Citizens through descent
Hey, on the same note as this deletion request, I wanted to ask if you think it's also appropriate to merge the Naturalized citizens by country subcat with People with acquired citizenship? Nehme1499 12:50, 17 November 2022 (UTC)
- If I remember correctly, naturalization is one of the ways to acquire citizenship. If Category:People with acquired citizenship contains a significant proportion of people who acquired the citizenship via something other than naturalization, then perhaps it could be kept. If not, then could be merged. Could be brought to discussion anyway. Brandmeistertalk 14:06, 17 November 2022 (UTC)
- True, but "naturalized citizens" it's the only subcat of "acquired citizenship". Might as well just chunk everything in acquired imo. Nehme1499 16:27, 17 November 2022 (UTC)
- Feel free to bring this to WP:CFD. then. Brandmeistertalk 11:02, 18 November 2022 (UTC)

NATO Motto
Hi there, can I ask, how strongly do you feel about including animus in consulendo liber on the NATO article? I know it got kicked out of the infobox because the consensus that was decided was that it was too trivial to include, and I think the same should probably apply to the summary. Before I revert the edit though, I wanted to see if there was somewhere else in the article that you could find to integrate the factoid.-- Patrick Neil, oѺ∞/Talk 13:47, 3 December 2022 (UTC)
- I think it should be mentioned in the article because an encyclopedia cannot ignore the fact that NATO, just like many other organizations, has a motto. I was somewhat surprised when the motto parameter was discontinued in the organization infobox, but such mottos should be mentioned in the article body anyway. Personally I prefer placing them in the lead per WP:SUMMARY, but the place could be discussed. Brandmeistertalk 13:56, 3 December 2022 (UTC)

Hello Brandmeister,
You recently offered a statement in a request for arbitration. The Arbitration Committee has accepted that request for arbitration and an arbitration case has been opened at Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Case/Armenia-Azerbaijan 3. Evidence that you wish the arbitrators to consider should be added to the evidence subpage, at Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Case/Armenia-Azerbaijan 3/Evidence. Russian UFOlogy
The publication in MKRU cannot be taken seriously. The others have in common that Mikhail Gershtein is the source, so the obvious approach is to send him an email. According to this source the UFO Commission was abolished in 2013. --Lambiam 11:37, 14 March 2023 (UTC)
- Yes, but I think there should be an official mention too somewhere despite abolishment. I've emailed the Russian Geographical Society which reportedly oversaw it to clarify this. Brandmeistertalk 13:10, 14 March 2023 (UTC)
- Confirmed now through web search. Brandmeistertalk 23:14, 14 March 2023 (UTC)

Translation
Hello Brandmeister, would you be able to translate a few sentences in an article for me? This is for the Uzbekistan Airways and Riga airport articles. I wasn't totally confident in the Google translations of these sentences (article link):
- Закончила через три месяца — латвийский зверь на ловца не бежал, а трансконтинентальные перевозки были очень дорогим удовольствием.
- Во-вторых, латвийское правительство делает все для развития местного авиарынка. Я имею в виду снижение сборов аэропорта.
Thank you for your time! Sunnya343 (talk) 04:57, 13 May 2023 (UTC)
- Hi, the first sentence would be: "It [Uzbekistan Airways] ceased operations after three months – the Latvian counterpart has not been eager to meet the expectations, while transcontinental flights have been very expensive". The second sentence is: "Secondly, the Latvian government is doing everything to foster the local aviation market. By that I mean lowering departure taxes". Russian phrase from the first sentence "на ловца и зверь бежит" (literally "the game runs to a hunter") is an idiom meaning a good opportunity that comes by itself. Brandmeistertalk 09:51, 13 May 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you! I would just like to clarify, is the first sentence basically saying that Uzbekistan Airways stopped operating the flight because it was not profitable/successful [so the airline rerouted it through Amsterdam]? Sunnya343 (talk) 05:00, 14 May 2023 (UTC)
- Alongside not being profitable, it says that the Latvian destination was not fruitful (at least as I understand it). Brandmeistertalk 18:28, 14 May 2023 (UTC)

