Information icon Hello, I'm Skyllfully. I wanted to let you know that your signature ("sig") design might cause problems for some readers. This is because it violates WP:SIGIMAGE. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page, or take a look at our guidelines and policy on customising signatures. Thank you. Skyllfully (talk | contribs) 20:58, 21 October 2015 (UTC)

Yes. I noticed that and changed it. Here is the new signature that is similar to the one I use at Wikia: Ternera (ᵗᵃˡᵏ!) 21:00, 21 October 2015 (UTC)
Thanks, by the way, you don't need to sign everything you do on a talk page, especially when placing templates, for more info see WP:SIGNHERE.

P.S. This message doesn't need to stay here, it's totally fine if you remove it! Skyllfully (talk | contribs) 21:03, 21 October 2015 (UTC)
Ok, thank you. I just a have a wuick question. I made a profile at the Teahouse yesterday, but don't see it now. Did it get removed? Ternera (ᵗᵃˡᵏ!) 21:07, 21 October 2015 (UTC)
No problem. You can find you profile at the bottom of the list here, or more specifically here, but after awhile, your profile will get kicked out of the list because of the amount of guests we have all the time. Skyllfully (talk | contribs) 21:12, 21 October 2015 (UTC)
Oh my. I don't know how I missed that. Ternera (ᵗᵃˡᵏ!) 21:15, 21 October 2015 (UTC)

Patrolling and welcoming

A note that if you see something on a new page that you're unsure about, it's best to leave it unpatrolled and get a second or third opinion. If you're really unsure, you can direct an admin to it and see what they think. On welcoming new users, always be sure to actually look at their contribs, because some people are just out to vandalize. I've caught probably 10 to 15 vandals that way, and reverted their edits. White Arabian mare (Neigh) 01:04, 23 October 2015 (UTC)

Oh, ok. I will look at their contribs from now on. Thanks for the tip :) Ternera (ᵗᵃˡᵏ!) 01:05, 23 October 2015 (UTC)

Warning other editors

Hi Ternera, thank you for all the great work you've been doing :)! Just a note, this warning, while completely okay and functional, may be better served using Twinkle's warning templates. Keep up the great work! samtar {t} 14:59, 24 October 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for the note. I since have designed a new template that can be found at User:Ternera/Warning. It is similar to the other ones people have been using. Do you think it looks good? Ternera (ᵗᵃˡᵏ!) 15:01, 24 October 2015 (UTC)
No worries - as for your warning template I would recommend sticking to the more common, pre-existing templates such as the ones found at Wikipedia:Warnings. samtar {t} 15:10, 24 October 2015 (UTC)
Wow, thanks! I didn't even know that was there! Ternera (ᵗᵃˡᵏ!) 15:12, 24 October 2015 (UTC)
My pleasure :) if you ever need any help, or are ever unsure of something, there are a lot of editors who are more than willing to guide you. Good luck, and I hope you enjoy your time here. samtar {t} 15:21, 24 October 2015 (UTC)

General note

I think the work you're doing here so far is great, but if you are not an admin you can't block people, so this is unhelpful: the user is still able to edit. Thanks anyway, --Rubbish computer (HALP!: I dropped the bass?) 17:25, 24 October 2015 (UTC)

Ok...um...What template would you like me to use? I am not really understanding. Ternera (ᵗᵃˡᵏ!) 17:55, 24 October 2015 (UTC)
After warning them 4 times or as appropriate, report them to WP:AIV where an administrator will process the report and determine if a block is needed. ⁓ Hello71 19:50, 24 October 2015 (UTC)

Adding a photo

Hi!

Thanks for your help, and for the welcome!

The page I just added is for a band. Do I need to add "(band)" after the name in the title? I noticed some bands have that and some don't!

Also, any recommendations for adding a photo?

Thank you!

