Akol Diang Diang Mabuoch Akon is an Australian professional footballer born on 21 May 2009. A left winger and forward, he plays for Sydney FC in the Isuzu UTE A-League Men and represents Australia at under-17 level. Still only 16, he has been described by Sydney FC's Sporting Director Alexander Baumjohann as a "generational talent" and one of the most exciting prospects in Australian football.

Akon made headlines in the 2025–26 A-League season when he produced a hat-trick of assists in the Sydney Derby against Western Sydney Wanderers — his former club — helping Sydney FC win 4–1.

Career

In 2024, he Joined the Western Sydney Wanderers Academy on a youth development agreement, featuring for their NPL side at just 15 years old. The following season, he managed to score 4 goals in 11 NPL NSW appearances.

After a breakout season with the Wanderers, Sydney FC had Akol on their radar and signed the young gem on a three-year professional contract (to June 2028), joining on 1 July 2025. He became the youngest Isuzu UTE A-League player in the club's history.

Akon's first game for Sydney FC came in the Australia Cup — and he marked the occasion with an assist straight away, announcing himself to Sky Blues fans from the very first appearance.

His highlight of his young career came against his cross-city rivals and former club in the Sydney Derby. He was able to provide three assists in a 4–1 win over Western Sydney Wanderers, drawing widespread attention and reports of interest from Premier League clubs, German clubs, and MLS teams. He made history as he went joint tied for the most assists in a single A-League Men's game, registering 3 assists. He also became the youngest player ever to provide 3 assists in a single A-League Men game — aged just 16 years old

International career

Akon represents Australia at youth level and holds dual Australian/South Sudanese citizenship. He has made 6 appearances for the Australia U17 side (the CommBank Joeys) with 3 goals recorded, having first appeared for the national youth setup at age 15 while playing an age group above. He notably scored a hat-trick for the Joeys in a 4–0 win over Saudi Arabia.
