Error #67 on jawiki

Thank you very much for your continuous support. In Japanese, there are eight types of punctuation marks commonly used: "。" "、" "," "." ":" ";" "?", and "!". In addition, according to the guideline at ja:Help:脚注#スタイルと用法, it is specified that references should be placed before "、" or "。" in Japanese texts. Therefore, regarding the jawiki case of cwid:67 "Reference after punctuation", could you please consider modifying checkwiki so that it can detect these eight punctuation marks ("。", "、", ",", ".", ":", ";", "?", "!") specifically for jawiki? --Oyyo37 (talk) 08:14, 2 October 2025 (UTC)

@Oyyo37: The 8 punctuation marks have been added to #067 for jawiki. --Bamyers99 (talk) 17:57, 2 October 2025 (UTC)
I've confirmed it. I really appreciate your help.--Oyyo37 (talk) 10:23, 6 October 2025 (UTC)

Checkwiki is down, bug report has been filed

Check is receiving the following error "Could not connect to database: User s51080 already has more than 'max_user_connections' active connections". Restarting the web server did not fix it. This has been reported to Toolforge admins. --Bamyers99 (talk) 01:05, 5 November 2025 (UTC)

Checkwiki is running again. For the daily updated wikis, several hours of recent changes were not scanned. I will try and run enwiki and dewiki dump scans after the November 20 dumps are complete. --Bamyers99 (talk) 13:54, 5 November 2025 (UTC)
It seems to be down again, I don't know if because of the same reason. Benjavalero (talk) 07:50, 16 November 2025 (UTC)

Revisiting #28 "Table without correct end" false positives

The check that was added to catch "table end tag templates that are not on a newline" reports some false positives because some templates have the preceding newline included in the template. ie. {{End}} via this edit and redirects to it such as {{Election box end}}.

I have added a special code to the translation pages to indicate that a template has the preceding newline in it. The code placed after the template name is @@HasNewline@@

Example usage: {{Election box end @@HasNewline@@ in Wikipedia:WikiProject_Check_Wikipedia/Translation search for: error_028_templates_enwiki

Original request: Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Check Wikipedia/Archive 9#S-end without a newline before it

The enwiki translation page has been updated. Other wikis can also use the special code for error 28 on their translation pages. --Bamyers99 (talk) 21:11, 20 November 2025 (UTC)

Wonder if the same can be done for the soccer/football pages considering (from eye test) that most of the errors come from elections and football season pages. Ecourter (talk) 18:54, 23 November 2025 (UTC)
@Ecourter: Thanks for the note. I have added several football templates to the Translation page: {{Efs end}}, {{Extended football squad end}}, {{Fb cap footer}}, {{fb si footer}}, {{Game log end}}. --Bamyers99 (talk) 20:27, 23 November 2025 (UTC)
Thumbs up.
Looks like {{BundleEnd}}, {{CBB Yearly Record Subtotal}}, {{CBB Yearly Record End}}, might have the same problem from the handful of pages I looked through. Ecourter (talk) 01:57, 24 November 2025 (UTC)

Wikipedia:CHECKWIKI/WPC 551 dump false positives

Wikipedia:CHECKWIKI/WPC 551 dump is reporting '' '' as an error, but there is no error there, Linter or otherwise. It's a blank placeholder for italic text to be inserted later. Can that false positive please be removed from the list of conditions that are checked for by that report? Thanks. – Jonesey95 (talk) 00:46, 6 December 2025 (UTC)

This is still happening. How does this get fixed? – Jonesey95 (talk) 15:26, 30 December 2025 (UTC)
That might not be an error, but that is horrible editing practices that shouldn't be allowed either. Best left in the report so editors can clean this mess up. It's also what the description says A line is only composed of non displayed elements (like ) which is exactly this. Gonnym (talk) 15:56, 30 December 2025 (UTC)
One person's "horrible" is another person's "ready for the next person to edit the article with the correct formatting". I do not think that this is an error, or a mess, or horrible editing. It causes no problems. – Jonesey95 (talk) 17:19, 30 December 2025 (UTC)

