Plot
Tells the story of a black boy named Ellis Johnson who helps his possibly magical, and optimistic, father, open a cookie shop in Hollywood, California in the 1970s.[4][1][5]
Production
In May 2022, Disney Branded Television announced the series development, with Laurence Fishburne and Helen Sugland, of Cinema Gypsy Productions,[6][7] as executive producers. Jesse Murphy and James Sears Bryant of Jesse James Films, and Shawn Amos will also be executive producers.[2][8][9] Brian Egeston is a co-executive producer and story editor.[4] Disney Television Animation will be producing the series.[2][10]
The animated series is based on the debut semi-autobiographical middle grade novel of Shawn Amos of the same name, which focuses on his own life experience as the son of Wallace "Wally" Amos, Jr..[11][12] It is also set to join other Disney products based on books, like the Superfudge animated feature film and live-action Paola Santiago and the River of Tears series.[13] In October 2022, Blues Blast Magazine noted that the news about the series was "wonderful" and said they hoped it "work[ed]...out."[14] As of August 2026, a specific release date has not yet been announced.
