Draft:Battle Tower

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Battle Tower is a competitive battling area found in all of the Pokemon games since Pokemon Crystal, including the games made for the Gameboy Advance and the Gameboy DS. The functions of the Battle Tower differ from game to game, but there are several consistencies with the Battle Tower during the series:

- Each challenge involves battling Seven Trainers.

- The player's Pokémon are healed after every battle.

- The player is offered the chance to save between battles. Once the game is restarted the game cannot be turned off again without the player being disqualified.

- The player will win a prize for defeating the Battle Tower challenge.

- Opponents automatically switch Pokémon when fainted, without the chance for the player to switch their own Pokémon.

Battle Tower in Pokémon Crystal

The Battle Tower was first introduced in Pokémon Crystal as an extra area accessed from Route 40, west of Olivine City. Inside, only Pokémon from levels 10-40 are permitted, but after defeating the Elite Four the player use Pokémon from levels 10-100. Registered Pokémon must be at or below the selected level. Only Three Pokémon are permitted. The Opponent's Pokémon will all be at the selected level of the challenge.

When the player attempts the Battle Tower challenge they must battle a total of Seven Trainers. The player is awarded a prize upon completing the challenge. These prizes generally include expensive and rare items that boost Pokémon statistics.

There are several rules in the Battle Tower:

- Items cannot be used in the Battle Tower, however Hold Items are acceptable.

- Each registered Pokémon must be Unique.

- Each of registed Pokémon must hold Unique Items.

- Eggs are an Invalid Pokémon and are therefore forbidden.

- Certain Pokémon have level restrictions: The following is a list of Pokémon that may not enter unless the level selected to battle is 70 and over.

Battle Tower in Pokémon Ruby & Sapphire

The Battle Tower returns in Pokémon Ruby & Sapphire and is located on a very small island. To access the building, the player must first defeat the Elite Four, then recieve the S.S. Tidal Ticket from the protoganist's father. After one journey on the newly completed ship, the option to visit the Battle Tower will appear.

Several prizes are awarded in the Battle Tower. While the prizes from the original tower remain, several new hold items will be awarded upon the 42nd consecutive victory. Upon the 50th consecutive victory, the player will be awarded a ribbon and the Silver Sheild decoration for their Secret Base. Upon the 100th consecutive victory, the player is awarded the Gold Sheild secret base decoration.

Apart from the prizes, the Battle Tower in Ruby & Sapphire is generally the same as the Battle Tower in Pokémon Crystal. However, although there are a few differences, most of the rules are the same:

- Items cannot be used in the Battle Tower, however Hold Items are acceptable.

- Each registered Pokémon must be Unique.

- Each of the registered Pokémon must hold Unique Items.

- If a Pokémon uses Thief to steal the opponent's hold item, the player may not keep it.

- The following Pokémon are forbidden:

Battle Tower in Pokémon Emerald

The Battle Tower is located in the Battle Frontier, accessed after defeating the Elite Four. This is the first occurence in the series in which the Battle Tower has been given dramatic changes to it's system. The Battle Tower has four modes of battle:

- Single Battle: This is the standard mode from the previous games. It is exactly the same as the other games, with the sole addition of the Frontier Brain.

- Double Battle: This is exactly the same as Single Battle mode except the player must choose four Pokémon to participate in double battles. The player cannot challenge the Frontier Brain in this mode.

- Multi Battle: This is the Battle Salon. The player must choose two Pokémon to use for this challenge and then choose a computer controlled partner to fight with in "2 vs 2" battles. The player cannot challenge the Frontier Brain in this mode.

- Link Multi Battle: This is exactly the same as Multi Battle except instead of a computer controlled opponent, the player may partner a real friend using the Gameboy Advance Wireless Adapter. The player cannot challenge the Frontier Brain in this mode.

Apart from modes, there are some other differences to the main structure of the tower:

- A Frontier Brain has been included to this location.
