Feliks Gross

Feliks Gross (* 17. Juni 1906 in Krakau; † 9. November 2006 in New York City) war ein polnisch-amerikanischer Soziologe und Hochschullehrer.

Leben und Wirken

Feliks Gross studierte Rechtswissenschaft an der Jagiellonen-Universität in Krakau. Dort legte er 1929 die Magisterprüfung ab und promovierte ein Jahr später (1930). Ein Studienaufenthalt an der University of London führte ihn mit Bronislaw Malinowsky zusammen. Hierdurch entstand sein großes Interesse an den Sozialwissenschaften, insbesondere der Soziologie und Ethnologie. Da Gross einer jüdischen Familie angehörte, konnte er in Polen keine Stelle als Hochschullehrer bekommen. Er arbeitete als Rechtsanwalt auf dem Gebiet des Arbeitsrechts und betätigte sich in der Sozialistischen Partei Polens. Zusammen mit seiner Frau ging er im Jahre 1939 ins Exil in die USA. Er ließ sich in New York City nieder und betätigte sich längere Zeit beim Polish Institute of Arts and Sciences of America. Von 1946 bis 1977 arbeitete er dann als Hochschullehrer am Brooklyn College und der City University of New York, vor allem auf dem Gebiet der Politischen Soziologie. Außerdem nahm er Gastdozenturen an zahlreichen Universitäten in den USA und in Europa wahr.

Feliks Gross veröffentlichte zahlreiche Werke vor allem zur Politischen Soziologie.
