Minor edit violation
When I first joined, I marked edits as minor that may not have been. "Minor edit" has a specific definition on Wikipedia—it refers only to superficial edits that could never be the subject of a dispute, such as typo corrections or reverting obvious vandalism. Any edit that changes the meaning of an article is not a minor edit, even if it only concerns a single word. Tule-hog (talk) 01:36, 16 July 2024 (UTC)

Your contributed article, Pushdown automaton/sandbox

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
Hello, I noticed that you recently created a new page, Pushdown automaton/sandbox. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page – Pushdown automaton. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at Pushdown automaton. If you have new information to add, you might want to discuss it at the article's talk page.
If you think the article you created should remain separate, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. CycloneYoris talk! 02:10, 29 November 2024 (UTC)
- Can we use a temporary 'sandbox' subpage in mainspace to draft larger changes, or should I stick to user sandboxes? Tule-hog (talk) 02:11, 29 November 2024 (UTC)
- Nope, temporary subpages in mainspace are discouraged (since they incorrectly display as a standalone separate article). Better if you continue to use your own user sandboxes for this purpose. CycloneYoris talk! 02:19, 29 November 2024 (UTC)
Redundant templates
Hi. Why are you creating all these redundant templates? For example there was Template:Kelley General Topology and you added Template:Kelley 1975. There was [[Template:Willard General Topology and you added Template:Willard 2004. Etc. That does not seem very helpful.
One thing that would be useful for topology though would be to create a template for Engelking's General topology. Regards. PatrickR2 (talk) 07:36, 2 December 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for the heads up.
{{Kelley 1975}}was a mistake from before coming across the work that has already been done. I plan to ping Mgkrupa to make sure I understand the functionality before merging it, but it won't be added to any future articles, I'll also clean up where it is used once merged (unless someone feels like doing so ofc).{{Willard 2004}}is just a redirect to make the primary template easier to find. If there is another (Willard 2004) on Wikipedia that should usurp it, fair enough. - I just discovered Category:Specific-source templates this week, and there seems to be quite a few mathematical resources that would benefit from one. Hopefully I will tackle more once I've figured out the template syntax for combined editions! Tule-hog (talk) 08:27, 2 December 2024 (UTC)
"(whatlinkshere claims already in this article, but I don't see it..."
Your edit comment for this edit says "lk Synthetic file system (whatlinkshere claims already in this article, but I don't see it..."
That was probably because it's in the {{File systems}} template at the bottom of the page; links from templates may show up with "(transcluded)" or something such as that. Guy Harris (talk) 08:54, 26 April 2025 (UTC)
Template editing
Hi there. Do you meet the requirements listed at WP:TPE and would you be interested in helping out? — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 21:25, 6 May 2025 (UTC)
- Hello! I would definitely be interested in helping out (although it would take me a while to get the flow of things, and I have a lot less experience then many current TPEs; I learned(/am learning) Lua for MediaWiki editing.)
- Unfortunately I don't think I've met TEGRANT #6 yet - IMO my Module:Copied/Template:merged-from proposals are my first 'significant' requests. Maybe I could circle back once I feel I have satisfied that? Tule-hog (talk) 01:31, 7 May 2025 (UTC)
- Absolutely, whenever you feel ready. You might be over-thinking "significant". When looking at your edits I found Template talk:WikiProject Computing which still has not been done — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 05:51, 7 May 2025 (UTC)

Hi!
Is WikiProject Risk still active? I am very interested in the subject, specifically in the context of Disaster Risk Reduction, and I would like to contribute. StudentOfLif (talk) 01:10, 23 January 2026 (UTC)
- Hey! TL;DR no it is not active, and neither is WikiProject Disaster management (although the latter seems to have a little more engagement, and may be closer to your immediate interests).
- I didn't generate any discussion on the project talk page, and the creator has been inactive for a few years. The WikiProject is still in draft phase, see this page for a bit more detail on what it would mean to officially instate the project - the risk project certainly does not meet the guidelines yet.
- My thoughts on the project are very scattered, developed in isolation from any actual community input, and have not manifested concretely in anything. But, FWIW, a few notes are on this user page.
- My rough opinion is that the uses of risk are broadly divisble as 'value-oriented' (economic, business, IT, etc.) and 'societal-oriented' (disaster/emergency management). I personally see the uses as distinct enough domains to warrant separate projects, although I'm sure there would be productive engagement between them. Note this is just the ramblings of a single small-time user, so they don't mean much!
- I see you are coming to the site via a class: I hope you will find contributing to be a rewarding avenue for your education. There's a lot of weird quirks and limitations to Wikipedia, and parts of the community can get a little 'snippy', but there are a lot of great people doing a lot of great work. Cheers, Tule-hog (talk) 04:02, 23 January 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks for the info. Looking at the guide you linked, it seems like more the merrier in terms of scope. The authors of that page recommended a topic with multiple thousands of articles. At least 10 active editors is more than I expected but is probably for the best. Risk is a big subject with lots of definitions and weird quirks. I like the idea of a project with as many disciplines involved as possible in the spirit of corroboration and, to use a cliche, learning from each other. I can see plenty of shortcomings to that approach but none that can't be overcome.
- Thank you for sharing your notes. I think your distinction between value- and social- risk is insightful. I am curious about overlap, especially in terms of risk tolerance of individuals and groups. Maybe that's getting too far into the weeds for this stage of the project. In my defense, appraisal and tolerance of risk is what is most interesting to me right now.
- I am really enjoying that class, I've never done a project like this one. I've been reading Wikipedia for years now, but this class prompted me to actually start editing actively.
- Thanks again! StudentOfLif (talk) 21:30, 23 January 2026 (UTC)
- Feels safe to assume you are busy with other efforts, but I would like to get a user group going with the goal of reviving WikiProject Risk. I hosted a user group page, would you be willing to look it over and offer suggestions? If this is still of interest to you it would be great to work with you.
