Valentin Lefebre[a] (1637–1677) was a Flemish painter, draughtsman and printmaker.

Life

Valentin Lefebre was born in Brussels in 1637,[1] or around 1642.[2] He died in 1677,[1] or between 1680 and 1682: allegedly in Venice,[2] or in England.[3]

Works

He etched the series Opera selectiora quae Titianus … et Paulus Calliari Veronensis invenerunt et pinxerunt.[2] The collection consists of fifty-three etchings after works by Titian, Paolo Veronese, and Jacopo Tintoretto.[4] The series was first published in Venice by Jacob van Campen in 1682,[b] and was dedicated to Louis XIV.[4] It was often reprinted: in 1684, 1749, and 1763; and later by Teodoro Viero, who added his address to the plates, in 1786 and 1789.[1][2]

In the church of Santa Giustina in Padua is his painting of Saint Maurus with angels (1688).[2]
