Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/Meetup/371

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Women in Red is running a series of events in 2026 to improve coverage not only of women themselves but also of the works they created. Many inventions, discoveries or products designed and created by women remain undocumented, under-described or entirely absent from Wikipedia. In cases where their creations are on wikipedia it is possible that their contributions are overlooked, as has often been the case across scientific fields.

Welcome!

This edit-a-thon invites new and experienced editors to help address this gap by creating and improving articles about notable scientific works by women. This could include any kinds of inventions, discoveries, creations, patents, materials, methods or scientific theories. You are also encouraged to expand coverage of individual works that currently exist only as stubs or mentions within biographies, especially where a woman's contribution has been under-reported.

What else?

  • The lists of redlinks below provides inspiration for articles to work on.
  • You will also find sections where you can list the articles you created this month and where you can add any images you have uploaded (for example, of freely licensed cover images) to Commons.
  • New contributors may find these essays helpful: This essay on writing about women and their works and Ten Simple Rules for Women in Red.
  • If you share any articles or images on social media, please indicate you have done so next to the article name.

The main goals of the event are:

  • to encourage inexperienced editors and show them how they can contribute to Wikipedia by creating articles about written works created by women
  • to draw the attention of more experienced editors to the need for concerted action in combating the systemic bias against the coverage of women and women's works
  • to promote the new/improved articles and images through social media.
Thank you!