SLOgirl14 (talk) 21:32, 24 October 2015 (UTC)

@SLOgirl14: Well, I am not familiar with bands...just reverting vandalism and welcoming new users. I don't think You need to change the name now that you have started the article. What you can do is go to the page called Fialta (Band) and add in this: "#REDIRECT [[Fialta]]". This will automatically send people to the page Fialta when they go to Fialta (Band). Photo: I recommend adding a photo to articles. You can add it by putting [[File:EXAMPLE.jpg|TEXT YOU WANT]]. If you do this, your photo will look something like this: Hey, like my smiley?. Thanks for asking me! If you have any other questions, feel free to ask! Ternera (ᵗᵃˡᵏ!) 22:01, 24 October 2015 (UTC)

Your signature

Hi Ternera. I saw your new signature, and I'm afraid it runs afoul of the signature guidelines, specifically the length guideline. The guideline recommends keeping signatures short in both display and markup, and, well, yours is on 22 lines in the markup. Would you please shorten it? Howicus (Did I mess up?) 22:50, 27 October 2015 (UTC)

@Howicus: Thanks for the message. I was looking at my sig just a while ago actually. I put my signature into a template and put the template into my signature preference spot. It should just have the template...right? Instead it is a long line of code. I finally just got my signature how I want it and really would not like to change it at the moment...I don't know how to keep it and not have a long line of code. --Ternera
I'm afraid transcluded templates aren't allowed in signatures, and substituting a template just makes all the code from the template appear on the page (and it says you shouldn't do that to avoid the other guidelines). You may not be able to do exactly what you want. Howicus (Did I mess up?) 22:59, 27 October 2015 (UTC)
Ok, I'm working on a new one...not sure if this will fit into the preference sig spot, but I will try. Here is the code: <code><kbd class="keyboard-key nowrap" style="border: 1px solid #aaa; border-radius: 0.2em; box-shadow: 0.1em 0.2em 0.2em #ddd; background-color: #f9f9f9; background-image: linear-gradient(to bottom, #eee, #f9f9f9, #eee); padding: 0.1em 0.3em; font-family: inherit; font-size: 0.85em;">TEXT</kbd></code>, and this is what it will look like: TEXT. Do you think the 3-4 lines are too long still? --Ternera
I'm not sure, though it's certainly better...if it will fit, I think it's good. Howicus (Did I mess up?) 23:32, 27 October 2015 (UTC)
Great. I'll try it out. TerneraTalk?Sign!! 00:51, 28 October 2015 (UTC)

KC-46 Edit

Hello Ternera. I received a message from you that you undid my recent contribution because it did not appear constructive. However, my edit was an important update from the Air Force on 29 October 2015 about the Boeing KC-46 Pegasus. It's a constructive update to anyone following KC-46 developments. Thanks.  Preceding unsigned comment added by Bridgettlynn (talkcontribs) 20:21, 30 October 2015 (UTC)

Adoption

I'm very happy that you have asked me to adopt you as a user, I remember when I first started out on Wikipedia I wasn't adopted but I knew at many points I really could use some help from another user who'd been around a little longer. I'd love to start off by asking you what are some of your interests, topic wise, some stuff you find interesting, it's a good starting place. - SantiLak (talk) 01:27, 24 October 2015 (UTC)

Well...my username kinda gives it away. I'm crazy about Hot Wheels, lol. But, I really don't have too many interests...I would like to be adopted because I am not extremely familiar with Wikipedia yet - just the basics and maybe a little further. Thanks for adopting me. ;) Ternera (ᵗᵃˡᵏ!) 02:29, 24 October 2015 (UTC)

Ya I don't think I will be able to, i'm really sorry I don't think I can balance everything else in my life plus regular WP stuff I do and 2 adoptees, but it's great that Samtar is willing to do that. Pasadena Unified - Sources

@Ternera, I understand you wanted a source. It was included somewhere in there in a 100 page pdf.

If the format is not what you want, it would have been easier to tag it, rather than revert.

Especially given that most of it was just rewording what I previously wrote.

