Ice hockey at the 2026 Winter Olympics

Hi! I wanted to thank you for adding to the discussion here and for the points you raised. It's interesting to see users' arguments for why the section qualifies as WP:NOTNEWS, when there has been a public reaction to it that goes beyond the USA, and, like you said, the Gaudreau section is acceptable even though it only pertains to Team USA and their gold medal win. I'm also curious about any manual guidelines regarding political stories and their overlap with sports. I know Wikipedia editors must strive for objectivity, but removing mention of the incident from there or anywhere else gives off a "keep politics out of sports" sentiment itself, intentional or not. I wondered if the section would be more acceptable if I changed the name of the heading or worded the section differently. Spectrallights (talk) 15:08, 25 February 2026 (UTC)

Thank you for this thoughtful comment! I've linked to it in the discussion thread in the NPOV page. I hope that my updated edit will get us closer to consensus on this issue, and I agree 100% that the lack of inclusion feels like sportswashing in and of itself.
