Bruce Campbell (Historiker)

Campbell erwarb 1988 einen PhD-Abschluss in Europäischer Geschichte an der University of Wisconsin in Madison. Er lehrte zuletzt am College of William & Mary (Williamsburg, Virginia, USA). Er wurde dort 2019 zum Professor berufen. Gegenwärtig ist er Professor of German Studies (emeritus) und lebt in Frankreich.

Seine Forschungsschwerpunkte sind die Staatsgewalt, paramilitärische Organisationen (vor allem die NS-"Sturmabteilung"), die deutsche Jugendbewegung der ersten Hälfte des 20. Jahrhunderts sowie nationalistische und Kriegsliteratur. Weitere Forschungsgebiete sind der deutsche Kriminalroman und Radio, bzw. Radiovereine als Freizeitbeschaftigung und Weg zur Technikerschliessung.

Er ist insbesondere mit Publikationen über die nationalsozialistische Sturmabteilung (SA) und andere paramilitärische deutsche Organisationen der Zeit zwischen den beiden Weltkriegen, wie das Freikorps Rossbach und die Schilljugend, hervorgetreten.