If it justifies reverting and deleting, you should also be more specific on the section you are refering to. JakesBurger (talk) 23:54, 5 December 2023 (UTC)

Hello, the reason I reverted it was because the information about Temple City leaving the new Pasadena High School District in 1954 was unsourced. It's best to source information from different places whenever possible. Thanks! Ternera (talk) 02:25, 6 December 2023 (UTC)

Rollback

Hi Ternera. After reviewing your request, I have enabled rollback on your account. Please keep the following things in mind while using rollback:

  • Being granted rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle or Ultraviolet. It just adds a [Rollback] button next to a page's latest live revision - that's all. It does not grant you any additional "status" on Wikipedia, nor does it change how Wikipedia policies apply to you.
  • Rollback should be used to revert clear and unambiguous cases of vandalism only. Never use rollback to revert good faith edits.
  • Rollback should never be used to edit war, and it should never be used in a content-related dispute to restore the page to your preferred revision. If rollback is abused or used for this purpose or any other inappropriate purpose, the rights will be revoked.
  • Use common sense. If you're not sure about something, ask!

If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:Administrators' guide/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into trouble or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Thank you for helping to reduce vandalism. Happy editing! Fastily 23:53, 17 December 2023 (UTC)

Kris Jenkins

In reference, to our conversation about Kris Jenkins (American football, born 2001). He is my son, a football player from the University of Michigan.  I retrieved this information from the University of Michigan Roster page which is a legitimate source.  Do you have any other suggestions on what I can do to have these updates approved?  Thank you so much for your assistance in this situation.

https://mgoblue.com/sports/football/roster/kris-jenkins/24363 Shay-Vault-iPhone (talk) 21:04, 20 December 2023 (UTC)

If you can find a source from their website, that may work. However, Youtube and Instagram are not reliable sources and that's why I reverted the edit. Ternera (talk) 14:21, 21 December 2023 (UTC)
Thanks Ternera. If you read the bottom the bio portion at the bottom of the University of Michigan page, both his dad and I noted there. Kris asked me to add myself and some sort of link, because there is a woman who is claiming to be his mom. Would the citation from the University of Michigan roster page be sufficient? I can always remove the link to my Instagram. I usually prefer to be anonymous. Please advise.
Thanks again Shay-Vault-iPhone (talk) 14:30, 21 December 2023 (UTC)

Change to a source in Colleen McElroy bio

Hi Ternera, on Colleen McElroy's biography: The source link toward the top of the references for her HistoryLink.org is dead. I work at HiistoryLink.org and added a live (new) HistoryLink.org link to her bio at the bottom of the references. Why would that have been deleted without checking what it led to? Thank you. Priscilla Long PriscillaAnneLong (talk) 20:27, 22 December 2023 (UTC)

Hello,
Taking a look at this (https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Colleen_J._McElroy&diff=prev&oldid=1190773812) edit, I reverted it because it appeared to be promotional. It may be best if you replace the old external link with the new one rather than trying to add the new link as a reference, but some editors may see it as a conflict of interest since you work at HistoryLink. Thank you. Ternera (talk) 20:41, 22 December 2023 (UTC)

Shanghai Shendi Group Co. is wholly owned and managed by the CCP. It is literally stated on their Chinese website. You can use google translate to read that it is a wholly owned state enterprise. There is no such thing as private enterprise in China.

Next step?

Hi Temera, I am excited to contribute to Wikipedia on behalf of MD News Network. I have just submitted edits for Dr. Mark T. Gladwin, distinguished physician-scientist and Dean of the University of Maryland School of Medicine. What is the next step? Thanks very much! MDNewsNetwork (talk) 21:03, 3 January 2024 (UTC)

Hello, I reverted your edits because they seemed to be written like advertisements. I understand that it can be challenging to understand proper referencing and suggest looking at WP:REF for details. Thanks and good luck! Ternera (talk) 21:06, 3 January 2024 (UTC)

Austin St John

Austin has not acted since 2020 and is retired from acting. Austin retired being an EMT years ago. There are articles about it. He no longer performs Martial Arts either. I have personally worked with him at comic conventions. I don't need to cite anything from my own personal life. His voice was also not used for Once And Always. Hasbro cut ties with Austin. Only his face is seen at the end of the episode in a Flashback of the memory of Thuy and JDF. 98.5.185.143 (talk) 16:11, 4 January 2024 (UTC)

Hello, it's understandable that you wish to write content based on your personal experiences with the subject of the article, but information (about an actor's retirement, for example) needs to be properly cited from a trusted source. If you know of any articles online that talk about their retirement and other details, it would be best to include those as sources with your edits or to share them at Talk:Austin St. John and ask for others' opinions first. Stanley Walden Wikipedia update was correct

I apologize for not having cited the reasoning for the deletion of that sentence. I don't edit on Wikipedia often (almost never) and didn't see the spot to clarify the reasoning.

