Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Bands and musicians
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This is a collection of discussions on the deletion of articles related to Bands and musicians. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.
- Adding a new AfD discussion
- Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
- Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
- You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Bands and musicians|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
- There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
- Removing a closed AfD discussion
- Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
- Other types of discussions
- You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Bands and musicians. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.
- Further information
- For further information see Wikipedia's deletion policy and WP:AfD for general information about Articles for Deletion, including a list of article deletions sorted by day of nomination.

WP:BLP of a musician, not properly referenced as having any strong claim to passing WP:NMUSIC. As written, the article consists of a single sentence stating that he exists, and then delves straight into a discography table asserting that some of his albums attained middling chart positions far, far short of "hit" range -- which would be perfectly fine if the article were properly sourced, but is in no way an automatic notability freebie without adequate referencing. But the sole footnote cited here at all is a chart history book supporting those middle-range chart positions, with not a single citation to any GNG-building content about him.
So I'm willing to withdraw this if somebody with much better access to archived Australian media coverage from the 1970s than I've got can find adequate sourcing to salvage it, but simply existing is not "inherently" notable enough to exempt him from having to pass WP:GNG on stronger sourcing than this. Fails WP:SINGER, sources are short and not in-depth expect for one. If someone can find sources for this ping me and I'll pull the nomination. I did WP:BEFORE but the content mentioned the subject in passing or was promotional.
The article notes that he "received an honorary damehood of the Order of St Michael and St George (DCMG)". This is taken from Angelina Jolie who was mentioned in one of the sources. Also helps that a damehood is for a woman ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. I was unable to find anything for a record getting gold or higher. I was also unable to find anything about songs on charts. - Keep per the significant coverage in multiple independent reliable sources. The subject passes Wikipedia:Notability (people)#Basic criteria, which says:
People are presumed notable if they have received significant coverage in multiple published secondary sources that are reliable, intellectually independent of each other, and independent of the subject.
- If the depth of coverage in any given source is not substantial, then multiple independent sources may be combined to demonstrate notability; trivial coverage of a subject by secondary sources is not usually sufficient to establish notability.

The book notes: "The year was 1925. A young American woman gave birth to a son. This birth was special in that this child was born to medical missionaries in Chungking, China, and before he reached the age of fifty, he was to touch the lives of millions for God. His name was Richard Blanchard. When Richard was less than five years of age, his parents were driven from China in the wake of a mighty Communist onslaught. The young couple and their child were brought to the United States and to the midwestern state of Indiana. As the child grew, he became tremendously interested in music, mainly the trombone. The late and great Homer Rodeheaver, because he was a friend of Richard's parents, paid fifty dollars for a down payment on such a horn, and the boy continued to make payments on it with revenues from a paper route. The years ahead brought a hitch in the Navy for Richard, degrees from Mercer and Emory universities, and then a pastorate in the United Methodist Church. In the years that fol-lowed, he pastored several of the largest Methodist churches in the state of Florida."

- COMMENT Again, if it wasn't for this one song, nothing would ever be written about Blanchard. Nothing. Stories about hymns does not make their songwriter notable. There are dozens upon dozens of books that features "stories about hymns". (Then Sings My Soul, Amazing Grace: 366 Inspiring Hymn Stories, 101 Hymn Stories, 101 More Hymn Stories, The Stories of Hymns: The History Behind 100 of Christianity's Best-Known Hymns, The Complete Book of Hymns: Inspiring Stories about 600 Hymns and Praise Songs, etc) That doesn't warrant WP articles for every songwriter. It makes the song notable at best. These articles say the exact same thing and are associated with Ancestry.com (obituary). Ministers mentioned in a local paper about their service engagement or appearances also do not make them notable at WP. If that were the case, there would be millions of ministers eligible for inclusion. This particular songwriter is associated with one song (which does not have its own article at WP). The song should have an article; and the writer should be re-directed. There just is not enough on the writer himself that is actually notable. There is no coverage for any other independent song or composition; only mentions in obituaries as "also wrote." The above are not notable sources to merit inclusion. They just say the same thing over and over again for one song. "They have a son" is by no way notable. Ministers publish articles in magazines all the time. "Interested in writing as a hobby" is not notable. Find any article that SIG:COV another composition by this songwriter; not "Fill My Cup, Lord". "Noted hymn composer"? Hymn sites [Hymnal.net], [Hymnary.org] only list one hymn (Fill My Cup, Lord) for this "noted hymn composer". Maineartists (talk) 23:02, 23 March 2026 (UTC)

Regarding Wikipedia:Notability#Whether to create standalone pages, the sources are focused on Blanchard's life and career rather than being focused on the song. There is enough content here to support a standalone article about Blanchard. Cunard (talk) 09:57, 24 March 2026 (UTC)

