Career
Merricks grew up playing football with her brothers and in grassroots teams. She went on to play for Crystal Palace Women and subsequently coached at summer camps in the United States to develop young players. In August 2013, she joined Gillingham, initially as a player for the reserves, and was later asked to take on a player-coach role. In July 2014, Merricks was appointed as the Under-17s Head Coach and Development Squad Assistant Manager at Millwall Lionesses, which was her first paid coaching position with a team.
In 2015, Merricks joined Brighton & Hove Albion W.F.C. Over an eight-year tenure at Brighton, she coached the under-13s and reserve teams before becoming the women's first-team assistant manager. During her time there, she also served as interim head coach on three occasions, becoming the youngest-serving manager in the Women's Super League. In June 2023, she completed her UEFA Pro Licence. In May 2023, Merricks was appointed head coach of the England women's national under-19 football team. With the team, she helped them secure qualification for the second round of the 2024 UEFA Women's Under-19 Championship.
In April 2024, Merricks was appointed head coach of Birmingham City W.F.C., replacing Darren Carter. She was named the Women's Championship Manager of the Month for February 2025. In the 2024–25 season, her team finished second in the league to London City Lionesses, narrowly missing out on promotion to the Women's Super League.