I communicated with Mr. Walden this morning because I was concerned about an outdated sentence remaining on your site in future tense. Mr. Walden informed me that the Berlin event had not taken place.

As he noted: "That concert was called off..so the proper thing to do would be to delete it." So please re-delete the final sentence about the Berlin concert: "A celebration honoring Walden's work will take place in Berlin in April 2023.

The rest of that paragraph is correct: "In 2022, Walden's career was celebrated across two continents in honor of his 90th birthday. Tributes took place in the United States and Germany: Barge Music in New York City (September), Baltimore Lieder Weekend (October) and Leipzig (November)." New Pages Patrol newsletter April 2024

Hello Ternera,

New Page Review queue January to March 2024

Backlog update: The October drive reduced the article backlog from 11,626 to 7,609 and the redirect backlog from 16,985 to 6,431! Congratulations to Schminnte, who led with over 2,300 points.

Following that, New Page Patrol organized another backlog drive for articles in January 2024. The January drive started with 13,650 articles and reduced the backlog to 7,430 articles. Congratulations to JTtheOG, who achieved first place with 1,340 points in this drive.

Looking at the graph, it seems like backlog drives are one of the only things keeping the backlog under control. Another backlog drive is being planned for May. Feel free to participate in the May backlog drive planning discussion.

It's worth noting that both queues are gradually increasing again and are nearing 14,034 articles and 22,540 redirects. We encourage you to keep contributing, even if it's just a single patrol per day. Your support is greatly appreciated!

2023 Awards

Onel5969 won the 2023 cup with 17,761 article reviews last year - that's an average of nearly 50/day. There was one Platinum Award (10,000+ reviews), 2 Gold Awards (5000+ reviews), 6 Silver (2000+), 8 Bronze (1000+), 30 Iron (360+) and 70 more for the 100+ barnstar. Hey man im josh led on redirect reviews by clearing 36,175 of them. For the full details, see the Awards page and the Hall of Fame. Congratulations everyone for their efforts in reviewing!

WMF work on PageTriage: The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers deployed the rewritten NewPagesFeed in October, and then gave the NewPagesFeed a slight visual facelift in November. This concludes most major work to Special:NewPagesFeed, and most major work by the WMF Moderator Tools team, who wrapped up their major work on PageTriage in October. The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers will continue small work on PageTriage as time permits.

Recruitment: A couple of the coordinators have been inviting editors to become reviewers, via mass-messages to their talk pages. If you know someone who you'd think would make a good reviewer, then a personal invitation to them would be great. Additionally, if there are Wikiprojects that you are active on, then you can add a post there asking participants to join NPP. Please be careful not to double invite folks that have already been invited.

Reviewing tip: Reviewers who prefer to patrol new pages within their most familiar subjects can use the regularly updated NPP Browser tool.

For the sake of my own curiosity...

I saw your reversion note for the AnonIP that did the edits to Sky (English/Australian band) - they were still on my temporary watchlist. For giggles I looked at the diff and am curious what you didn't find constructive about it? It appears (at least to me) to be substantial and contributory in nature, and also seems to be well-cited & ref'ed. Granted I know nothing regarding that band - so for all I know it could all be fictional information & cites :) Genuinely curious, thanks! --Picard's Facepalm Made It So Engage! 20:47, 4 June 2024 (UTC)

