With a rise of nationalism in Yugoslavia and subsequent breakup of the country everything ever related to Yugoslavia and its part was dragged into controversy, largely including linguistic and historical revisionism. By the inception of Wikipedia an uphill battle between the nationalist factions was already in place, and POV pushers soon inflated Yugoslavia-related topics. This guideline was crafted to help editors identify and handle POV pushing, and to help bringing Yugoslavia-related articles up to the Wikipedia neutrality standards.
