"The curious thing about football" and "national football" are not reliable sources (RSSSF is no longer a reliable source on WIKI pt, although it is on Wiki EN) and were probably influenced by Wiki itself. As you can see in Wiki PT's sources, no newspaper at the time used the term "Copa dos Campeões". Fulanoo1 (talk) 10:21, 14 November 2023 (UTC)

The listed sites provide very accurate coverage of Brazilian football. WP:BLOGS makes an exception: "Self-published expert sources may be considered reliable when produced by an established subject-matter expert, whose work in the relevant field has previously been published by reliable, independent publications." Yes, I am aware of the problem with WP:BLOGS. In this case, a source was used because he is a player who played mostly for Ferroviária, a team from the interior of Brazil, where the most accurate coverage is provided by this type of sources. @Svartner:, I have noticed that you have been creating many older Brazilian pros and now older Italian players and I want to thank you for that... when going on Wikipedia I find that there are so many older Souh American, Mexican, Italian, Spanish, French, Belgian, Dutch and German players that have good sources that do not have Wikipedia pages and I am glad that other users like you are starting to take notice of these types of players. As a side note, I have noticed that many prominent present-day Polish, Czech, Norwegian, Irish, Korean, Luxembourgian and Swedish top flight and second tier players as well as present-day Spanish, French, Italian, and German third and fourth tier players have good sources. Hello. The point is that if you have an affinity with player articles, you will notice that the vast majority (except for incomplete articles made at the beginning of the project) normally contain the categories of youth clubs, this being the standard adopted to date.

A good example is the case of Morato, a defender who played for São Paulo FC at youth level, was champion of the Copa SP, but never played professionally in the main team. Even so, he had a recognized career at the club.

Regarding ogol/zerozero/playmakerstats, I personally consider it a good complementary source, as does Soccerway. It alone does not actually add value to WP:GNG, which is why I put it as an external link, just for statistical consultation as it summarizes pertinent information.

Anyway, I don't want to get into an edit war just for details, but there's room for further discussion on the topic. I hope there is understanding on your part too. Furthermore, feel free to talk and Merry Christmas. Svartner (talk) 04:33, 21 December 2024 (UTC)

Honestly, there's not a "standard" if there's no consensus... Morato is not the same case as Luisão, since he is known to have played for São Paulo as a youth. See this article for an example: it clearly mentions São Paulo in the headlines. You absolutely can't find the same for Luisão...

IMO, it falls into the same topics where other people were bringing up in the discussion I've pointed you, and GiantSnowman was mainly dismissing... It's not clear whether the category should or shouldn't exist, thus I prefer to leave it out. If you think of it in a more practical way, would you come into Category:São Paulo FC players to search for players who played for their youth team or their first team? Maybe we should (once again) bring this to WT:FOOTY.

Hello, I stumbled across this page when making a page for another Felipinho born in a different month of 1997. You know the specifics better, does this player pass notability? I would say 26 games and 4 goals on Soccerway's record means no , but 7 games and 4 goals in one Campeonato Mineiro season could provide other sources.

I know I'm shouting into the void, but I think WP:NFOOTY was a mistake from the start, as it gave impetus for users to create thousands of pages based on a binary of played in a professional league or not. This has now led to AfD contributors having to do shedloads of WP:BEFORE, as in this case the editor has not provided any text or sources at all for us to judge the notability of Felipinho as a person. Today I'm just working through a lot of articles that you PROD'd last week and I thought I'd drop you a comment. Since you PROD so many articles, you might find it much easier if you work with Twinkle to tag articles and files for all kinds of deletion, CSD, PROD and AFD/RFD/CFD/etc. Twinkle will remember all of the step and take care of everything from tagging the article to posting a descriptive edit summary to notifying the article creator. Just be sure to set your Twinkle Preferences to "Notify page creator" and then Twinkle will take care of that step as well. Of course, I have't found any issues with the way you are doing things now, you just might find Twinkle smoother and easier. Also, if you choose, Twinkle will also maintain a PROD log (and one for CSD and XFDs, too) so you can keep track of your deletion record. Some editors find this helpful. Hi there Svartner, thanks for helping out at the AfD logs. I noticed your "keep" closure of WP:Articles for deletion/Serenity Cox (2nd nomination). I believe it may have been pre-mature. The two !votes were from relatively inexperienced users (one of whom was the article creator), and didn't critically examine the depth of coverage much. There was also an AfD for this article a little over a year ago with consensus to delete, and the arguments from there haven't been meaningfully addressed in this AfD. In my opinion, a full discussion is warranted this time around, and I think broader community participation would be beneficial. Can you please consider a re-list instead? Thank you so much for your great work organizing AfDs and often being the first to suggest a WP:ATD.

I was wondering what your thoughts were about targeting the relevant anchor in List of Olympic competitors instead of the "Country at YYYY Olympics" articles in cases of Olympian AfDs. The benefit would be that there's a specific anchor for each person i.e. List of Olympic competitors (Aa–Ak)#Khalid El-Aabidi as opposed to a general "Athletics" anchor, and it might make more sense to target that row in cases of multiple-time Olympians for consistency.

Per discussion at User talk:Frank Anchor#What to do for Olympian biographies that were deleted without an ATD being accepted, I think there is community consensus to just arbitrarily choose a redirect target for Olympians in cases where there are multiple (choosing the list makes sense in these cases to me because it always mentions the start and end year for multi-time Olympians). The issue with saying delete e.g. at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Paul Diop is that it removes the Wikidata link and page history and then all other mentions are unlinked. WP:SNOW keep is not a speedy keep rationale, it is an instance of WP:Ignore all rules when the discussion is overwhelmingly in favor of keeping. WP:SNOW keep was not applicable here because there were two participants, including the nominator, who had reasonable disagreements with some of the keep !votes, compared to only five keep !votes. I believe this close was WP:BADNAC as while there were keep !votes, they were not based in policy at all, specifically claiming notability is inherited when it is not. While no offense to the people who made them, an admin would have likely just ignored them. Hi. I am curious how you weighted the consensus to see a need for a relist at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Olivia Reingold. As far as I can tell at the time of your relist, none of the participants gave a policy based reason to keep, while all the delete !votes explained in policy based reasons their !vote. Since the relist there has been 1 policy based keep !vote, but there was not at the time of your relist. There are a few other relists which I find questionable over the past 5 days (all I looked at) and would suggest you review WP:RELISTBIAS before relisting any further AfDs. Additionally, "final relist" is not a policy based reason for doing a third relist which requires why they did not consider the current state of the discussion sufficient to determine a closure result (see Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Luke Smith (The Sarah Jane Adventures)). Hello, I relisted from the assessment table, where one of the sources indicated by the nominator himself would be valid for WP:GNG. With another week, perhaps other sources would emerge, and the evaluation by more regular users would become clearer (looking at the AfD again I believe that is exactly what is happening).

Just noting that this has now, correctly I feel, been closed as delete. I don't think I've previously seen "source table which concludes it lacks notability" used as justification for the opposite. You did not indicate you read (or reread) WP:RELISTBIAS but I will again suggest you do so, as this kind of reasoning is exactly what it warns against. I would have closed it as delete before the relist because there was no policy based reasoning - including in what you offer here - for weighting any of the keeps, while there was ample policy based reasons for deleting. This kind of weighting is at the heart of our consensus system and why non-admin closers must be particularly adept at not simply doing an action at AfD just because they have the ability to do it.
