History

The station first signed on the air on December 30, 1967, using the call letters WCSW.[3] It was established by the Tomahawk Broadcasting Company as a dedicated local service for Washburn County.

On June 1, 2018, WCSW changed their call letters to WXNK and changed their format from news/talk to active rock, branded as "Ink 92.7" (simulcast on FM translator W224DN Shell Lake).[4]

On June 1, 2018, the station underwent a complete rebranding following its acquisition by Zoe Communications, Inc.[5] The call letters were changed to WXNK, and the format transitioned from talk to active rock. The station began branding itself as "Ink 92.7," a name derived from its new call letters and its simulcast on a dedicated FM translator, which allowed the rock format. In 2019, the station's tower and transmitter facilities suffered significant damage due to a brush-clearing accident caused by a local utility company.[6] This incident forced the station to operate at a reduced power of 50 watts for an extended period while repairs were conducted. In April 2020, WXNK began a temporary simulcast on sister station WXCE in Amery to further expand the reach of the "Ink" rock format throughout Northwestern Wisconsin.[7] However, this partnership ended in 2021 when WXCE broke the simulcast to briefly air a soft adult contemporary format before eventually being sold.[8] Following the split, WXNK maintained its active rock format.
