Some Wikipedians have formed a project to document the notable activities of Bill Drummond and Jimmy Cauty (The KLF) in a high-quality, encyclopedic fashion. This page and its subpages contain their suggestions; it is hoped that this project will help to focus the efforts of other Wikipedians.

Please note that this is a very small, highly focused WikiProject (a "micro Project"). This should be considered a central meeting point for discussing how to proceed on articles relating to The KLF. Please also note that this isn't an attempt to inflate the importance of The KLF, it's simply that they're a band we love - for their antics as much as the music - and we enjoy making high quality articles about them.

Scope

The Project is concerned with all notable activities of Bill Drummond and Jimmy Cauty, better known as The KLF, and related articles.

Goals

  • Bring The KLF from B-Class to Featured Article
  • Produce articles of at least Good Article standard for The KLF's albums and notable songs
  • Avoid fancruft, report published opinion
  • Do we want to aim for the discography and K Foundation to be featured too? - Yes! --Vinoir 02:43, 17 March 2007 (UTC)

Current projects

  • Bring The KLF back to FA status (probably via GA)
  • Bring The K Foundation burn a million quid to FA
  • Ensure existing FAs retain their status (4 at the time of writing, March 2020, including The Orb which is an important topic to the WikiProject - the Cauty years at least - but not our work)

Moratorium

It has not been disclosed whether this WikiProject will be inactive for 23 years, but the founder will not discuss whether or not a moratorium was or was not in place until 23 May 2009. Not to be taken seriously; the project may be revived at any time by anyone.

Wikimania 2006 awards

The KLF was named best article in the Humanities & Culture class at Wikimania 2006 I (User:Kingboyk) found out that my hard work (along with the hard work of User:Vinoir) had won a prize by finding a mention of it in Google (that is, won a prize for the nominator). Thanks for letting me know folks!

To-do list

The plan was to tackle the duo's singles and albums in chronological order. Depending on length and the availability of sources, the goal may be Featured Article status (FA).

February 2020 update: The JAMs articles are mostly very good or excellent. The KLF article is no longer even a GA. At the time of writing, only JAMs and K Foundation articles are GAs and The Orb, Fuck the Millennium and 2 JAMs articles are FAs. Therefore any future focus ought to be on The KLF and their recordings.

Good Articles

Later demotions and promotions (if any) have not been recorded. Kingboyk has recorded that as of February 2020 at least 19 KLF articles have been at GA at one time or another, including those which went from GA to FA. As of 26 February 2020, the project has only 4 FAs and 5 GAs remaining. Kingboyk is also pleased to note that WP:BEATLES - which he co-founded - has long since overtaken us (as they should) and as of March 2020 they have an astonishing 14 FAs and 132 GAs - although the FA count cheekily includes All You Need Is Love (the JAMs song) ;)

Help returning articles to their former status or newly promoting to GA or FA would be extremely welcome.
