Question from Jbentley86 (17:29, 5 March 2026)

Note: Jbentley86's mentor Cyberdog958 is away.

Hello Tol,

I have a question about uploading images to Wikimedia Commons. Do the images need to be part of an article first, or can they exist in Wikimedia's database on their own?

I'm in the process of uploading multiple images relating to the Canadian punk band Mouth Congress (there was a documentary made about the band, and they released 2 albums).

One of the band's members, Paul Bellini, is interested in having Wikipedia articles created for the band, as well as the documentary and two albums.

Thanks for your time,

Jbentley86 --Jbentley86 (talk) 17:29, 5 March 2026 (UTC)

@Jbentley86: If the images are freely licensed (see e.g. Wikipedia:File copyright tags), they can be uploaded to Commons, irrespective of whether they're actively used on Wikipedia. There's some further tutorial information at Help:Introduction to images with Wiki Markup that may be helpful. I would also caution you to read the conflict of interest (COI) guideline — if you personally know Bellini, this would comprise a COI. Tol (talk | contribs) @ 21:46, 7 March 2026 (UTC)

Question from Battyjo (19:25, 17 March 2026)

There is an existing page about me: Steven Frank (biologist) I recently wrote a neutral third person summary about myself which I think might be a good update for my Wikipedia page. I have formatted it in what I think is proper coding. I am of course being very clear about conflict of interest and only want to suggest that some neutral editor look at what I wrote, and then either edit it or ask that I make changes. What do you recommend? --Battyjo (talk) 19:25, 17 March 2026 (UTC)

Hi, @Battyjo; welcome to Wikipedia! I would recommend taking a look at some relevant Wikipedia guidelines — specifically, the conflict of interest guideline and the more specific one on autobiographies. (You are already exercising caution and transparency regarding your COI, which is much appreciated; I just want to make you aware of the full guidelines.) In this case, I would recommend following the edit request wizard to request this edit to your page; another editor will then review it (though it may take some time, as these requests are often backlogged). Please feel free to let me know if you have any further questions. Tol (talk | contribs) @ 19:39, 17 March 2026 (UTC)
Thanks very much @Tol. I will follow your suggestions. Battyjo (talk) 20:21, 17 March 2026 (UTC)
