From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Welcome to the RNA taskforce of WikiProject Molecular Biology.
If you have any questions about articles or are generally seeking advice, you're encouraged to ask at the talkpage of WikiProject Molecular Biology, the centralized point for discussion, thank you.

Scope

This Wikiproject is a daughter project of the Molecular and Cellular Biology Wikiproject and aims to better organize information in articles related to RNA on Wikipedia. The Molecular and Cellular Biology Wikiproject aims to organise some of the vast amount of information that has been and continues to be collected about genomes, proteomes and cell function which is currently stored in obscure databases and journal articles. This daughter project is focusing on doing just that, for the information on RNA including RNA genes and RNA regulatory elements.[1]

If you would like to help, feel free to add yourself to the list of participants, or have a look at How you can help section below. Also of interest is the Molecular and Cellular Biology Portal associated with the parent of this project. You don't need to know anything about biology to help!

Goals

  • Create and perfect articles on RNA biology, with particular focus on making individual articles on individual RNAs and RNA families accessible. The perfect article is complete, but accessible to a secondary school/high school student.

How you can help

Improve articles

  • The List of RNA families page and the List of RNAs pages are portals into lists of articles that are of interest to this project. These are generally stubby in nature and need lots of improvement!
  • Help in making re-direct pages for the abbreviated names, which are listed here. For convenience, a table of the corresponding full article names is found here. Are there other abbreviations that should be considered?
  • Adopt a stub! There are many, many stubby RNA articles that have the potential to be excellent articles. Many of these were imported from the Rfam database annotation and require some basic editing to bring them into line with Wikipedia policies.

There are several RNA categories so far:

Improve the project itself

  • Assist in public relations and outreach by recruiting editors interested in RNA biology to contribute to Wikipedia.

Participants

A list of RNA taskforce members (along with some of their interests) is maintained under the WikiProject Molecular Biology page. To join, simply add yourself at that page and indicate your interests.

Although this taskforce is currently considered inactive, it can always be reactivated if there are interested participants!
