R.Apostle12 (talk) 19:37, 5 March 2009 (UTC)

Rkmlai, I can use some help. I am just learning wikipedia. I am going to research Detroit and Detroit Lake. I found some great photos today at the Salem Public Library web site. They have descriptions that should help us write an article regarding the history of Detroit Dam, and the town of Detroit. I will post a link here to show you what I found. I will begin to write an article on my talk page if you think that is a good idea. I read today that the temporary housing erected for the Dam construction was capable of housing 600 workers, though rarely used to full capacity. Over the next week, I will try and glean information to use in an article, giving credit where due. If you can watch my page and help me edit, I am not so great at grammar, etc. I tend to ramble on and sometimes another editor can make the message more succint. Mongold photo from Salem Library I received this warning from Katr67, so I will try hard to confirm this information. If you know how to research things like this, I am all ears.
Katr67 Writes: Cool photo. The Salem library collection is a great resource. So far I don't think anyone has been successful in finding a way to use the pics on Wikipedia, but they are good for reference. Watch out for inaccurate information in the descriptions though--they were written by volunteers and and are full of speculation, typos, etc. It's good to try to find a second source for anything written there. I thought my intent was to share my knowledge. However, since then I have read the "what wiki is not" and so if I continue, it would have to be factual, verifiable history about the town, lake and Dam construction. I spent some time looking for online sources about the lake and city. The most unique bits seem to have been written by you. (Link omitted since they have your last name). Unfortunately, they're in blog form, so don't qualify as reliable sources. Of the hundreds of other hits, most have nothing useful to add; the others have a sentence or two about the city being inundated and relocated in the 1950s. Lots of listings of boat ramps and campgrounds, water levels, and weather—probably regurgitations of the Oregon Blue Book entry—but unfortunately little enlightenment. • Strong Keep as the article is about well RS sourced controversies that involve Bank of America. As long as personal attacks against the bank ("I don't like them"), personal grievances about the bank's policies ("They took my money"), and wikipedia editor comments are out of this article, I believe it should be kept as it reflects what is being said by Reliable Sources about the bank and it's policies. Indeed to not have this article would ignore the fact that there are reliable sourced criticisms of the Bank. The BofA article is long enough without merging this article into it. That's my $0.02 . If I may, WiserEarth is a social networking site. I worked in collaboration with others to write the article. First there was the networking on the site http://www.wiserearth.org/user/rkmlai , with others who were interested in having an article. Then an attempt at an article was written by consensus and collaboration here: http://www.wiserearth.org/article/73c89ab4c4e9b75285aa072b8d832d20 then I began the article here: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=WiserEarth&diff=289305304&oldid=258029048 and then more editors added to it. Then, after a month or so, when the wikipedia WiserEarth article was not challenged (as we had referenced and sourced all of the points of the article) then I added it to the List of social networking websites. That seems to me how to write an article (as a group), how to pass 'notability' (in that the website was referenced and sourced [see the footnotes and references]), then how to have it added as a notable social network. The categories for "people from" are to be used for the place of birth, and anywhere the person spent a significant portion of his/her life and/or made a lasting contribution to that place. In the case of General Davidson, he of course was born in Tennessee, but he lived the latter half of his life in California. Regards from historic York County, PA!!! If you are willing to read my experience: I have an appreciation for your edits on wikipedia especially when you were able to help me with the Lost Valley article. I have appreciated learning from other editors and observing how they handle conflicts and use wikipedia tools like templates and hatnotes, by example. It is of course good for me to see that you have verbalized a request. Seeing requests on the project page seems less helpful to my learning how to edit wikipedia effectively rather than seeing actions performed by editors, but I see and appreciate your perception, will honor you request, but will not be watching the project page as it doesn't seem to fulfill my goals, (as I understand how project pages function). I do not have a published citation to offer, but I personally counted the rings on a cut down redwood tree that was within 100' of Luna. I counted 1,536 separate rings on the cut tree. That's 1,536 years old. This tree is only slightly smaller than Luna. As a member of Julia Butterfly's resupply crew in 1998, I spent a lot of time in and around the Luna tree sit with Julia and many others. As far as comparisons to other similarly sized redwoods, the Luna tree sits atop a ridge, meaning she is roughly the same age as trees half her size that occur on lowlands. This is because of more water being available to the tree, produces thicker tree rings, makes for a larger girth tree. So the Luna tree being on a ridge is going to be a smaller diameter even though her age is quite ancient. Like I said, I personally counted the growth rings on a slightly smaller diameter redwood tree stump that is within 100 feet of Luna. There were exactly 1,536 growth rings on that tree. There is no way that Luna's age is less than 1,536 years. I would venture to say that she is closer to 2000 years. I don't know what other citation to give you, other than to offer to take you up there myself to go-a-ring-countin!

