Costas Andreou (Greek: Κώστας Ανδρέου) is a musician and composer based in Athens, Greece. He processes the sounds of fretless electric bass in real time, creating multi-level soundscapes. He has written and performed the music and done the sound design for theatre performances and other artistic productions. His music has been used in various documentaries, films and television productions.
Costas Andreou is known for a fretless electric bass style that emphasizes warmth and organic, vocal-like tonal qualities. His music is typically characterized by a moody and spacious aesthetic, with a strong focus on tone, atmosphere, and emotional expression. He frequently employs space, sustain, and nuanced phrasing, treating silence and decay as integral components of his sound.
His approach to the instrument allows the bass to function both as a foundational and expressive voice. His playing often features singing lines combined with subtle ambient elements, contributing to a cinematic and scene-setting quality.
His solo concert Live Ambient has been presented at Poli Theatre (Athens) on 10 October 2015, at Art Theatre Karolos Koun (Frinichou 14, Plaka) on 21 April 2016 and at Fournos Theatre (Mavromichali 168, Athens) on 15 December 2017, on 19 and 26 October 2018 and on 7 and 8 January 2019.
His solo concert Ippokratous has been presented on 17 and 24 May 2019, 9 and 16 October 2019 and 11 and 18 November 2022 at Fournos Theatre in Athens.
In 2021 he wrote music for the documentary series Why 21? 12 questions by director Elena Lalopoulou on ERT (Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation).
Since 2021 he presents his production MIF (Musique Indépendante Francophone). In 2022 he started the DJ set Musique francophone au coucher du soleil, as part of the MIF production. In 2023 and 2024 the DJ set was presented, among other venues, at Kir-Yianni wine estate, in Giannakochori, Naoussa.
In 2024 he started presenting the DJ set Czech Jazz, as part of the Hudba cultural production, featuring contemporary Czech music.
He distributes his music exclusively on his own website and store. He has chosen not to have any social media. He prefers a direct contact with the audience, using a newsletter and a Viber channel to offer news and updates directly.
