${\displaystyle \mathrm {C} }$ stands for ${\displaystyle \mathrm {C} }$onsensus, and ${\displaystyle \mathrm {E} }$ stands for ${\displaystyle \mathrm {E} }$dit. The ${\displaystyle \mathrm {E} }$dit is then supported by the ${\displaystyle \mathrm {C} }$onsensus, so it sticks.
