I'm not sure why this exact sentence needs to be included in multiple articles. Aside from it being clunky, universities typically own land all over the place apart from their main continguous campus area. Local government articles' "education" sections typically don't mention a fact like this unless their are major classroom buildings or teaching facilities of a university located in the jurisdiction. So, in the case of Alaiedon, you've got the poultry and tree research centers, which are probably worth a mention. But there is nothing in Okemos. And, again, "Michigan State University land" is a clunky construction. I think even for those which only have empty university land, the sentence is a way of signaling that the municipality is in proximity to the university (to show that MSU's main campus in East Lansing is nearby).