404 errors

Bamyers99: Been getting 404 Not Found errors with Toolforge for the past few days or so. I can load the errors some of the time, but it feels pretty random. Believe this is the same problem mentioned here. Ecourter (talk) 17:09, 11 December 2025 (UTC)

same here. --Icy2008 (talk) 17:48, 11 December 2025 (UTC)

Errors

Hi there, lately i'm having a lot of problems reaching "check wikipedia" Multiple times i'm shown the message "

-Not found- The URL you have requested, https://checkwiki.toolforge.org/cgi-bin/checkwiki.cgi?project=nlwiki&view=only&id=5, doesn't seem to actually exist.

Is there a problem on my side? or is check Wikipedia the problem? Kind regards Saschaporsche (talk) 20:18, 11 December 2025 (UTC)

The checkwiki toolforge webservice is restarting on its own every few minutes, see above. Ecourter (talk) 20:55, 11 December 2025 (UTC)
But why? --Icy2008 (talk) 13:47, 12 December 2025 (UTC)
Still having problems accessing the page. Any solutions? Saschaporsche (talk) 09:49, 14 December 2025 (UTC)
+1. Nothing has improved. --Icy2008 (talk) 20:46, 16 December 2025 (UTC)

Database maintenance

I will shortly be updating the database to try and improve performance. This may cause disruptions. --Bamyers99 (talk) 12:35, 17 December 2025 (UTC)

Wonderfull ! hope this helps, currently the problem is still persisting. Kind regards Saschaporsche (talk) 13:32, 17 December 2025 (UTC)

The maintenance is done.

The following has been updated:

  • The database Project field was changed from a string project name to a numeric project id. This was an internal change and does not affect the user interface or API.
  • The sort by Notice option has been disabled. This was a performance killer as this field does not have an index.
  • The Done and Set all articles as done! links require JavaScript to be enabled in the browser. This only applies to the user interface, not the API.

These measures were implemented to combat the increase in bot traffic that is accessing all links on a page. This means that bots were accessing the Done links and marking items as done. Some bots ignore the robots.txt file, which denies all bots.

Any problems, leave a note at the end of this section. --Bamyers99 (talk) 21:18, 17 December 2025 (UTC)

Moin Bamyers99, the sort from Notice was always a really good thing, so in german, don't know in others. Is there any possibility to get this enabled again? Regards --Crazy1880 (talk) 05:49, 18 December 2025 (UTC)
@Crazy1880: Notice sorting has been re-enabled. It requires that JavaScript be enabled in the web browser for the checkwiki website. This is to prevent bots from following the links. --Bamyers99 (talk) 13:47, 18 December 2025 (UTC)
Thank you Bamyers99, thats really helpful ;) Regards --Crazy1880 (talk) 18:56, 18 December 2025 (UTC)
Performance got rly rly rly better. Thank you very much! :) --Icy2008 (talk) 12:08, 23 December 2025 (UTC)

Pages cannot be set as done

Since yesterday pages cannot be set to done for the German Wikipedia. It only shows "404 Not Found". Best Thomas Dresler (talk) 08:39, 30 December 2025 (UTC)

@Thomas Dresler: Web browser script blockers (ie. NoScript) must be disabled for checkwiki.toolforge.org. The Done links, etc. use JavaScript to obfuscate the links so that bots can't follow the links. --Bamyers99 (talk) 14:02, 30 December 2025 (UTC)
Script blockers have been disabled. I just saw that it works again, no settings changed. Best Thomas Dresler (talk) 23:20, 30 December 2025 (UTC)

I wonder if there is a way to find broken syntax that is a template that is closed with a link syntax: {{Ping|user]], but in general and not for a specific template. I was fixing lint error at and noticed the headings weren't being colored which tipped me off that something other than reported lint error was broken here. Gonnym (talk) 11:18, 10 March 2026 (UTC)

@Gonnym: Checkwiki only checks the article namespace. In an article it would get detected by both "Template without correct end (43)" and "Square brackets without correct beginning (46)". --Bamyers99 (talk) 13:09, 10 March 2026 (UTC)