Hi Brandmeister, per this discussion, you are banned from 2023 Azerbaijani offensive in Nagorno-Karabakh and its associated subpages for a period of ten months. If the page is moved, the ban will apply to its new title. The usual exceptions to this ban are listed at WP:BANEX. Please let me know if you have any questions. - Hi, Vanamonde93, am I still allowed to edit other WP:AA3 articles not directly related to the 2023 offensive, such as places like Stepanakert, etc. and participate in future RfCs, including discussions on placename changes from Armenian to Azerbaijani following the offensive? Brandmeistertalk 16:54, 23 October 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks for asking before doing so; yes, you are banned from only that page, other AA3 topics are fine to edit. Please remember, though, that your conduct in other AA3 areas will be scrutinized carefully should you choose to appeal this PBAN in the future. Vanamonde (Talk) 17:23, 23 October 2023 (UTC)
Russian source
Hi Brandmeister, could you help me verify a claim in a Russian paper? Google Translate gave a rather garbled result, presumably due to the quality of the image. The source is here, and in Sarmatians#Etymology its page 296 (which is the sixth page in the preview) is used to support the statement '[*Sarmata or *Sarumata] meant "armed with throwing darts and arrows," and is cognate with the Indic Sanskrit term śárumant (शरुमन्त्), which makes it semantically similar to the endonym of the Scythians, *Skuδatā, meaning "archers."'
Could you verify if this statement is actually supported by that page of the source? Thank you so much! Liu1126 (talk) 10:24, 9 November 2023 (UTC)
- Hi, seemingly it does support the source. The related part in the source is "...прилагательное *sauru-mat-a-, которое находит себе цельнолексемное соответствие в др.-инд. (RV) saru-mant- "вооружённый" saru- метательным оружием (дротиками, стрелами)" ("...adjective *sauru-mat-a-, which has a whole-lexical correspondence in the Indo-European saru-mant- "armed with saru", a throwing weapon (javelins, arrows)". Notice of Arbitration Enforcement noticeboard discussion
Hello. This message is being sent to inform you that there is currently a report involving you at Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Enforcement regarding a possible violation of an Arbitration Committee decision. The thread is Brandmeister. Thank you.
Notice that you are now subject to an arbitration enforcement sanction
The following sanction now applies to you:
You are topic-banned from all Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict-related articles, broadly construed.
You have been sanctioned as a result of this AE thread.
This sanction is imposed in my capacity as an uninvolved administrator under the authority of the Arbitration Committee's decision at Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Case/Armenia-Azerbaijan 3 and, if applicable, the contentious topics procedure. This sanction has been recorded in the log of sanctions. If the sanction includes a ban, please read the banning policy to ensure you understand what this means. If you do not comply with this sanction, you may be blocked for an extended period, by way of enforcement of this sanction—and you may also be made subject to further sanctions.
You may appeal this sanction using the process described here. I recommend that you use the arbitration enforcement appeals template if you wish to submit an appeal to the arbitration enforcement noticeboard. You may also appeal directly to me (on my talk page), before or instead of appealing to the noticeboard. Even if you appeal this sanction, you remain bound by it until you are notified by an uninvolved administrator that the appeal has been successful. You are also free to contact me on my talk page if anything of the above is unclear to you. Number 57 15:07, 14 November 2023 (UTC)
- Given this was your third time at ANI/AE in six weeks due to issues in this subject area, the topic ban is not time-limited (i.e. indefinite). You can of course appeal the length of the topic ban now, or, if you choose, wait until you feel have demonstrated the ability to edit more neutrally (and without any topic ban violations) and request the ban be lifted. Your custom fonts
Could you please get rid of whatever custom fonts/CSS/magic you use to blur your signature and most of the text on your user page? It makes it difficult to read. Please note that WP:SMI prohibits CSS and other formatting codes that disrupt the MediaWiki interface, for example by preventing important links or controls from being easily seen or used, making text on the page hard to read or unreadable
