Kentucky gubernatorial election voting data by county
Hello, WikiProject Kentucky. I recently compiled an exhaustive list of Wikipedia pages pertaining to United States gubernatorial elections which need tables detailing general election voting statistics by county. If anyone wants to help out with this task of adding stat tables, I'd gladly welcome the assistance. Here is the Kentucky list, and all 49 other states have their own likewise lists on that page. Thank you. Mungo Kitsch (talk) 09:08, 12 November 2025 (UTC)
Sports in Louisville, Kentucky
For such a high-importance topic, this is poorly sourced, and has been for almost 20 years. Please add sources. Bearian (talk) 16:33, 20 February 2026 (UTC)
- Agreed. Its maintenance tag is into adulthood now. It's the oldest dated tag for WikiProject Louisville and almost the oldest one for this project. I personally have a long list of to-do's but I may eventually get to doing this. If anyone wants to beat me to it, have at it. Stefen 𝕋ower Huddle • Handiwerk 20:31, 20 February 2026 (UTC)
Project updates and fixes (through February 22, 2026)
Here's the latest updates and fixes for WikiProject Kentucky:
- New reports:
- Project leaderboard. This is a list of the top 100 (or so) editors of WikiProject Kentucky's included pages (articles + all other subject pages) in the past 30 days, excluding bots. Use this list to discover other editors working on Kentucky area-related subjects for the sake of collaboration, getting assistance on a subject area matter, inviting to join our project, or just showing some WP:LOVE (including awarding our project's barnstar).
- Note that registered editors can opt out of the list; see the page for instructions.
- Forgotten articles. These are WikiProject Kentucky-included articles which haven't been edited by a human being in over a year. The goal with this list is identify articles needing fresh attention or making sure editors who may want to work on them are maximally aware of their existence.

- Clarified project inclusion in WP Kentucky vs. its subprojects, via changes to the front page (see the "Resources" section, Templates/Project subheadings).
- Rework of "Current project backlogs" and "Resources" (beyond clarifying project inclusion) on the front page.
- Did other minor fixes and cleanups around the project.

City class in the leads of Kentucky city articles
Kentucky has two city classes - home-rule, and first class. The main difference between the two is governance, first class cities must have a mayor-council government, while home-rule class cities have more choices, though often still choose to have a mayor-council government. Beyond this, there are little differences that are made from a city just being classified as first-class or home-rule. It is also important to note that the only first-class city in Kentucky is Louisville, which is disproportionately larger than all of the other cities.
However, for some reason, almost every single article about cities in Kentucky mentions the class of the city in the first sentence of the article. Is it really necessary for city class to be the first thing mentioned about a city, when it has little actual impact? Imagine if every article about cities in America had 'This city is smaller than New York" in the first sentence. My best guess for why this is the case is that city class used to actually be important, as before 2015 there were 6 different city classes, and there were many different laws that were specific to different city classes. Now, however, city class isn't as important, so I believe we should move talking about city class later into these articles. Since this would be a decently large change that would affect a lot of articles, I wanted to talk about it with several other editors. Please provide any input you have, I would like to hear what other people have to say. Map Enjoyer (talk) 17:08, 28 February 2026 (UTC)
- I now realize I wrote this as if I wasn't talking to other people from Kentucky. I originally put this in the village pump because I didn't know we had a wikiproject, then I was directed here. I was lazy and just copied it here with little edits, though this gets the message across still so I guess it works Map Enjoyer (talk) 17:14, 28 February 2026 (UTC)
- As a Kentuckian and long-time contributor, I'm not particularly troubled by this happenstance, as the class of each city is a fact, a fact I don't believe is given that much more weight than it deserves in any city article. But if someone would like to make a specific proposal about a better way to show it, and then do the work, which would be rather enormous, then that would be a way to proceed. I personally may be agreeable to treating this as a side data point (similar to zip codes) for most Kentucky cities that we just have in the infobox in a free-form field, but I don't want to assume everyone would agree with that. I can see where 'class' only merits extended discussion for what it means for the first-class city, Louisville, but that would especially go into Government of Louisville, Kentucky. Stefen 𝕋ower Huddle • Handiwerk 11:01, 1 March 2026 (UTC)
- I agree it's not a very big deal, I just believe that there are better ways to present that information. I think adding a Governance section to these articles and putting the class of the city there would be a better option. As an example, I changed the article on Owensboro by making the lead just say that it is a city and moving the "home rule class" fact down to the government section.
- I also doubt many people, or even any more people are going to join this conversation since you seem to be the only person active in here. I don't think this kind of change could be made by a short conversation between 2 editors, would there be something we could do to get more people to look at this? Map Enjoyer (talk) 16:20, 1 March 2026 (UTC)
- For the articles that have 'Government' sections, I agree this would be straightforward to change as you have done. Otherwise, a 'Government' section probably shouldn't be created unless there is other sourced material to combine with this aspect.
- As for anyone who could assist, there is no magic here. If you think it should be done, do it (see WP:BOLD). It doesn't have to be done immediately (see WP:NOHURRY). A logical place to ask for assistance would be WP:CITIES but I have no idea what the outcome would be there. Wikipedia has a shortage of active editors overall. I'm too busy with other priorities to get to this effort anytime soon, but as an active participant in this WikiProject, I felt an obligation to answer your post and say what you want to do is basically sound. Stefen 𝕋ower Huddle • Handiwerk 19:55, 1 March 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks for your information, I'm glad there's at least someone still interested in our state on Wikipedia. I do have some time to work with, so I'll get started with this on articles with government sections. Now that I look at this there's really not much of a need to have many more people involved, i don't see any way for this to be a bad idea. Unless someone gets concerned and talks with me about it, I'll just go ahead.
- Since we're only looking at articles with government sections, the list gets way shorter, so I could probably get this done in around a week or two, maybe less. Map Enjoyer (talk) 20:48, 1 March 2026 (UTC)
- I have fixed the leads of all of the city articles with government sections, which isn't very many. Since most of the cities don't have government sections, for now I'm just placing the class of the city at the end of the lead until I can go back and add government sections for the ones where there are sources for it. I felt like saying this here since there's nowhere else to. Map Enjoyer (talk) 15:28, 5 March 2026 (UTC)
- Sounds like a good plan to me. And saying it here is useful as documentation of the effort. Cheers! Stefen 𝕋ower Huddle • Handiwerk 20:58, 5 March 2026 (UTC)
Archive.today links are going bye-bye - How to help within this project
In case you haven't found out already, the Wikipedia community has decided to remove or replace Archive.today (and related) archive links used in citations within the Wikipedia. See Wikipedia:archive.today guidance for details. To help with this endeavor, we have two project reports that show where these links are within our project:
- Wikipedia:WikiProject Kentucky/Archive.today

Wikipedia:Destubathon of the Americas
Project members are invited to participate in the Destubathon of the Americas, a contest/editathon which will run from May 1 to May 31. The goal is to destub as many of our 475,000+ stubs for the Americas (from Alaska down to Chile) as possible. A good chance to have fun in expanding many of our old stale stubs and win up to $2680 in Amazon vouchers for expanding stub articles. Sign up in the Contestants/participants section on the contest page if interested. Even if not interested in prizes you are still warmly welcome to participate in it as an editathon! Hopefully we can achieve something significant in the month of May together! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:06, 14 April 2026 (UTC)
