The article was quite long, at over 14,000 words. This is 2,000 words longer than its GAN reviewed version, and longer than the 8,000 words that WP:AS and WP:TOOBIG recommend for spinning out. I think there are some sections that can be spun out and summarised more effectively here. There are also several sections that are quite long without a sub-heading: this makes navigation more difficult, especially on mobile. Z1720 (talk) 15:57, 4 April 2026 (UTC)
- Eh, I think this could be trimmed somewhat, but imo 8000 is way, way too short for such a broad topic. 8,000 is when it says you might want to split, 15,000 is when it becomes mandatory - between then it depends on the topic. If conscience isn't a broad topic few things are, so a word count that high is appropriate.. I would suggest trying to trim it back to the size it had at the GAN, which I think was fine. - @PARAKANYAA: Featured articles such as Mind, Aesthetics, Ethics, and Philosophy are about 9,000 words or less. Knowledge, a good article, is under 9,000. I think there should be attempts to spin out information before this GAR determines that the article can justify its long length. I also see that some sections are quite long, and would benefit from trimming or adding headings to make it easier to navigate. Z1720 (talk) 19:42, 5 April 2026 (UTC)
- Well, first, you'd have to suggest what should be spun out. I would argue that in all those cases there are much more obvious splits than here, so a longer article could be more appropriate. And adding more headings, sure, but that won't address length. PARAKANYAA (talk) 19:45, 5 April 2026 (UTC)
- @PARAKANYAA: If a section is over four paragraphs, I usually recommend that it is considered for spinning out in articles that are quite long. This is because the spun out article will usually have a four paragraph lead, which can be used as the basis of what is placed in the parent article. I was going to list sections that might match that description, but it seems like every section of the article is very long and would benefit from additional sub-headings or spinning out. I also think "Notable examples of modern acts based on conscience" needs to be rewritten to move the examples to what it is describing, or removed. Z1720 (talk) 20:40, 5 April 2026 (UTC)
- I think that varies greatly by section topic especially on broad articles. Most of the sections here don't seem to me to be notable topics on their own. PARAKANYAA (talk) 20:55, 5 April 2026 (UTC)
- But yeah I am confused what the notable examples section is really trying to convey. PARAKANYAA (talk) 20:55, 5 April 2026 (UTC)
