Early life

Danielle June Marsh, Korean name Mo Ji-hye (Korean: 모지혜),[1] was born on 11 April 2005, in Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia, to an Australian father and a South Korean mother.[2][3][4][5][6] She has an older sister, Olivia Marsh, a singer who made her debut in 2024.[7][8] In 2009, at the age of four, Marsh and her family moved to Paju, South Korea.[9]

Career

2011–2021: Pre-debut activities

In 2011, Marsh made her first television appearance on tvN's Rainbow Kindergarten and SBS's My Heart's Crayon.[10] She went on to appear on Shinhwa Broadcasting and Jesse's Play Kitchen in 2012.[10] In 2012, at the age of seven, Marsh returned to Australia to attend primary school.[9][11]

Marsh returned to South Korea and became a K-pop trainee in 2020.[9]

2022–2023: Debut with NewJeans and acting

On 22 July 2022, Marsh made her debut alongside NewJeans with the release of their debut single, "Attention", which she co-wrote.[12][13] She has since participated in the songwriting of five NewJeans songs.[13] "Attention" topped South Korea's Circle Digital Chart and won Best K-pop Song at the 20th Korean Music Awards.[14][15]

In 2023, Marsh voiced Ariel in the Korean dub of The Little Mermaid (2023).[16] Marsh's acting and singing in the film were praised after the first screening.[17] She recorded several songs for the soundtrack of the film, including the single "Part of Your World", which was released on 17 May 2023, and debuted at number two on Billboard's Hot Trending Songs.[18][19]

2024–present: Contract dispute and departure from ADOR

In May 2024, Marsh hosted the Korea on Stage – New Generation concert, organised by the Cultural Heritage Administration.[20] On 28 November 2024, during disputes between ADOR's former CEO Min Hee-jin and ADOR's parent company Hybe, Marsh and the other members of NewJeans announced their contracts with ADOR were terminated, while ADOR stated the contracts remained "in full effect".[21]

In November 2025, the Seoul Central District Court ruled the contracts between the members and ADOR were valid until 2029.[22] On 29 December, ADOR announced the termination of its exclusive contract with Marsh, stating that it would be difficult for her to return to NewJeans and the label. The label added that it was planning to hold a member of Marsh's family responsible for the legal dispute, alongside Min Hee-jin.[23] On the following day, ADOR sued Marsh, one of her family members, and Min Hee-jin for approximately 43 billion (US$29.8 million) in damages.[24] Marsh, in return, appointed a legal representative.[25]

Other ventures

In January 2023, Burberry announced that Marsh had become one of their global ambassadors.[26] Later, in March, she became a global brand ambassador for Yves Saint Laurent Beauty and appeared in a promotional campaign for their Candy Glaze lipstick.[27] In March 2024, Marsh became a global brand ambassador for Celine.[5][28] In May 2024, she appeared in her first promotional campaign for Celine, developed by Hedi Slimane, the brand's creative director.[29] In December 2024, Marsh became an Omega ambassador.[30]