I've had a read of the article talk page discussions. There is a distinction between this band and F211, so this AfD is about Concrete Castles only. I don't believe the current sources prove that the band is notable. This band does not meet any of the criteria listed at WP:BAND. Point 10 could be argued as they've published work to YouTube, but this is self-published at best and doesn't count in my opinion. Having checked the current sources, none provide meaningful WP:SIGCOV. Sites such as "Concert Crap" are actually WP:RSPWORDPRESS and shouldn't be used at all. WP:BROADWAYWORLD also has pretty major reliability issues. Some parts of the article are also unsourced.
Unfortunately, I'm not seeing notability here. 11WB (talk) 15:50, 19 March 2026 (UTC)
- Note: This discussion has been included in the deletion sorting lists for the following topics: Bands and musicians, Music, and United States of America. 11WB (talk) 15:50, 19 March 2026 (UTC)
- I understand the concern about the reliability of the sources. However, the band has proven to be notable under WP:BAND under number 5, having released two albums under both Equal Vision and Velocity. Some clean up of sources and content might be in order, but I believe they are at least proven to qualify for an article. CenacusJones (talk) 16:01, 19 March 2026 (UTC)
- I wouldn't consider either of those as "major" labels. 11WB (talk) 16:04, 19 March 2026 (UTC)
- Just to quote BAND also: '
Note that regardless of what notability criterion is being claimed, the claim must be properly verified by reliable sources independent of the subject's own self-published promotional materials.
' This is not the case in this article. 11WB (talk) 16:07, 19 March 2026 (UTC)- This is fair enough. I still think the case can be made for them to be notable under the record label circumstances. Bigger bands with Wikipedia pages are signed to the same labels, although I suppose the coverage is the crux. I was admittedly stretching on some sources. I think it’s worth mentioning too that this article wasn't just created but was approved by a separate editor and they were deemed sufficiently noteworthy, though I know thats not a be all end all either. I always seek to follow the Wikipedia guidelines and claim good faith at the very least. I can at least verify that I never (knowingly) used sources self published by the band and I don’t think any of the sources can be said to be self published. I always wanted to demonstrate their notability outside of their work as a (separate) cover band, and never intended to use or never did use any material from their self published YouTube endeavors.
- To be honest I’ve always thought this article might be on thin ice. But I really do think they qualify for notability and the article might just need a clean up? CenacusJones (talk) 19:13, 19 March 2026 (UTC)
- I am not convinced unfortunately. Neither album release is sourced. The article cites GoErie and Concert Crap (which is just a WordPress theme), along with BroadwayWorld, which is established by consensus as being unreliable. I think you may have a chance with an article about F211 as the primary subject, with Concrete Castles maybe covered in a paragraph there. Concrete Castles, as it currently stands, is now an inactive band, and has been for some time. So it is unlikely any new coverage will be published now to establish its notability. Certainly no new albums. 11WB (talk) 21:41, 19 March 2026 (UTC)

- Weak delete This came up is USA Today, but it's a reprint from an Erie newspaper. I would think it counts as national coverage, but it's still not quite enough to show notability. I don't see charted singles, major album releases on record labels, use in a TV/movie/theater production that would show broad public appeal/knowledge of the music. Almost, but not quite notable. Oaktree b (talk) 19:51, 19 March 2026 (UTC)
- Local band that's almost had their breakthrough, but not quite. The Vans Warped Tour looked promising, but I don't see much for national exposure after that... I imagine it's like the Goo Goo Dolls that were big in Buffalo, but didn't really get big until "Broadway" was released on Dizzy Up the Girl. Oaktree b (talk) 19:53, 19 March 2026 (UTC)

- Delete - This indeed is a close call. However, read closely and you'll see that most of the article is about their predecessor band First to Eleven (F211), which received some news coverage and may qualify for its own article if anyone wants to take the plunge. Then that article could say that members of F211 later formed Concrete Castles, and leave it at that. As for the latter band, and focus of this discussion, they have some gig announcements and other minor media pieces, but their encyclopedic history is dependent on unreliable sources that reprint the band's own press releases. They got a little media notice but not quite enough to satisfy the notability requirements here. ---DOOMSDAYER520 (TALK|CONTRIBS) 01:43, 20 March 2026 (UTC)

Musician with a series of self-releases under various names, none of which have gotten too far beyond the usual streaming and self-upload services. I can find professional reviews of none of the releases or significant coverage or his career at the higher level. The article has several French sources, but via Google Translate they all appear to be promotional announcements of his releases and brief appearances in lists of similar new musicians in his scene. He has been accused of hideous crimes, which itself has no pro media coverage (no police investigation so far), and the sources on that episode are more promotional statements from other musicians who have broken ties with him. ---DOOMSDAYER520 (TALK|CONTRIBS) 15:36, 19 March 2026 (UTC)

