Wikipedia talk:Signature tutorial

I made the code for a signature I like, but it is not working. The code is this:

<span style="border-radius:9em;padding:0 5px;background:#3366cc">[[User:WaddlesJP13|<b style=color:white>Waddles</b>]] [[User talk:WaddlesJP13|<b style=color:white>🗩</b>]] [[Special:Contribs/WaddlesJP13|<b style=color:white>🖉</b>]]</span>

...and it appears as this: Waddles 🗩 🖉. When I try to save it, the message "Invalid raw signature. Check HTML tags." comes up. I really like it, so I would like to know if someone could point out any mistakes in it that I missed, since I checked and everything looked fine to me. i mean this is really late and all but if you're still having trouble, maybe try putting quotes for the colors of your icons? like this:

<b style="color:white">🗩</b>

Are all of the "Real-life examples" in the list on this article page approved for use? I recently copied my own signature from a user named @Orduin: and when I asked about it in the Teahouse, the point was raised that, "...the link to your talkpage is unnecesseraly tiny." Am I, or am I not, allowed to use the signature that I now have put together. I like it a lot! — Moops ^⋠T⋡ 15:57, 8 September 2022 (UTC)

Many of the real life examples are completely illegible, ugly, and incredibly distracting. Please don't thoughtlessly copy any of these styles. –jacobolus (t) 10:09, 25 October 2025 (UTC)

Came here because my signature was not automatically added when I edited a talk page. (Although doing it through this box seems to add it.)

Signatures are never automatic in open prose. You have to type the ~~~~, which it appears you did here. Also note that WP:HD exists for this kind of question, and you'll usually get a faster response there. ―Mandruss ☎ 02:10, 16 July 2024 (UTC)