Hello @Picard's Facepalm, thanks for bringing that up. I saw the last couple of edits from the IP while I was using Huggle earlier and my initial reaction was that it was vandalism. Taking a closer look, the edits make sense when you see them in context with all of the recent edits. I'm going to revert my edit at this time. Appreciate you checking this. Ternera (talk) 21:15, 4 June 2024 (UTC)
No problem, and thanks for the feedback. I was just curious and had the opportunity to see the totality if the change in the diff. I agree the last few edits may have appeared as odd, when taken out of context for the totality of their edits. I figured to bring the question here rather than on the IPs talk page or in the article. I am good either way - I just wanted to check :) Thanks for taking another look. Wanting my own Wikipedia edited

I have been trying and trying to edit my own Wikipedia page as you wrote to me about you removing my edit as I didn’t have a reliable source of where the information came from. Well obviously I do as the page is about me so of course I have the correct information for Wikipedia. Please advise how you will verify myself so my page can be corrected? Thank you Ma03032023 (talk) 15:09, 5 June 2024 (UTC)

Editing your own Wikipedia page is a WP:COI issue and should be avoided. Just because someone claims to be someone does not mean that they may add any information and say they are a source. Any claims that a person makes need to be backed up with a reliable source that agrees with the claims. Ternera (talk) 15:46, 5 June 2024 (UTC)
Yep I fully respect this. How can I prove I am Adam to edit where required and updating it accordingly? Of course I can have all I am saying verified as well. Ma03032023 (talk) 18:41, 5 June 2024 (UTC)
You can provide information on the article's talk page, but you will need to provide links to reliable sources that back up your claims. Ternera (talk) 20:45, 5 June 2024 (UTC)

Mistakes

Hi. You have made a mistake in reverting a change to Princess Margaret Hospital, Swindon as not citing sources; as per the summary comment for the change, the additional information was taken from the source that had already been cited. Please revert the removal. Thanks! Patch86UK (talk) 19:33, 9 July 2024 (UTC)

Hi @Patch86UK, thanks for catching that. Looks like you already reverted the edit, so I'll hold off on doing anything for now. Ternera (talk) 19:47, 9 July 2024 (UTC)

I forgot to include my edit summary for the article on "The Shadow Over Innsmouth," but I have redone the edit (slightly differently than last time) because the description of the character of Zadok Allen was inaccurate; they article says that he was kidnapped an sacrificed, which may have happened but is not confirmed by the actual story. Also, this is a dynamical IP address; the other change you complained about (on Strontium carbonate) was posted by someone else—although probably a professional chemist, since they must be in the same building as me. Ingesting above 120 mg/kg may be fatal.[4]

I copied this sentence from Iron poisoning#Toxic Dose , which has a reference there and I linked to that page. Darsie42 (talk) 21:41, 11 September 2024 (UTC)

It seems silly for you to start a discussion on my talk page and expect an answer on your talk page. Will you answer on my talk page? I started a discussion on Talk:Iron redox flow battery#Iron poisoning may be fatal above 120 mg/kg. Maybe you missed it because you reverted my edit so quickly before I could add that talk section. Hello

Hello I was editing the Katahdin page and you told me you deleted some of my edits because they didn't seem appropriate. I don't understand how. I was citing the sources foe the information I had provided including linking the page to another Wiki page. Can you please tell me what I did wrong? Thanks you AlistairBlackthorne (talk) 21:40, 27 September 2024 (UTC)

Hello, the edits were reverted because the links appeared promotional. Thank you. Ternera (talk) 21:43, 27 September 2024 (UTC)

Information icon Hi, Ternera. Thanks for patrolling new pages. I've declined your deletion request for a page that you tagged for speedy deletion, because the criterion you used or the reason you gave does not cover this kind of page. Please take a moment to read the new tutorial for patrollers, criteria for speedy deletion, and particularly, the section covering non-criteria. Such pages are best tagged with proposed deletion or proposed deletion for biographies of living persons, or sent to the appropriate deletion discussion. Thanks! 2601:5CC:8300:A7F0:5D7:5E2A:EBFA:7B67 (talk) 16:53, 30 September 2024 (UTC)

Hi Ternera,

I respectfully believe you made a mistake by removing the external link I added to Santa Fe Trail page. The information I provided is most certainly appropriate for an encyclopedia. I became interested in this subject while researching my 4-times Great Grandfather James Baird, an American entrepreneur and pioneer of the Santa Fe Trail.