- Look I'll be honest as the one that translated it that I'm not really up for, nor interested in defending this article's inclusion. I challenged myself to translate a few articles and this one came up as a suggestion, as it was blowing up on French Wikipedia for obvious reasons. I considered stopping once I'd gotten a few paragraphs down but felt its better people know than that they don't, in line with WP:CENSOR. I'm an ardent inclusionist, so will advance the point that there's a sufficient number of secondary sources not relevant to the accusations that warrants inclusion under WP:PRESERVE. Ultimately, my vote is for a Procedural Keep. I do agree with removing the albums at the bottom, it seemed odd to include without referencing to start with.
- Regardless of this, I'd ask that others take all points into consideration and figure out the inclusion and cleanup questions themselves. I was already quite uncomfortable doing the initial translation, and would rather not delve into the source material any more than I already have. I apologize, as I'm realizing now I should have drafted it and asked for assistance before publication; but frankly just wanted to be done with it. If my help is really needed, people are welcome to request it, feel free to leave a message at my talk page.
- All the best,

This article covers the same subject as the previously deleted page Jonas Becker (musician), which was soft-deleted in September 2024 due to a lack of notability. Although the article has been recreated under the artist's pseudonym with new references, it still fails to meet the General Notability Guideline (WP:GNG) and the specific criteria for musicians (WP:MUSICBIO). The newly provided sources do not constitute significant, independent coverage in reliable secondary sources. Furthermore, the creator has a declared conflict of interest. A BLP with mostly unrelated references, only 2 and 3 talk about her seriously and I don't think they are reliable sources, they look like puff-y pieces but I could be wrong about russian Internet. As far as I can tell the claim to notability is for performing at the Likee Party Tour 2025 but I don't see that as actually being enough with or without sources. Describing an 11 year-old as a "singer, blogger, actor, dancer, film actress, model and musician" is essentially a list of personal interests or what she would like to do as an aspiring celebrity. She does have some minor coverage as a participant at the concert, but that does not add up to enough significant coverage to bestow notability. Otherwise, the article is clearly a repeat of her own social media introductions and is probably an attempted promotion. . So which segment are you referring to? Kelob2678 (talk) 20:38, 19 March 2026 (UTC)- I cannot answer for @Cmajorftw, however I presume this is a referral instead to criteria #7 where, on a national level, the subject
Has become one of the most prominent representatives of a notable style
which in my view the subject does meet via coverage in at least two reliable sources. ResonantDistortion 09:16, 22 March 2026 (UTC)

- Comment WP:MUSICBIO #1 says to exclude "publications where the musician or ensemble talks about themselves". If that is taken literally, none of the cited sources count towards establishing notability, nor do any of those I've been able to find. If this is kept, it (and the Bengali version) will probably need to be reverted to a revision before the extensive edits by Badshabulbul. --Worldbruce (talk) 14:24, 4 March 2026 (UTC)

- Do not delete. The singer was one of the most popular artists of his time. Between 1986 and 1995, he released 18 solo albums, and all of them were very successful.
- The problem is that during that time there was not much media/newspaper to cover news (few newspaper and monthly magazine are available), and most media outlets did not even have websites. This is one reason there are not many sources available today, but that does not mean he is not notable.
- At that time, cassette tapes were widely sold, and most promotions and news were shared through posters and banners. Walterwpaul (talk) 17:55, 12 March 2026 (UTC)
- Draftify- given the context explained above about offline sources potential, along with my findings online for lack of SIGCOV sources, do see youtube sites about the singer, will consider draftify to give time for searches into offline sources, as well as possibly uploaded to the net via archiving sites.Lorraine Crane (talk) 06:48, 15 March 2026 (UTC)

- Weak keep I am sympathetic to the argument made by User:Walterwpaul and the good work put into the article, I think draftify would be my second choice, but I am leaning towards a keep for now. Iljhgtn (they/them · talk) 03:00, 18 March 2026 (UTC)

- Is the only source for his having won a 2005 Bachsas Award his own website? --Worldbruce (talk) 12:17, 18 March 2026 (UTC)
- Nomination Withdrawn As explained by @Walterwpaul:, due to unavailability of sources online the subject seems less notable, but he was a popular musician of 80s and 90s. The article may require cleanup and hope someone will find more sources online or offline in future. Thanks. Rht bd (talk) 03:11, 22 March 2026 (UTC)

Appears to fail WP:NMG. Very little sustained coverage and the article seems promotional in nature, with off-topic tangents about other related musicians. I removed what appeared to be a fake discography entry and there may be others, or at the very least ones that are virtually impossible to verify (and thus would fail notability rules).
