Darren Edwards (boxer)

Edwards fought out of the of Cwmavon Hornets Amateur Boxing Club in Port Talbot^[3] and won three consecutive Welsh bantamweight ABA titles from 2000 to 2002.^[4][5]

Edwards represented the Welsh team^[6] at the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester, England,^[7] where he competed in the featherweight division. After defeating Khumiso Ikgopoleng of Botswana^[8] he lost to Ludumo Galada of South Africa.^[9]

Edwards stepped up in weight to featherweight and won two nationals titles at the heavier weight in 2003 and 2005.^[10]

Edwards attended a second Commonwealth Games after being selected for the 2006 Welsh team^[11] at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, Australia,^[12] where he competed in the featherweight division. He won the bronze medal^[13] at the games after defeating Thato Batshegi of Botswana and Eddy Kalai of Malaysia, before losing the semi-final bout to England's Stephen Smith.^[14]

A third games ensued for the 2010 Welsh team at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, India, where he competed in the lightweight division but he suffered an early loss to eventual silver medal winner Josh Taylor from Scotland.^[15]
