The photograph was taken between 1956 and 1958. Because it was published before January 1, 1960, it's in the public domain. It's also applicable for the Wikimedia Commons because it entered public domain in the United States prior to 1996. The licencing for this image, for example, gives a good summary of NZ copyright law. Hrstich spent two years as a pro in New Zealand before he left the country in 1958 to compete in the United States. The photo was taken while he was competing as "Dick Hrstich", a name he only used in NZ, with his North American ringname "Ray Gordon" in brackets.
