Lovin' Spoonful Pot Bust
Hello Tkbrett, I am writing to congratulate you on your excellent page on the Spoonful Bust. I have written a book on the subject (hopefully out on December 1, 2025) with the help of Steve Boone and it includes some new information for your page. If you would like to get in touch, I am on Facebook. Many Thanks, Simon Wordsworth ~2025-33754-36 (talk) 14:09, 15 November 2025 (UTC)
- ~2025-33754-36: Thanks, Simon, I'm glad to hear you liked the article. I saw different authors give it only a sentence or two, sometimes incorrectly dating the events to 1967. It seemed ripe for an article collecting all the extant info.
- Because of Wikipedia's guidelines around self-published sources, I haven't been able to use your books directly as sources. That said, I have sometimes used them for background reference, primarily the day-by-day section. I'm a sucker for timelines – I think if you put events down into a neat timeline, you can often learn a lot.
- Timelines are also good for spotting contradictions in recollections. This example is a little in the weeds, but I think it may interest you. I was curious exactly when the band recorded "Summer in the City". The only source I've seen give a date is Sam Richards' 2021 article in UNCUT, which pegs it to March 1966. One thing that caught my attention though is that, according to Steve Bonne's autobiography (p. 141), John incorporated a riff he heard Artie Schroeck playing during the recording of the What's Up, Tiger Lily soundtrack. But that album is dated to mid-April, immediately before the band left for their European tour. This timeline obviously doesn't work, and it makes me think "Summer in the City" was probably actually recorded in May or June 1966. What do you think?
- Apologies, I am not on Facebook. Tkbrett (✉) 15:00, 31 January 2026 (UTC)
Check-in
Hey there old friend. You haven't edited in a while. I hope you're doing well and hope you come back one day. Happy holidays! – zmbro (talk) (cont) 17:11, 22 December 2025 (UTC)
- zmbro, Hey there, I'm a little late, but I hope your holidays were nice too. Life got a little busy for me. I can't believe I missed the Life on Mars FAC! I'm sorry – I've been a little unreliable at getting to reviews. I opened up GAN and FAC to see if there was anything you had up that I could take on to make it up to you. Anyway, all the best. - Hey again! Didn't know if you'd care, but I got a few McCartney books recently and yada yada check out what I've done to Wild Life X-D. It's a shame I don't have too many other Beatle books because I know it can be expanded more, but oh well. It's in a much better spot than it was 2 days ago :-) – zmbro (talk) (cont) 23:09, 11 February 2026 (UTC)

New book about the Kinks
Hi there! I'm sure you already know about this but a new edition of the Kinks Day-by-Day book by Doug Hinhman and Andrew Sandoval was (or will be) published this month (mid-February). Apparently much more in depth than the first edition. Thought I might bring awareness to it here since I know you're a big fan of the Kinks! VirreFriberg (talk) 20:33, 24 February 2026 (UTC)
- Hi VirreFriberg, thanks for the note. I had no idea this book was coming out, so thanks! I knew Doug Hinman was still collecting information about the band and that he promised to correct some errors from the 2004 version of his book, but I was uncertain whether he would actually follow through on it.
- I'm a little shocked at the shipping price. The book is US$99 and the cheapest shipping option I can get to Canada is US$50. I wonder if it's comparable for Sweden.
- Cheers. Tkbrett (✉) 00:14, 25 February 2026 (UTC)
- Shipping prices always seems to be the infuriating factor when it comes to these small publishers. Just checked and it's fractionally more expensive to import the book to Sweden. It + shipping to my address would cost a grand total of 1688:- SEK which equates to roughly ~US$190. VirreFriberg (talk) 15:56, 25 February 2026 (UTC)
- VirreFriberg, if you decide you purchase it, you can use PARLOGRAM15 for US$15 off your order. I saw the discount code here. Tkbrett (✉) 17:34, 1 March 2026 (UTC)
- Hi again, @Tkbrett. Thanks for the tip! Bizarrely, the shipping price increased overnight....
- Might be worth buying the book though, the original edition has been out of print for 2 decades and second hand copies fetch for upwards of $60 (excluding shipping) on eBay. Somehow has yet made an appearance as an ebook or a PDF-file on the internet from what I've gathered.
- Side note, Parlogram is a GREAT YouTuber for us with a particular interest in 1960s pop music, as is this guy. VirreFriberg (talk) 02:54, 3 March 2026 (UTC)
