Hello! Thank you for your efforts to improve Wikipedia, and in particular for adding references, as you did to DayZ (video game)! However, adding a bare URL is not ideal, and exposes the reference to link rot. It is preferable to use proper citation templates when citing sources, including details such as title, author, date, and any other information necessary for a bibliographic citation. Here's an example of a full citation using the {{cite web}} template to cite a web page:
Lorem ipsum<ref>{{cite web |title=Download the Scanning Software - Windows and Mac |publisher=Canon Inc |work=Ask a Question |date=2022 |url=https://support.usa.canon.com/kb/index?page=content&id=ART174839 |access-date=2022-04-02}}</ref> dolor sit amet.
which displays inline in the running text of the article as:
- Lorem ipsum[1] dolor sit amet.
and displays under References as:
- ^ Download the Scanning Software - Windows and Mac". Ask a Question. Canon Inc. 2022. Retrieved 2022-04-02.
If you've already added one or more bare URLs to an article, there are tools available to expand them into full citations: try the Citer tool, or in the wikitext editor, try the reFill tool, and in the Visual Editor, the reference dialog can convert some bare urls into a full citation. Once again, thanks for adding references to articles. Phuzion (talk) 12:57, 30 October 2025 (UTC)
Your nomination of DayZ (video game) has failed
Your good article nomination of the article DayZ (video game) has
failed. See the review page for more information. If or when the reviewer's feedback has been addressed, you may nominate the article again. Message delivered by ChristieBot, on behalf of Tarlby -- Tarlby (talk) 20:45, 4 November 2025 (UTC)
Your reversion of my edit
You recently reverted my edit to Sugar Land 95, claiming that the hyphens that I added were unneeded. I disagree, and I believe that the Manual of Style backs me up on this—see the "compound modifiers" item under MOS:HYPHEN for the specific policy.
As a specific example, the phrase "forced labor projects" can be interpreted as a labor project that was forced, or as a project that used forced labor. The hyphen makes it clear that the latter interpretation is intended. (Given the context, I concede that it is quite obvious even without the hyphen, but clearer language is always better.)
There were also changes in the reverted edit that were not hyphenation: changing "refers to" to "were" in the first sentence, and replacing "they'd" with "that they would". The removal of the contraction is in compliance with the policy at MOS:N'T. I do not have a specific policy to support the "refers to" → "were" edit, but it just feels better to me. — LucasBrown 00:56, 25 November 2025 (UTC)
- Sorry for the reversion, and after a reread I agree the hyphens are necessary. Same goes for the contraction. As for "refers to", the way I see it "Sugar Land 95" is a given name by historians after the discovery of the bodies, and saying "The Sugar Land 95 were" makes it sound like a name the prisoners gave themselves, like a band that has broken up, if that makes sense. I'll undo my reversion, but I believe "refers to" should stay. Of course there is likely no policy for this but if more outside opinions on how to express that comes by they will be considered.
- Thanks. Shawtybaespade (talk) 01:35, 25 November 2025 (UTC)
- Also for the hyphen for "Convict-Leasing", I'd still opt to leave that hyphen out because everywhere else on wikipedia and after a quick skim on other websites discussing the topic it is written as "Convict Leasing" with no hyphen, so it's really just for the sake of consistency. I'm not a major contributor to the Convict Leasing article, so if you believe that article needs the hyphens as well per MOS:HYPHEN you'll have to take it up with them. Shawtybaespade (talk) 01:40, 25 November 2025 (UTC)
- If "convict leasing" were functioning as a noun, then I would agree that it should be unhyphenated; however, in the phrase "convict-leasing system", the phrase "convict leasing" is functioning as an adjective, modifying "system", and therefore merits the hyphen. — LucasBrown 02:09, 25 November 2025 (UTC)
- Done, thanks. Shawtybaespade (talk) 02:18, 25 November 2025 (UTC)

Hello Shawtybaespade!
I just wanted to thank you for your massive contribution to DayZ. I saw the state of the page back in 2023, and I wanted to work on it then, but I never got around to it. Today I logged in for the first time since, and saw all the contributions you've made. You've really shaped it up! I was also curious if you still wanted any help with it. I took a quick glance through the page, but I didn't notice anything in particular that needs editing (besides maybe the reception section.) If you have any ideas just let me know! My knowledge of Wikipedia editing isn't very comprehensive, but I'd be willing to help in anyway I can. Thanks again for all your work! FanOfDayz (talk) 07:15, 22 January 2026 (UTC)
- Hi! I very much appreciate your gratitude, and yes yes yes I'd greatly appreciate help, since I have been a bit busier and don't have as much time to edit the article. Yes the reception section needs greater content, and if possible, more reliable sources for some of the game updates besides user-generated patch notes would be a huge help.