. Thanks. RoySmith (talk) 14:30, 13 September 2025 (UTC)
- Hope that's more clear and crisp, thanks for feedback. Brandmeister talk 14:35, 13 September 2025 (UTC)
- Not really. Please just use normal fonts like everybody else so people can read it. RoySmith (talk) 14:42, 13 September 2025 (UTC)
- That's solved via template signature. Brandmeister talk 15:04, 13 September 2025 (UTC)
- Perhaps I'm not being clear. I cannot read your signature. To me, it's just a grey blob. I can barely read most of your user page; most of it is just a blur. People have a fair bit of latitude what they do on their user page and their signature, but if you're doing something which makes it impossible for other people to read, you need to fix it. RoySmith (talk) 15:19, 13 September 2025 (UTC)
- I see my signature pretty clear and readable from a 80-cm (2 feet) distance despite my slight myopia, meaning it should be readable for most people (Mozilla Firefox zoom level 100%). Could be an individual vision issue. Brandmeister talk 17:17, 13 September 2025 (UTC)
- I came here to say the same. Your signature is not easily readable. The black in the between the letters is so thin that it not that easy to see where one letter ends and the other one stops. Could you please change it so that folks with more severe eye problems can easily understand it? Thanks in advance. —Femke 🐦 (talk) 19:39, 17 September 2025 (UTC)
- I've now increased spaces between letters, hope that helps. Generally, I now prefer to use custom signature rather than default one. Brandmeister talk 20:07, 17 September 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks! One more element to check is the colour. Given the black is a shadow which is not present on the top or left side, the grey needs to meet the contrast requirements both with the white and with the black. There's a nifty tool to find appropriate colours. —Femke 🐦 (talk) 20:21, 17 September 2025 (UTC)
- I just happened across this discussion, but the above signature is completely illegible (and also extremely distracting); it more or less reads as "▇▆▆▆▆▆▆▆talk". I'd recommend you switch back to your signature from 2024, as seen further up this page, where the name was formatted as a regular wikilink. –jacobolus (t) 17:30, 24 October 2025 (UTC)
- Switching from "▇▆▆▆▆▆▆▆talk" to "▇▇▇▇talk" doesn't solve the problem. The Impact typeface is intended for logos and display text, e.g. titles on posters. When used as intended in high contrast, its design goal with ultra-bold condensed letters to have the highest possible density of ink while still being nominally legible, so that it can make an "impact", i.e. distract the reader to dramatically emphasize the bit of text set with it. Something like: Smash! You were just punched in the face by my poster title. If used with a dark color on the default light background, Impact is moderately legible for a title, but not really an appropriate signature font at the size of body copy. It is incredibly distracting, which is rude to other participants in the conversation. It could possibly be barely acceptable to use as a signature font if lightened enough to not be significantly visually heavier than the surrounding text, something like "Brandmeistertalk". This would be difficult to read, bad taste, and bad design, but you probably wouldn't get flamed every time you use it. However, your current style of using medium gray text with a darker gray drop shadow to fill in all of the negative space around the letters makes it completely and utterly illegible. Using all caps is even worse. The heavy gray rectangular blob of shapes that are barely recognizable as letters is not an acceptable signature. You should not use this signature outside of your own page. If you want a bold font installed broadly across readers' devices, let me recommend Brandmeister (Arial Black) or Brandmeister (Trebuchet MS Bold) instead. Please skip the drop shadow altogether. –jacobolus (t) 18:33, 25 October 2025 (UTC)
- That's apparently a subjective perception that varies from person to person. I, for one, see my signature clearly enough, like embossed metallic letters with shadows, as intended, and no blob issues (otherwise I wouldn't have designed it). The suggested plain grey fonts look too simplistic and muted for me, but I'll fiddle around with other designs. BRAND talk 21:42, 25 October 2025 (UTC)

