Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Baseball
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This is a collection of discussions on the deletion of articles related to Baseball. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.
- Adding a new AfD discussion
- Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
- Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
- You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Baseball|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
- There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
- Removing a closed AfD discussion
- Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
- Other types of discussions
- You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Baseball. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.
- Further information
- For further information see Wikipedia's deletion policy and WP:AfD for general information about Articles for Deletion, including a list of article deletions sorted by day of nomination.

Many of the baseball-related deletion discussions center on questions of notability. In this case, the guideline Wikipedia:WikiProject Baseball/Notability (WP:BASE/N) may be helpful.
Baseball
Articles for deletion
Andrew Baldwin (baseball)
- Andrew Baldwin (baseball) (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) – (View AfD | edits since nomination)
- (Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs) · FENS · JSTOR · TWL)
The arguments for the 2011 AfD (Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Andrew Baldwin (baseball)) still hold (doesn't meet WP:NSPORT or WP:GNG), but the target, 14 years on, isn't appropriate as he is no longer a player. Hence, with no suitable merge target, I propose deletion. Klbrain (talk) 09:32, 8 April 2026 (UTC)

- Delete per nominator's rationale. FaviFake (talk) 15:03, 8 April 2026 (UTC)
- Weak keep due to presence of sufficient WP:SIGCOV. The Tacoma Weekly article counts towards this for sure. In addition, we find this feature from The Oregonian provides some sigcov from a prominent secondary source (also found here). Beyond these feature stories, we find sigcov elsewhere. Here is coverage from The Register-Guard about winning a Pac-10 award. This one from The News Tribune goes beyond a normal game summary and provided a little bit about his pitching style. Couple this with the oodles of routine game coverage, I think there's just enough here. Jordano53 15:42, 8 April 2026 (UTC)
- The Oregonlive.com link returns a 404 for me, this is the correct one. Kelob2678 (talk) 07:29, 16 April 2026 (UTC)
- Keep per the references provided by Jordano53. Small amounts of non-trivial SIGCOV are provided in each reference, though I agree none of them are great. Per WP:NBIO,
If the depth of coverage in any given source is not substantial, then multiple independent sources may be combined to demonstrate notability
. Frank Anchor 15:20, 9 April 2026 (UTC) - Weak keep: Coverage presented provides a narrow pass of the WP:GNG, albeit barely. Let'srun (talk) 17:40, 11 April 2026 (UTC)
- Keep per the coverage identified above. Kelob2678 (talk) 07:29, 16 April 2026 (UTC)
Pittsburgh sports lore
- Pittsburgh sports lore (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) – (View AfD | edits since nomination)
- (Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs) · FENS · JSTOR · TWL)
this article is a gigantic, largely unsourced coatrack. none of the sources even mention "sports lore". if there is a useful article here, it's buried behind all the "Announcer reactions". i recommend blowing it all up and starting over. ltbdl (roll) 03:30, 6 April 2026 (UTC)
- Note: This discussion has been included in the deletion sorting lists for the following topics: Sports and Pennsylvania. ltbdl (roll) 03:30, 6 April 2026 (UTC)
- Delete Yikes! This is nearly entirely unsourced and is simply the authors' opinionated puffery of games and events they thought were significant. I see no reason why these should also be lumped into a single article and described as "lore". I'd recommend that you leave a notice at Wikipedia:WikiProject Pittsburgh though in case something belongs in repective teams' articles. Reywas92Talk 04:45, 6 April 2026 (UTC)
- i've left a notice, but it seems to be a bit of a ghost town. ltbdl (squeeze) 08:27, 6 April 2026 (UTC)
- Delete WP:COATRACK as the nominator said. This is just a laundry list of trivia and amusing incidents that would make a good coffee table book to pick up at the Pittsburgh Airport, but not a WP article. I'm not about to check all 68 references but I would be amazed if a single one mentioned "Pittsburgh sports lore". WeirdNAnnoyed (talk) 11:05, 6 April 2026 (UTC)
- Delete: Stuff happened, but most of the sourcing is about the events themselves (or in non-RS), not mentioning a collection of "lore". I could see this being used as a list, but without much sourcing it's OR. Oaktree b (talk) 13:17, 6 April 2026 (UTC)

- Delete. Pure WP:OR. Cbl62 (talk) 18:57, 6 April 2026 (UTC)
- Delete. This is WP:FANCRUFT at its finest, failing WP:COATRACK and WP:OR. Some of the facts could be used in articles on the respective teams, but not as a standalone article. Flibirigit (talk) 20:45, 6 April 2026 (UTC)
- Delete: How this avoided notice for twenty years ... WP:NOTWEBHOST. Ravenswing 22:51, 7 April 2026 (UTC)
- Delete per all above. Content about specific notable events is already included in those respective articles. Frank Anchor 13:11, 8 April 2026 (UTC)
- Delete per everyone above. Pure WP:FANCRUFT. Best, GPL93 (talk) 13:00, 10 April 2026 (UTC)
- Redirect to Sports in Pittsburgh as a sensible relevant target, in case there's anything worth merging later. Left guide (talk) 02:20, 13 April 2026 (UTC)
- Redirect to Sports in Pittsburgh: As noted above this is both original research and fancruft, and should be TNTd even if it weren't. Despite this, there might be something worth merging into a team or league article at a later date, making redirection a valid alternative to deletion. Jack Frost (talk) 04:21, 13 April 2026 (UTC)
- Redirect to Sports in Pittsburgh per above. Kelob2678 (talk) 07:12, 13 April 2026 (UTC)
- Redirect to Sports in Pittsburgh per above. But delete wouldn't be bad either. (This article somehow has survied for more than 20 years being horribly sourced since the beginning.) 🚂ThatTrainGuy1945 Peep peep! 13:48, 13 April 2026 (UTC)
- comment: as the nominator, i am completely fine with redirection. ltbdl (wish) 13:49, 13 April 2026 (UTC)
- Redirect to Sports in Pittsburgh per above. This article seems like a copy-and-paste slop job, violating WP:COATRACK, WP:OR, WP:FANCRUFT, and WP:GNG. There could be things that are worth merging, but this standalone article is already a lost cause. JTZegers (talk) 14:53, 13 April 2026 (UTC)
- Delete. The sourcing is not good so preferently no merge. Geschichte (talk) 16:50, 13 April 2026 (UTC)
- Comment I'd oppose a redirect. Sports in Pittsburgh is chock full of WP:FANCRUFT already. Best, GPL93 (talk) 12:04, 14 April 2026 (UTC)
- Delete as a redirect would not have much value as a search term. Totally FANCRUFT. ~EDDY (talk/contribs)~ 19:24, 16 April 2026 (UTC)
- Comment I am in agreement with GPL93 and Editorofthewiki. I don't see the value in a redirect as it's not a likely search term. Cbl62 (talk) 19:32, 16 April 2026 (UTC)
