Amy Minwalla is a Pakistani film actress and dancer.[1] She was primarily active in the Urdu and Punjabi film industry during the 1960s and is well-known for her kathak dance.[2]

Amy Minwalla was born into a Parsi family in Karachi, Pakistan, and practices Zoroastrianism.[3][4][5] Amy Minwalla comes from a musical family with tawaif background. She studied art under her parents' guidance from a young age and received professional Kathak dance training.[6][7]

Career

Amy Minwalla made her screen debut in 1955. Her first film was “Sohni” directed by M.J. Rana, which was received well by audiences. She was active in the Pakistani film industry for about 20 years and was invited to perform at important events.[8] Amy Minwalla once performed at the Metropolitan Hotel, where she performed ballet with a group of international dancers, leaving a deep impression on the audience with her outstanding performance.[9]

Personal life

Amy Minwalla was married to Pakistani film director Hassan Tariq, with whom she had a daughter. She is divorced.[10] Her cousin Kanga Asheville is also an actress and dancer.[11]