Actually, that's not true. It was done directly in response to the protesters, in an effort to drown them out. Hoarders tend to see the mess that might occur so, in my case,I might leave crisps around but would have picked up a can of half eaten food or oily soggy fish and chips. Well my initial response to your comment is a caution to assume the the kids would chuck it out. Specifically, my mom hoards stuff, so there is a genetic and learned behaviors, both of which would probably more predispose kids to _not_ throw out anything that was in the house of someone they were growing up when the parent would be upset for disposing of things, least it be 'important'. You're right: I'm not assuming that the kids necessarily would throw out rancid food, just saying that the presence of other people in the house who might throw out rubbish adds to the likelihood that the "chips" are crisps, not fries. I'm a hoarder with a teenage son whose definition of "rubbish" differs from mine, but if I left smelly rotting food lying around he wouldn't hesitate to throw it out (if nagging me to do it failed). Hoarding can run in families, but sometimes the converse can happen: my mother is obsessed with throwing things out, so I overcompensated and went to the opposite extreme, and my son now rebels against my hoarding. We are writing you this message because there is great news: The Board of Trustees of the Wikimedia Foundation has finally passed a resolution stating that the Foundation is committed to seeking ways to reduce the impact of its activities on the environment. Also, we have created a cool logo and found a nice name for the project which you can see on the right :-)

What's next?

Currently, we are working with Wikimedia Foundation staff to make sustainability a key priority for the selection of a new location for Wikimedia servers in Singapore. Also, we have presented the Wikimedia Foundation with a green energy roadmap to have all Wikimedia servers run on renewable energy by 2019.

The Oregon Jewish Museum and Center for Holocaust Education, in partnership with social practice artist Shoshana Gugenheim and as part of the Art+Feminism Project, will host the 2nd Annual International Women's Day Wikipedia Edit-a-thon to edit and/or create Wikipedia articles for Jewish women artists. The event will be held at the museum on Thursday, March 7 from 4 to 8 pm. Pre-registration is preferred but not required. Members of the public are invited to come to the museum to learn about the editing process, its history, its impact, and how to do it. We aim to collaboratively edit/enter 18 Jewish women artists into the canon. Support will be provided by an experienced local Wikipedian who will be on site to teach and guide the process. This edit-a-thon will serve as both a public art action and a public educational program. Participants will have an opportunity to select an artist/s ahead of time or on site.

Wikipedia is one of the most-visited sites on the internet—and it’s created by people who volunteer their time to write and edit pages. Learn how to edit Wikipedia and be a part of shaping our understanding of our world. In this workshop, volunteer Wikipedia editors will be on hand to train participants on how to get started editing pages and offer ideas for which pages you can pitch in to help improve. Show up at any point during the four hours to get started!

Also: Free burritos!! We will be providing vegan, vegetarian, and meat burritos from food cart Loncheria Las Mayos. Alder Commons has a large, fenced playground. Children are welcome! Some computers will be available to borrow, but if you have a laptop, please bring it to use. We will also be leading an online training for new editors at 11am-12pm PST.
