I am bringing this question here as WP:RFCBEFORE suggests using a relevant WikiProject first. I wanted to ask:

Should infoboxes for states with limited recognition indicate their occupying power under their status? (See example 1, example 2.)

Occupied territory is a distinct status under international law and infoboxes serve to provide key facts. I do not believe this is a WP:NPOV issues when the reality of occupation is well sourced (in their respective articles and covered elsewhere), and isn't shied away from in similar articles for Palestine, the Golan Heights, and Russian-occupied Ukraine. Listing the occupying power would help readers understand which state has additional obligations for the territory. Additionally, excluding information that is backed up by reliable, authoritative sources due to a conflicting opinion of lesser weight might be a WP:UNDUE violation.

Additionally, there is an overall lack of uniformity between infoboxes on similar states which should be addressed too (e.g. the Northern Cyprus article uses "polity" rather than "state" for some reason). I propose the formula "State with limited recognition under [occupying power] military occupation, claimed by [state with de jure claim over territory]", possibly with the addition of a note indicating how many states have extended recognition. Hi User:JaxsonR, longstanding consensus is that quasi-states and rebel groups that may control some territory but are typically not regarded as state entities by reliable sources and/or rebel forces that emerged in ongoing civil wars where the territorial situation may change too rapidly should not be listed at List of states with limited recognition. As such, Al-Shabaab / the Islamic Emirate of Somalia would not be considered a state. We did not list ISIS as a state with limited recognition for the same reasons.

The name "Islamic Emirate of Somalia" also suggests that they would be ineligible for similar reasons to why the Taliban / Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan was ultimately never listed as an unrecognized or partially recognized country, as each country in the world still recognizes an "Afghanistan" and the recognition dispute is over which government is regarded as the legitimate one, which is different from a state-like entity emerging and claiming to be a separate country.