Information on this Wikipedia page presents an intentionally narrow interpretation of American history. It propagates an incomplete and culturally offensive historical narrative of the Santa Fe Trail. Exaggerating the importance of William Becknell’s role and his relevance to the Santa Fe Trail distorts historical reality and perpetuates cultural beliefs that bolster Manifest Destiny and American exceptionalism.

I respectfully request that you restore my external link

https://medium.com/@Tewksbury/popular-history-of-the-santa-fe-trail-is-wrong-a31ab61e1de4 on page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Santa_Fe_Trail

I also welcome and encourage you to read my article on this subject. Please let me know how you intend to proceed. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Russell Baird (“RB”) Tewksbury

RBTewksbury (talk) 19:58, 30 September 2024 (UTC)

Hi @RBTewksbury. Thank you for reaching out. Due to the fact that you are the writer of the external link you added, and also because Medium links are not even allowed as sources per WP:MEDIUM, I reverted your edit. If you do add the link to the article a second time, I will not revert it and instead let someone more familiar with the topic make a decision. Have a good day. Ternera (talk) 20:17, 30 September 2024 (UTC)
Hi Ternera,
Thank you for your prompt reply. And thank you for agreeing to “not revert it and instead let someone more familiar with the topic make a decision”. As a descendant of James Baird and a subject-matter expert on this topic, I am hopeful others will consider my external link addition appropriate for inclusion on Wikipedia.
Cheers,

Edit Reversion

Hello, I just edited the page for Jolmaville and you reverted it because I did not cite a source. In my three revisions I: changed the population - which was incorrect - to be in accordance with the source already cited; corrected the name of one of the sources, which had the name of Marengo instead of Jolmaville; and put in the name of the Bad River Reservation, which had been there in a previous revision and seemingly had been mistakenly removed (in fact, there was an open ended sentence because it had been so obviously removed). The page is objectively incorrect without my revisions, what kind of source do you expect to cite that's not already there? Sean30303 (talk) 15:20, 3 October 2024 (UTC)

Hey there @Sean30303. I just took a look at the source and see that you are correct. I've reverted my edit - thanks for catching my error! Ternera (talk) 15:29, 3 October 2024 (UTC)

Administrator Elections: Call for Candidates

Administrator Elections | Call for Candidates

The administrator elections process has officially started! Interested editors are encouraged to self-nominate or arrange to be nominated by reviewing the instructions at Wikipedia:Administrator elections/October 2024/Call for candidates.

Here is the schedule:

  • October 8–14 - Candidate sign-up (we are here)
  • October 22–24 - Discussion phase
  • October 25–31 - SecurePoll voting phase

Please note the following:

  • The requirements to run are identical to RFA—a prospective candidate must be extended confirmed.
  • Prospective candidates are advised to become familar with the community's expectations of adminstrators, which are much higher than the minimum requirement of having extended confirmed status. This includes reviewing successful and unsuccessful RFAs, reading the essay Wikipedia:Advice for RfA candidates, and possibly requesting an optional poll on their chances of passing.
  • The process will have a one week call for candidates phase, a one week pause to set up SecurePoll, a three-day period of public discussion, followed by 7 days of no public discussion and a private vote using SecurePoll.
  • The outcomes of this process are identical to making requests for adminship. There is no official difference between an administrator appointed through RFA or administrator elections.
  • Administrator elections are also a valid means of regaining adminship for de-sysopped editors.

Ask any questions about the process at the talk page. A separate user talk message will be sent to official candidates with additional information about the process.

To avoid sending too many messages, this will be the last mass message sent about administrator elections. If you are interested in the process, please make sure to watchlist the appropriate pages. A watchlist notice will be added when the discussion phase opens, and again when the voting phase opens.