- FWIW, list articles are similar to templates. My experience on Talk:List of fake news troll farms, going back to May, is what has informed my sentiments on how long these conversations can take. Over 100 of the websites listed on List of fake news troll farms have never been described as being troll farms.Novellasyes (talk) 16:20, 27 November 2025 (UTC)

Hi Brandmeister, I have come here as you are named in Wikipedia:Local Embassy#Russian. Can you suggest to User:EAMamedov (who has been editing and leaving edit summaries exclusively in Russian) that he should (a) edit in English on en.wiki, and (b) best not write an autobiographical article on his user page? His other edits appear to be experimental, apart from VVER. Thank you. -- Verbarson talkedits 18:54, 25 December 2025 (UTC)

Azerbaijani toponym
The borders of the Adurbadaqan Kust of the Sassanid state (6th–7th centuries) source: 1-Šahrestānīhā-ī Ērānšahr : a Middle Persian text on late antique geography, epic, and history : with English and Persian translations, Author: Touraj Daryaee, Publisher: Costa Mesa, Calif. : Mazda Publishers, 2002. - There are many sources indicating that the name Azerbaijan is present on both sides of the territory, but why are you allowing us to add to it? Ashkelon6 (talk) 16:55, 2 February 2026 (UTC)
- Are you referring to Azerbaijan_naming_controversy#Extension_to_the_north_of_the_Aras? This has been discussed here and added after that. Brandmeister talk 08:54, 3 February 2026 (UTC)
- Thank you for adding the text about how the name Azerbaijan traces back to the present-day Republic of Azerbaijan. However, you've only added this to the toponym section; you could have also added it to the Republic of Azerbaijan page, because many readers might not specifically look in the toponym section to notice it. ~2026-99439-2 (talk) 20:50, 13 February 2026 (UTC)

Regarding translation of Wikipedia article "Mikhail Pervukhin"
Hello,
I hope you're doing well.
The Russian Wikipedia has a detailed biography of the early 20th-century Russian science fiction writer and journalist Mikhail Konstantinovich Pervukhin (1870–1928).
There is currently no English Wikipedia article for this literary figure (note: a different Soviet politician shares a similar name and has an article). Would you be willing to help translate key sections (e.g., biography, creativity / works, publications) into English, or expand / create a new English Language wiki page using the Russian one as the primary source? The article covers his life, pseudonyms, notable alternative history and fantasy works (like "The Second Life of Napoleon"), associations with Chekhov / Tolstoy / Gorky, and more.
I would work myself to get this translated, but I don't have an editing history on wikipedia and in this particular case I would have a conflict (in other words, it would be against wikipedia best practice for me to do this translation myself).
Thank you very much for considering this. Wylfings Publishing (talk) 19:11, 5 February 2026 (UTC)
- Hello, I can translate then within a few days, after finishing editing elsewhere. Brandmeister talk 09:00, 6 February 2026 (UTC)
- Thank you Brandmeister! Much appreciated Wylfings Publishing (talk) 08:17, 14 February 2026 (UTC)
Partial revert of involuntary misinformation
I've reverted most of your edit because there's no document formalizing the status of the flag of the Syrian emblem, and it was not created on 13 March 2025. If it truly was created on 13 March 2025, then it wouldn't make sense because the current emblem was first displayed on 3 July 2025. NeoSyria\Freedoxm (talk · contribs) 07:03, 10 February 2026 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Zero Tolerance (2015 film)

The article Zero Tolerance (2015 film) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Seems to fail WP:NFILM. Zero reviews or reliable sources found in a WP:BEFORE.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion based on established criteria.
If the proposed deletion has already been carried out, you may request undeletion of the article at any time. Ten Pound Hammer • (What did I screw up now?) 13:11, 25 March 2026 (UTC)
- I'm not convinced on the sources you added. Routine plot summaries from Letterboxd are not reliable sources on their own, and what makes the other two sources reliable? They appear to be fan sites. Ten Pound Hammer • (What did I screw up now?) 17:00, 25 March 2026 (UTC)
- The article cites rating on Letterboxd rather than plot summary which is a common practice for film RS. As for the other two, I'm not sure they're fan sites, but I can replace them. Brandmeister talk 21:22, 25 March 2026 (UTC)
