- Autosomal DNA (all ancestors, best for finding relatives, analyzing genetic admixture)
- Y-chromosome (for males: direct paternal line ancestors, haplogroup/relatives)
- X-chromosome (some maternal ancestors, for females: also some paternal ancestors)
- mitochondrial DNA / mtDNA (direct maternal line ancestors, haplogroup/relatives)