Administrator Elections: Discussion phase

Administrator Elections | Discussion phase

The discussion phase of the October 2024 administrator elections is officially open. As a reminder, the schedule of the election is:

  • October 22–24 - Discussion phase
  • October 25–31 - SecurePoll voting phase
  • November 1–? - Scrutineering phase

During October 22–24, we will be in the discussion phase. The candidate subpages will open to questions and comments from everyone, in the same style as a request for adminship. You may discuss the candidates at Wikipedia:Administrator elections/October 2024/Discussion phase.

On October 25, we will start the voting phase. The candidate subpages will close again to public questions and discussion, and everyone will have a week to use the SecurePoll software to vote, which uses a secret ballot. You can see who voted, but not who they voted for. Please note that the vote tallies cannot be made public until after voting has ended and as such, it will not be possible for you to see an individual candidate's tally during the election. The suffrage requirements are different from those at RFA.

Once voting concludes, we will begin the scrutineering phase, which will last for an indeterminate amount of time, perhaps a week or two. Once everything is certified, the results will be posted on the main election page. In order to be granted adminship, a candidate must have received at least 70.0% support, calculated as Support / (Support + Oppose). As this is a vote and not a consensus, there are no bureaucrat discussions ("crat chats").

Any questions or issues can be asked on the election talk page. Thank you for your participation. Happy electing.

U5 and drafts

Hi, Ternera. I see you already talked to Spicy about this, but since I did tell one of the users involved that I'd follow up with you, I'm still going to check in with a note on U5. In short, it has an exemption for "plausible drafts", which is a phrase that lends itself to a pretty broad interpretation. Please see Wikipedia:What U5 is not for an infopage I wrote on the criterion's misuse, and User:Tamzin/Plausible drafts for my personal standards of what I consider not "plausible". I see that you've started moving encyclopedic content off of userpages, and I think that's a much better approach; it's become the de facto practice of a lot of admins who patrol CAT:U5, when it comes to content that is plausible as a draft but shouldn't really be a userpage. If you're interested, a while ago I made the template {{draftified userpage}} to replace a userpage that has been moved, lest new users get confused. There's also {{subst:uw-draftmoved}} for explaining on their talkpage. Hope all of that's helpful; happy editing. -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (they|xe|🤷) 21:04, 2 January 2025 (UTC)

Hey @Tamzin - thanks so much for the explanation of U5! This makes a lot of sense to me. My apologies for rushing into tagging userpages without taking time to familiarize myself with the process first. I'll do my best to assume good faith in the future and will consider moving pages to sandbox or draftspace before placing a speedy deletion tag. Have a nice day! Administrator elections are an alternative to RFA that is a gentler process for candidates due to secret voting and multiple people running together. Administrator Elections | Call for Candidates

Administrator Elections | Call for Candidates

The administrator elections process has officially started! Interested editors are encouraged to self-nominate or arrange to be nominated by reviewing the instructions at Wikipedia:Administrator elections/July 2025/Candidates.

Here is the schedule:

  • July 9–15 - Call for candidates
  • July 18–22 - Discussion phase
  • July 23–29 - SecurePoll voting phase

Please note the following:

  • The requirements to run are identical to RFA—a prospective candidate must be extended confirmed.
  • Prospective candidates are advised to become familiar with the community's expectations of administrators, which are much higher than the minimum requirement of having extended confirmed status. This includes reviewing successful and unsuccessful RFAs, reading the essay Wikipedia:Advice for RfA candidates, and possibly requesting an optional poll on their chances of passing.
  • The process will have a seven day call for candidates phase, a two day pause, a five day discussion phase, and a seven day private vote using SecurePoll. Discussion and questions are only allowed on the candidate pages during the discussion phase.
  • The outcome of this process is identical to making a request for adminship. There is no official difference between an administrator appointed through RFA versus administrator elections.
  • Administrator elections are also a valid means of regaining adminship for de-sysopped editors.

Ask any questions about the process at the talk page. A separate user talk message will be sent to official candidates with additional information about the process.

If you are interested in the process, please make sure to watchlist the appropriate pages. A watchlist notice will be added when the discussion phase opens, and again when the voting phase opens.

