List of Catholic bishops in Great Britain?

G'day everyone! As there are pages such as List of Catholic bishops in the United States and List of Catholic bishops in Australia, would it be appropriate if I created one for Great Britain? I don't believe there is such a list for Great Britain (if there is, I haven't been able to find it). Just want to double check before creating List of Catholic bishops in Great Britain. Thanks! TheTimeBombII (talk) 09:40, 20 December 2025 (UTC)

@TheTimeBombII: yes, with proper sourcing it absolutely could be done! ~Darth StabroTalk  Contribs 21:26, 21 December 2025 (UTC)
@Darth Stabro: Awesome, I've created the page. Should I add a link for the list page to Template:Catholic bishops and archbishops in England and Wales? That may be beneficial. Furthermore, should a link to the list be added to the see also section of individual British bishop pages? If so, is there any way to speed that up, or would it just have to be done by hand? Cheers! TheTimeBombII (talk) 10:49, 26 December 2025 (UTC)
Should this include Northern Ireland? Secretlondon (talk) 07:44, 23 January 2026 (UTC)
Since the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland have a unified episcopal conference, and the Catholic Bishops of England and Wales have similar, I would lean towards a split list, or at least some acknowledgement of that reality. Scotland also has a separate episcopal conference.Maximilian775 (talk) 13:30, 5 February 2026 (UTC)

Lists to source

Please add reliable sources to each of these two lists, which have been tagged as unreferenced since January 2015, 9 years ago:

Bearian (talk) 14:00, 26 January 2026 (UTC)

@Bearian: Since you've taken point on rectifying these maintenance issues—which is greatly appreciated, by the way—I wanted to ask if you believe those two articles are preferably left in their current state as essentially serving as indices for subjects with existing articles or if they should converted into something akin to List of Catholic cathedrals in the United States, which strives to list each individual (co-)cathedral? Best, ~ Pbritti (talk) 14:04, 26 January 2026 (UTC)
Thank you. Some of the individual churches are as notable as cathedrals in these two countries for their own reasons. For example, the new Archbishop of Vienna has announced a plan to help rural parishes. Also, I just rescued Church of Our Lady of Mercy (Novo Hamburgo). I'm fine with the current indices, but if you want to make them fancy, please do so. Who doesn't like a color-coded map? Bearian (talk) 14:13, 26 January 2026 (UTC)

The Path to Rome at FAC

Hello all! I have recently nominated Hilaire Belloc's fantastic 1902 travelogue The Path to Rome – recounting his pilgrimage to the Vatican – for Featured Article status and would appreciate any input and (hopefully) support there. It should appeal to anyone interested in European literature (especially British) or literature from around the turn of the 19th century. Anyone interested is welcome to stop by. Hope to see some of you there! ThaesOfereode (talk) 21:01, 26 January 2026 (UTC)

July 2026 SSPX Consecrations

While any article about this possibility as things presently stands runs afoul of WP:FUTURE, I think if a candidate or location for the consecrations is announced, this would make the possibility substantive enough to require an article. I'm curious as to the thoughts of others on this matter.
Context: https://www.pillarcatholic.com/p/vatican-doctrine-chief-to-hold-talks Maximilian775 (talk) 13:21, 5 February 2026 (UTC)

I don't think is can be standalone until it happens. Otherwise, just a section of the SSPX main article. ~Darth StabroTalk  Contribs 18:33, 5 February 2026 (UTC)
I would argue that once the location and individuals to be consecrated are announced, you likely have enough to be notable. Especially if an official Vatican statement comes out, then it is clearly notable and you avoid WP:FUTURE by talking about the announcements, which are then past.>> M.P.Schneider,LC (parlemusfeci) 03:14, 12 February 2026 (UTC)
https://econe.fsspx.org/fr/events/sacres-episcopaux-57020 It appears we have a venue and practical logistical plans being made, but no ordinandi announed. Maximilian775 (talk) Maximilian775 (talk) 14:36, 23 March 2026 (UTC)

Request on repeal on nonsense RfC about naming of dioceses

Hello, I would like to request repeal of resolution of RfC on naming of Roman Catholic Dioceses. Dioceses shall be named with Roman Catholic prefix. This massive renaming led to great misleading of readers in plenty of cases. Eastern Orthodox Dioceses are also Dioceses, that were in modern times renamed to Eparchies–Eparchy in conflict with Diocese around the world if identical place. Some expert robotically renamed all dioceses which led to that current naming is even with conflict with this previous RfC Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Catholicism/Archive_2025#RfC_on_dropping_preemptive_disambiguation. Diocese of Plzeň, České Budějovice etc. is also diocese of Plzeň, České Budějovice, Hradec Králové, Brno, of the Czechoslovak Hussite Church, Diocese of Prague is also historical name of Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Prague while there exist also Diocese of Prague in Czechoslovak Hussite Church and also nominal Archdiocese of Prague of the Old Catholic Church that doesnt have article. This is in many cases around the world. Thank you. ThecentreCZ (talk) 04:37, 5 March 2026 (UTC)

I agree it also confuses people in Anglican areas. Secretlondon (talk) 10:34, 4 April 2026 (UTC)
There are several dioceses which have the same name for Catholics and Anglicans. So yes, we need "Roman Catholic" as a prefix in some cases. But there are vast geographical areas where the word "diocese" can only be understood in one way, namely as a Catholic unit. So in those cases, we do not need the preemptive clarification, using "Roman Catholic" in theses cases would just be clutter. -- Melchior2006 (talk) 11:13, 4 April 2026 (UTC)

Re-assessment of "Top" articles

Frankly, there are too many of them, as the ratings are holdovers from the ancient days of different standards. Will be going through the list to "demote" those that aren't actually "Top" (sorry, Berengar of Tours). Nautical Mongoose (talk) 02:37, 6 March 2026 (UTC)

It's done, or at least the first run-through is. Brought it down from 200+ to 67.
I think we can get it down further to ~50 but that would require deeper consideration, like whether articles common to all denominations should be moved down to "High".
Speaking of, I might take a look at the High-importance articles next but that's obviously going to take much longer as there's 600+ articles. I think a lot of them could definitely be bumped down to Mid or Low though just from what I've seen. Nautical Mongoose (talk) 04:33, 10 March 2026 (UTC)
Yes, both tasks certainly need doing, so thanks. Should articles under this or the Christianity projects also be under the "religion" project? I tend to think not. Some, like Samuel Taylor Coleridge should not be in any Xtian project, I think. You are tending to to give the same importance rating for all the branches of Xtianity, but large numbers need only be in one, or have different ratings. Johnbod (talk) 05:01, 10 March 2026 (UTC)
I was a bit hesitant to remove articles from Wikiprojects but I might end up doing that for other articles in future run-throughs. I'll take a look at the Religion project to see what they actually require. Nautical Mongoose (talk) 05:47, 10 March 2026 (UTC)

Project page revamp

I was stewing over my earlier proposal to re-Assess the High-importance articles (still planned!) when I realizing something more urgent: the present Project page kinda sucks.

It's basically like how the old Vatican site was: linear, scroll-like, and thus unsuitable as a general-purpose site. The Wikiproject Christianity page meanwhile is far superior and uses a lot of the auto-magically populating templates that don't require constant upkeep. In the spirit of the new Vatican web site (shiny, new, and more importantly practical) I am going to make some changes to improve the functionality and presentation of the main page. Don't worry: the parchment background is staying. Nautical Mongoose (talk) 21:16, 20 March 2026 (UTC)
