Style tag misuse
Hello! I've noticed that you've been making quite a few edits adding style tags like {{Use American English}} and {{Use mdy dates}} to a very large volume of articles lately. While I appreciate the effort to standardize article metadata, I wanted to point out the community guidelines regarding WP:COSMETICBOT (which applies to human editors as well). Generally, small standalone edits that don't change the rendered appearance of a page, especially when made in such a large volume (such that they flood watchlists) are discouraged unless they are bundled with substantive content improvements. This kind of mass-tagging can also run into WP:ENGVAR issues if the article's existing style hasn't been firmly established yet, or if these tags conflict with the current style of the article. For example, I've noticed that in many of the articles that you've added {{Use mdy dates}} to, the article uses a different date style and hasn't been changed. Please bundle these style tags with other article improvements. NexusXe (talk) 01:19, 15 March 2026 (UTC)
- @Yedaman54 I just want to add that you were also reminded about related guidelines by three editors in February (User talk:Yedaman54/Archive 3#American English and mdy tags) and another in January (User talk:Yedaman54/Archive 3#Changing English Versions) as well. - Also, there's not really a reason to edit the spacing in such tags in edits that don't add anything else of substance. It doesn't really enhance readability to any necessary extent, and to my knowledge, there is no MOS page recommending this. Specifically referring to this edit, which would generally be considered as a dummy edit, which are mainly used for commenting in an edit summary, but not to be used otherwise. Hello. I have noticed that you often edit without using an edit summary. Please do your best to always fill in the summary field. This helps your fellow editors use their time more productively, rather than spending it unnecessarily scrutinizing and verifying your work. Even a short summary is better than no summary, and summaries are particularly important for large, complex, or potentially controversial edits. To help yourself remember, you may wish to set Preferences → Editing →
Prompt me when entering a blank edit summary (or the default undo summary). Thanks! Danners430 tweaks made 07:38, 16 March 2026 (UTC)
- @Yedaman54 Also pointing out that you've been reminded about edit summaries several times in the past few months:
- Also, your recent edit summary of "tag" is not very helpful, because "tag" can mean too many different things. Dreamyshade (talk) 23:49, 16 March 2026 (UTC)