Administrator Elections | Discussion phase

Administrator Elections | Discussion phase

The discussion phase of the July 2025 administrator elections is officially open. As a reminder, the schedule of the election is:

  • July 18–22 - Discussion phase (we are here)
  • July 23–29 - SecurePoll voting phase
  • July 30–c. Aug 3 - Scrutineering phase

We are currently in the discussion phase. The candidate subpages are open to questions and comments from everyone, in the same style as a request for adminship. You may discuss the candidates at Wikipedia:Administrator elections/July 2025/Discussion phase.

On July 23, we will start the voting phase. The candidate subpages will close again to public questions and discussion, and everyone will have a week to use the SecurePoll software to vote, which uses a secret ballot. You can see who voted, but not who they voted for. Please note that the vote totals cannot be made public until after voting has ended and as such, it will not be possible for you to see an individual candidate's totals during the election. You must be extended confirmed to vote.

Once voting concludes, we will begin the scrutineering phase, which will last approximately four days, or perhaps a little longer. Once everything is certified, the results will be posted on the results page (you may want to watchlist this page) and transcluded to the main election page. In order to be granted adminship, a candidate must have received at least 70.0% support, calculated as Support / (Support + Oppose), and must also have received a minimum of 20 support votes. Because this is a vote and not a consensus, there are no bureaucrat discussions ("crat chats").

Any questions or issues can be asked on the election talk page. Thank you for your participation. Happy electing.

Administrators' newsletter – August 2025

News and updates for administrators from the past month (July 2025).

Guideline and policy news

  • Following a request for comment, a new speedy deletion criterion, G15, has been enacted. It applies to pages generated by a large language model (LLM) without human review.
  • Following a request for comment, there is a new policy outlining the granting of permissions to view the IP addresses of temporary accounts. Temporary account deployment on the English Wikipedia is currently scheduled for September 2025, and editors can request access to the permission ahead of time. Admins are encouraged to keep an eye on the request page; there will likely be a flood of editors requesting the permission when they realize they can no longer see IP addresses.

If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply edit the submission, and remove the {{db-afc}}, {{db-draft}}, or {{db-g13}} code.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you read this, you can request its undeletion. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the draft so you can continue to work on it.

Thank you for your submission to Wikipedia! DreamRimmer bot II (talk) 07:24, 13 December 2025 (UTC)

New pages patrol January–February 2026 Backlog drive

January–February 2026 Backlog Drive | New pages patrol

New Pages Patrol is hosting a one-time, two-month experimental backlog drive aimed at reducing the backlog. This will be a combo drive: both articles and redirects will earn points.

  • The drive will run from 1 January to 28 February 2026.
  • The drive is divided into two phases. Participants may take part in either phase or across both phases, depending on availability.
  • Barnstars will be awarded based on the number of articles and redirects patrolled during the drive.
  • Two-month drive-exclusive barnstars will be awarded to eligible participants.
  • Each article review earns 1 point, while each redirect review earns 0.2 points.
  • Streak awards will be granted based on consistently meeting weekly point thresholds.
  • Barnstars will also be awarded for re-reviewing articles previously reviewed by other patrollers during the drive.
  • Interested in participating? Sign up here.

Arbitration

  • Due to the result of a recent motion, a rough consensus of administrators at the arbitration enforcement noticeboard may impose an expanded topic ban on Israel, Israelis, Jews, Judaism, Palestine, Palestinians, Islam, and/or Arabs, if an editor's Arab-Israeli conflict topic ban is determined to be insufficient to prevent disruption. At least one diff per area expanded into should be cited.

Arbitration

  • Following a motion, remedy 9.1 of the Conduct in deletion-related editing case has been amended to limit TenPoundHammer to one XfD nomination or PROD per 24-hour period.
  • Following a motion, the Iskandar323 further POV pushing motion has been rescinded.
  • The Arbitration Committee has passed a housekeeping motion rescinding a number of outdated remedies and enforcement provisions across multiple legacy cases. • Special report: What actually happened during the Wikimedia security incident?
A horrifying exploit took place, which could have had catastrophic and far-reaching consequences if used maliciously; instead, it seems to have happened by accident and was used for childish vandalism. How did this happen, and what did the script actually do?
