History
The beginning of activity of The Cassa di Risparmio di Ravenna was on 1 March 1840: on that day the first deposit was made at a office in the first floor oh the building in Via Baccarini, wher today we can found the Classense Library. The idea of establishing a savings bank originated with a group of public-spirited citizens as early as 1838. In 1839, negotiations began with the Papal Legation of Ravenna to obtain the necessary consents and approvals; consequently, on Decembre 21, 1839, Pope Gregory XVI approved its statutes and regulations. Having quickly achieved a solid capital base, the Cassa was able not only to step up its lending to productive sectors, but also to contribuite a portion of the profits to public charitable works as early as 1847. Since the bank reform due to Legge Amato in 1991,[2] the bank was split into a società per azioni and a non-profit banking foundation "Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Ravenna".
